So has Namco Bandai even said a patch was coming for fixing the matchmaking on PS4? I'd really just like to start grinding online.

But don't they just straight up have a "Tournament Mode" you can toggle on in the menu?
The built in tournament mode isn't applicable to how all tournaments want to run their sets. Like iirc you cannot skip intro and win poses in tournament mode. Which isnt desirable a lot of the time.

LIng's "punish after block" game has always been weak. She's an exotic character who is supposed to keep the opponent guessing. In other words, you should be baiting CH attempts with Art of Phoenix and Rain Dance.

XMTS is also your best friend.
Not good advice, tbqh.

Xiaoyu's punish-after-block game has improved in almost every game she's been in, and in T7 it is probably A-tier compared to the entire cast (not S-tier however).

At -10 and -11, 1,d+2 used to be excellent prior to T7 because of the option of a true 50/50 throw mixup from Rain Dance (her hands reached out the same way for both RDS throws). With the universal throw break nerf, this isn't via le so now the sting gives milder mixups.

At -12, she has a rare knock-down attack in f+1+2. At -13 she has a damaging two hit kick string in b+4,4. At -14 she has a VERY rare, easy executing mini launcher with standing 3. At -15 she has a decently-ranged full launcher in d/f+2~1.

From full crouch at -11 to -15 she has a knock down attack in WS+4, which is the quickest WS knocked down move I can think of. At -16 in full crouch she can hop kick launch, and for blocking lows that stagger she can get a power launch by holding 2 as she rises.

Her block punishment game is not weak.

Also, baiting CHs is not her game. WS+2 and SS+4 are mainly used for CHs, but they are telegraphed because she needs to crouch or sidestep to use them. d/b+4 CH and RDS 1 CH are nice, but you can't build a whole game around them. Xiaoyu's game is to create whiffs to punish and to force stance mixups.

Lastly XMTS hasn't been her friend since Tekken 5, when it recovered on block at -5. It is now -9 on block, so it is rarely used any more. The new flip over properties in a juggle that it has is not good enough vs. good players who will quick rise the oki strats it would otherwise offer.

They said this on the European site today.

Regarding Tekken 7 Online Matching Functionality

We have received inquiries from a number of customers regarding situations in which they appear to have trouble matching with other players in Ranked Match.

We are currently investigating the issue and plan to address the problem through an online update scheduled to modify the game spec and improve matching. Player and opponent character will no longer be displayed when searching for a match in Ranked Match.

More details regarding the update will be posted to the official Tekken site.

We apologize for any inconvenience which this may cause in the meantime.

Harada said maybe and there's no real confirmation.

MarkMan did say they're looking into things though so everyone should voice all complaints here or tweet them. He's always lurking.

I wasn't mashing on sidestep he was clearly at disadvantage when i tried to attempt one.
An example would be his 1122 on block is around -8 i believe, and i would get tagged by another 1122 he was mashing. I know i couldve done something else besides sidestep but that shouldve been evaded regardless.

Sure, i mightve mistimed it or something. However i havnt had any luck with sidesteps so far in this game.

I'm not speaking about just myself, but many players, including professional players as well as the tekken community. There definitely needs to be more talk on the sidestepping front in this thread though. I win more matches when I rely less on sidestepping and more on mix ups now. (which is kinda bleh but oh well, this is better for casual players) Last night I got stomped by a King spamming his super armor move, couldn't sidestep it for shit or hitback after (think we both are at the same frames if I block it). Didn't help it was a laggy mess.

But yeah, sidestep block was a huge thing for professional tekkken players, but I'm getting my assed juggled thinking I'd normally block the move but I dont' anymore.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuLhI7Co8CA video of tekken 6 br sidestepping. I can barely do this in tekken 7.

OK, I'm kinda sorta testing this right now.

So I do something with Paul that's negative (1,2 or whatever) and program the AI to side step/walk towards the screen after blocking the initial thing.

If I do 1,2 or ff2 or whatever, it'll whiff.

If I do df2, it'll launch.

Then, if I do something that's positive on block, AI will eat those moves.

So... this is very different from VF5 sidestep where it allowed you to take a turn even if you blocked something that was positive.

(it is also hard because it implies that I'm gonna know WTF is positive for all these damn characters lol)

EDIT:

I think... we need to discuss SS more since I feel like this is really important lol

SS discussions aside, would any of you guys be interested in matches on PS4.

Please add me if so.HeelPower on PSN.

Barely got any matches since the game launched, would appreciate some matches with good players.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
Sidestep is definitely nerfed compared to TTT2.

It was really bad in T7 vanilla but they buffed it a bit in the FR update (which is what the console version is based on).
I think even TTT2 was a bit off too, I'm a Lei player and amount you actually side has gotten less and less.
A perfectly timed sidestep use to put you on the side of the character and if they had enough forward momentum you could get behind them.
TTT2 had it so you was to the side but slightly facing them and would sometimes require you to move a bit more if you wanted to land a throw.
T7 you slightly to the side but still full on facing them, you lucky if you can dodge using it now and you need to sidestep atleast twice and half to get a side throw in

What I dislike more are non homing moves with uber tracking. I used sidesteps to get behind Eliza yesterday during her string that has a dash punch into a rising uppercut into a spike kick and her last attack spun 180 degrees to hit me.

how much was it changed? I know it was bad but in fr, its still not as good as tt2 or tekken 6 still. Can you answer the first part?

As far as I'm aware the entire additional delay window introduced after initiating a sidestep that was a thing in vanilla was straight up removed again in FR. Which is why discussion on this SS nerf pretty much died after 2015.

Also, getting blown up for SS against a Paul online is like the least surprising thing I've ever heard.

I'm on PC and not actually good :v

That said, finding matches hasn't been impossible on PC, actually... it is slow though due to how they're doing things.

I'd rather you just find something and throw me into the damn match, connection be damned.

(actually, I thought this was the point of the connection preference?)

LOL this TEKKEN story mode putting Akuma in players' hands and pitting them against an outtheassbuffed Heihachi. Fuck this chapter. I guess I need to be a SF player to proceed. Guess I'm in the wrong thread?

Treasure Hunting is addictive. I keep wanting to switch out characters or go to customization but with the items you get, the stage changing after a while and the special battles it's hard to get out. I heavily prefer this over Ghost Mode.

Won my first tournament. Sucks that the payments go down when people leave though.

yep, it sucks when people leave. Especially when it's a double elimination tourny and people leave after their first loss (you have a second chance lol). More players need to realize that sticking around and placing in a tourny will still get you a good amount of money and loot.

THISSSSSSSSSSSSS.

I also won my first couple of tournament matches and it crashed both times. FML.

This is my favorite game this console generation. For some reason it is hitting all my sweet spots. The promise for the future is even sweeter.

I think this is one of the best fighting games ever when it comes to actually hitting your opponent. When a strong hit connects, it feels soooooo good. The hit sparks are so awesome. They put Killer Instinct to shame.

maybe tomorrow it rains
Has anyone used one of those PS3 Neo Geo pads with this? I might break mine out tonight, haven't used it in over a year.

I am watching Aris stream and it's pretty great. He explains a lot if things. After all these years I finally learned how to deal with tackles.
