TEKKEN 7 |OT| How I killed your mother

If you only want it for SP content I'd say no, personally.

There are Arcade and endings... but they are whack.

Now my Sans is truly complete

Hey, as someone who enjoys Tekken purely for the single player stuff, is this game worth picking it or should I wait for it to get cheaper.

I really liked Tekken 4 because each character got an intro, epilogue and ending cut scene which fleshed everyone out a bit - not a huge fan of the numerous comedic endings they did in Tekken 5 and 6

I understand the game has an actual story mode this time, does it come with a classic arcade mode with ending cut scenes as well - I remember something with Tekken 6 like you only got three fights or something and it was trickier to get endings, been a while though.

If you are a longtime fan of the series it's a must have. The SP content isn't on par with Nether Realm Studios but it's the best Tekken has ever offered. Post patch match making and netcode is as smooth as butter.

The main story mode focuses on the Mishimas. As you progress you unlock individual character battles which feature one battle against a rival or tournamnet combatant and you get an ending (which aren't on par with previous releases and has a lot of jokey ones). If you knew my history, you'd know that I'm someone in your boots and I view this as probably the best Tekken has been in a long time. Treasure battle is surprisingly addicting which is a never ending series of fights with special matches and unique circumstances added every now and then (double speed, double damage etc) and after each win, you get items and money.

So am I stupid or are there no character specific arcade modes like in the previous Tekken games in T7?

There's only CPU arcade with not much context and....I dont really care about watching long ass CG cutscenes/dialogue to understand what is going on really...it's what I despise about GGX's "Story Mode" I'd rather be engaged in the plot than just watch a movie.

Edit: question was literally answered in the above post.

That's disappointing...I dont really care about the main plot of the game at all, and especially anything to do with Jin, Kazuya or Heihachi.

There's Character Stories which is one fight with a cutscene ending. The regular arcade is just CPU fights that aren't specific to the character.

Oh, so you played the most serious of the Tekken series. Part 4 is so good in that regard, love that game. Tekken 6 is actually the most robust in terms of single player content because of the customization and the fun beat-em-up mode which functioned as the story mode.

Tekken 7 has a short story mode in the style of the NRS games like MK and Injustice, which is a first for Tekken. But after you're finished with that, there isn't much to do other than Treasure Battle, and long load times.

Knowing the context of the story, it now makes sense as to why arcade mode doesn't produce endings as in the past. Tekken 8 or a Tekken Refresh might be a return to form.

Unfortunately, you need to progress through the main story mode to unlock the character chapters (which are their own thing, not intermingled with the main story in case there's any confusion).

(I'm not sure if revenge matches affect ranking gain, they do at the arcade.)

Oh, neato

Just hit Brawler online....i was wondering if they still used the TTT2 system or not.

This actually seems to aim to incite less rage than usual. Fighting people stronger/weaker than you aren't weighted so much. Pressure is only on you when you're fighting at your actual rank.

Something I didn't know before -- if it interests you, the game includes as unlockables every single ending video from the whole series.

If you are looking to revisit those, you can use them as rewards for single player play (they take money to unlock), which is basically what I'm doing as a single-player only game.

Man, so how do I fight King? I keep getting owned by throws that go on for a long time.

1. Don't let him get you into those throws. They're usually easy to avoid
2. Learn the breaks. The timing is easy, you just keep mashing the correct button. But you gotta learn what breaks what.

The Mishima's have the coolest looking combos. Worked on Kazuya's move list for a bit. Gonna do that some more tomorrow and play online since I'm off work. Gonna be a fun day with E3 as well.

Is there a video that teaches when/how to escape from his throws? I'm still pretty unfamiliar with most chars, let alone their movesets

Anyone having trouble with private lobbies? My friend has a lot of issues keeping connection with me, yet I can play regular matchmaking fine.

Guys I just won an online tournament. This is my greatest ever achievement in Tekken. My heart is fucking racing lmao, I was so close to fucking up and losing.

Will post the video and screens later.

And on Defending throws (this also applies to King I would think) watch this video:

Well if somebody knows how to do all of his multi throws and how to do all of the different options, you're kinda boned and it is a guessing game. I would just look up the major ones like Rolling Death Cradle, Screwdriver and King's Bridge.

God no, there's extremely minimal solo stuff in this Tekken and what's there is almost completely terrible. You get a short cinematic story mode with an awful story where nearly nothing happens. (You could sum up the story in literally two words, and even then you might need to tack a question mark to the end.) The narrator character is shockingly bad, both in writing and acting. Major important characters are entirely absent, the story barely advances from where Tekken 6 left things, and the few 'new' things introduced get no closure or even serious elaboration. Aside from that you get an extremely unsatisfying, short arcade mode with no intros or endings. You get some character specific stories that are literally single fights with cheap, in-engine ending movies tacked on. You get Treasure Battle, which is fun in concept but features such completely inept, robotic AI that it transforms into tedium extremely quickly. Those four options are your only solo content -- there doesn't even seem to be a versus CPU option, and there is no tutorial whatsoever.

Tekken 7 is a lot of fun against other people, but its solo offerings are incredibly weak.

Learn some of the optimal juggles and then try that again..
I mainly do a variation of two combos after a starter.

u/f+4,4 -> d+2 -> har -> 1 -> dash forward -> 444 -> har -> 4. Leads to 62 dmg.

OR

u+3 -> 2,2 -> dash forward -> 444 -> har -> 4. Leads to 61 dmg.

Some other combos that end in a 444 into har but any followup of harrier doesn't connect, like if I do the first combo I posted only replace the u/f+4,4 with a d/b+4. Still leads me in a great position for oki, but those combos do at least 65 dmg.

So I don't THINK I'm doing sub-optimal combos. Rage is off, and it's all wall-less. And I'm doing them one-handed for reasons I shall not share.
Also doing them on DS4 with the left analog stick which is probably why I can do them with one hand.

To be honest, that says more about Katarina's lax execution requirement than my skill.

Hoooo boy, I knew I would enjoy Josie. Been watching Aris with her lately and her style looked rad in motion.

Now in training mode with her and she feels simple enough to use, man I'm happy.

*sigh* Think I'm gonna drop trying to get into this game. Tried learning how to play properly a couple of times now, and it's just way to unintuitive and complicated.

I tried what someone suggested before about using the combo's in a characters move lists, but there's like a handful of combo's listed there compared to the dozens of different single strike moves....

I also won my first 8 man tournament yesterday coming all the way from losers :D. Super fun and tense! I'm enjoying this game a lot, figuring out things and labbing is not tedious at all for me in this game.

I originally wasn't going to buy this game, as I had never owned a tekken before, but glad I did. It seems it was a good decision to refund MVC:I and buy this instead :D (refunded when I heard about the roster and size)

How do you select your region picture on PC? I'm in the ME with a ME steam account and it displays NA as my region in online play.

If you have a SF background (and I guess you do), I've found this video series really useful as a starting point, from a general perspective. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bT3axLJCUOI

Small channel but his stuff is pretty good. I listened to his advice about just picking a few good normals and strings of combos and getting comfortable with those before expanding my list of go-to moves. Definitely don't try to learn every combo or button right away.

Trying to learn your characters entire movelist is always a mistake.

As a beginner from SF as well, I have yet to look through Kazuya's entire movelist once tbh. Just find their 10 or so best moves and stick with those.

The biggest thing for newcomers IMO, especially those used to 2D fighters, is to get the movement down. Learn how to create/close space and create angles for yourself. If not you will very quickly find yourself stuck against a wall online. Then from there learn basic combos, nothing too crazy, just some 3/4/5 hit moves that you can pump out on a regular basis when there is an opening. Then evolve from there.

I still need to evolve, but whatever, I'm having a good time.

It's been set to Dubai for the longest time too.

I think the region select was when you first started up the game prior to accepting the terms and privacy policy.

I selected Japan the first time I booted the game, my download server is set to Japan, I live in Japan, but my picture is set to NA. I think that's because my account is Mexican, though.

Dang, Lee and Kazumi are fun. How can I possibly be having a "too many characters" crisis when I'm still not good with anyone? Lol.

I set ME on that thing as well. Really love the PC Port though. Finding a lot of local players as well and the netcode and input lag is noticably better on PC. It's really worth double dipping on PC if you can run it.

Can't really juggle and punish with Devil Jin. My EWGF has like a 40% success rate and even when I do, I freeze half the time. In actual combat, I'm too scared to try it out of fear of whiffing and doing the wrong move and getting punished.

This is what happens when you play 20 years of Tekken abusing the AI with extremely simplistic stuff and decide now is the time you want to actually git gud.

Ran some mostly successful matches this morning. I am using Kazumi. I got sonned by Dragonuv and Xiaoyu players earlier. They were beastly.

I may try Xiaoyu, myself.
She ain't no Zafina, tho.

do you really need ewgf for punishing? I mean, max one sure, but when i was trying him out it seems like his normal punishes do a great deal even without electrics

Stagnating in green ranks.

I hope I can see my way out of this soon.

Sounds like you need efficient patterns that work without much effort to advance through these ranks....

Still haven't figure out one.
