Are there any videos/pictures of how the seating looks with 5 people sitting in the car? Would like to get a feel for how the claim of 5 people sitting in the car looks like.

Fellow pre orderers if you looking for a little confirmation, I checked my Visa and no charge yet but I did notice my current available is down 1000 as they have put a hold on that 1000 even though its not processed yet. So I'm in :)

When did you put your reservation in though? I did mine basically when online opened around 10:30 PM EDT and still don't have anything. Though I know they're saying it could take up to 24 hours, I'm mildly panicking that I screwed up my email address somehow.

Charge was on my credit card though, so at least I know that much went through. :)

I preordered at a store at 11:00 MST and still don't have an email. I also can't sign into my account on the site because it is borked. There is a charge on my card though. I'm not too concerned at this point. I know their systems have been hammered.

Yeah, I don't get this argument. It's like refusing to get a car because you don't have a gas pump installed in your garage. Personally, I'd love one. But I live in NYC and, realistically, the cost of parking alone gives me the chills.

(Not opposed to taking the deposit amount + some and maybe tossing it at their stock, though.)

I haven't really been following this stuff too closely but if there's a 2 year wait are you putting down a deposit for an as of yet unknown 2017-2018 model?

I'd be happy if other manufacturers start making EVs that don't make my eyes want to vomit.

It takes at the very least 3 years to develop a car (if you start on an existing platform and don't make major changes), so no there won't be other EVs in 2018 in reaction to the model 3.
There will be a bunch in reaction to the model S though. It'll be interesting to see how the EV battle ends in 2018; most of the other OEMs have stuck to their usual practice and not shown what they already have planed and under development for 2018...

so with all the deposits that's about 200 million extra in their warchest?

I'd be surprised if they have a warchest of any kind. Which is probably one of the reason for the payable pre-order 2 years in advance.

Yes, they reserve the right to not put it in a separate fund from their regular finances (so I imagine a very last resort safety blanket)

They have 1.2 billion dollars in reserve, and lost 700 million last year. So the next two years will really make or break them.

200 million dollars in just reservation money isn't bad!

The Model 3 isn't expected to be manufactured until the end of 2017. Most people expect a delay pushing it to 2018. So the 2 year wait is really 2 years until they actually build and sell these things.

Yeah, it'll just be one big thing when it does fail. People kinda forget that ICE cars just gradually fall apart as they go.

I mean, our van just cross the 278000 mark on the odometer.. but the transmission is a replacement (and a rebuilt at that), the alternator was replaced, the tires had to be replaced, a couple years ago we had to replace all the wheel bearings..

Tires and wheel bearings are wear items and will need to be replaced on EVs as well. There are lots of components that will need to be replaced just like ICE cars but there are fewer moving parts.

The ~200 mile range, ~$30k EV has been a pretty standard benchmark for a while now. It looks like there could possibly be 4-5 models by 2018-2020-ish time frame, which is really exciting.

Think they have something around a billion, but are burning through it quickly right now. Probably going to need some additional cash before the 3 starts rolling off the line, but if the market's willing to value them at $30 billion they can get it.

Been waiting for that. This would certainly have to be my Mon-Fri car with such small luggage space, which is totally fine. But it might be a little squeeze for golf bags and cricket equipment on Saturday and Sunday!

It has a front AND rear trunk, and (supposedly) the most storage space of anything in it's class. Musk said you could fit a freaking 7ft surfboard inside it.

Tesla doesn't do yearly updates in the traditional sense. The only difference between say a 2014 Model S and 2015 Model S is the year they were manufactured in.

Maybe not traditional in that they don't have a single overhaul per certain year, but they do incremental upgrades all the time. Early year model Ss can't do autopilot for instance. They added new hardware as it came.

Any news on Canadian availability with Canadian pricing? Will it be a straight USD to CAD conversion with regards to pricing?

Canadians will likely be a bit later. I think the X deliveries were staggered by 6 months or so. The price will depend on the currency exchange at the time, plus and additional duties, registration and tax. There's speculation that the Model 3 will be exempt from duties because the entire car will be made in the US once the Gigafactory is up and running. I'm hoping for ~2% over the straight exchange

Good discussion on the X pricing: http://electrek.co/2016/03/09/tesla-model-x-canadian-prices/

I may have missed it, but was there any speculation over Musk's tweet about Part 2 of the Model 3 reveal being "super next level"? What is he referring to here?

Hopefully autonomous driving related. I imagine there will also be some pretty wild interior features if this thing starts being able to drive itself, ie, heads up display.

It is interesting how much of a genius Elon Musk is, however his speaking skills are far from being good.

I like how he speaks. He really really believes in the shit he says. Very little is marketing bluster, it's almost all giddy excitement.

Thats an awfully small opening at the rear.....at thought for sure that it would be a hatch type setup considering how small the truck lid looked but I guess not.

I dont doubt that you could fit a surf board in there but nothing much thicker...

Yeah I posted that quote pages ago, lol. It's a ripper. Musk also spoke about the aggressive supercharger network expansion he has planned, which may alleviate a bunch of concerned also brought up in here.

I assumed he meant with a seat folded down or with the surfboard not lying down. That rear boot doesn't look anywhere near big enough for a cricket bag or a golf bag and buggy, but it's hardly the best video to draw conclusions from.

Speculating is half the fun!

Yeah, I guess the way the glass roof goes all the way back they couldn't do a hatch, but yeah, I was assuming it would be like the Model S.

Ah gotcha. Yeah I would expect the surfboard thing would be with the rear and possibly front passenger seat folded down.

The more you watch him, the more you'll like his style. He obviously knows his shit, doesn't bullshit, and can and will gets down into the finest details of any given part of his products.

Looks very similar in size and shape to the trunk on my FR-S(actually a bit wider because the tails don't cut into the trunk space).

Granted use case for a mid-size sedan is different than a 2 door sports car, but I've crammed quite a lot of stuff in the back of my car without any trouble.
