Th Witcher 4 Announced | The Game Awards 2024

The beginning says rendered on UE5. Probably on a 6090 but still. But I agree on the possible bullshots. Of course, I don't think the Cyberpunk cinematic was said to be in engine.
It’s all bullshit. Ue5 is used to make movies. None of this is how the game will look.

Trailer was honestly pretty rubbish. She is acting completely out of character that we saw in Witcher 3. The end was your typical Witcher, but there is no need to get angry at the townsfolk, just take the coin and go.

That’s the dumbest excuse I’ve ever read. You’re overplaying your forced diversity hand. The transition to Ciri was obviously coming. You’re just being a whiny bitch.
I was hoping they wouldn't go with Ciri.

1. She's insanely overpowered.
2. She can't drink Witcher concoctions, she does so in this trailer but that is obvious lore breaking.
3. Witcher games are full of romance options. I don't want to see Ciri banging after spending 100 hours role playing as her adopted father.

They've also managed to make her uglier in this trailer. Can't put my finger on it but her nose is huge for starters.

It's in keeping with modern female characters who have to be constantly angry, making cringeworthy faces and scolding white adult men.

Playing Ciri isn't a problem per se, making her a yammering Granny Witcher who, again, has lost her powers, is angry, wants revenge, and so on. The guideline received at CD Projekt by their DEI.

CGI trailer ? Ciri main character ?

Ho YEAH ! I miss CGI trailer and when I see that I can't stop thinking again "Gameplay trailer are boring and CGI trailer are far superior"

It's not exactly lore breaking. There is no rule that women can't be witchers, just that women have never succeeded in all trials. The likely explanation here will be the Elder Blood or some formula alteration with Lambert/Keira or something.

I don't even complain that much about "woke" stuff, but man it gets tiring how the female character are always consistently uglier.

Also it doesn't even make sense lore-wise for Ciri to be out there fighting like Geralt and drinking potions.

That's just making stuff up though. The Ciri Witcher ending is intriguing because she wouldn't be an ordinary witcher, she would use her powers instead of signs and concoctions. You cannot use these without passing the trial of the grasses, this is well-established lore. They just wanted an easy reason to allow them to be used.

It's an early red flag unfortunately. Long way to go, this could be a Raiden situation where we end up playing as a different character entirely. I just don't see how playing as Ciri with her Elder Blood powers that make everything trivial would be fun.

So excited and yet I agree this was CDPRs weakest trailer yet.

Geralt CGI trailer difference was he that cut the "monsters" in half while Ciri is only understanding this in time.

I understand its an older Ciri but how did her nose got bigger and bone structure changed as well?
She got DEI fied.
The idea of playing with the Ciri from TW3 was enticing but this trailer...no thank you.

The fact that she is so much older made me think that a different MC would come around the corner at any point. Well I guess we shall see, still looks good to me.

I have no desire to play as Ciri, I didn't like her sections in TW3. Has nothing to do with being woke or anything, she was in the last game I just didn't care for her.

Calls it the Witcher 4. You play as a fake(?) Witcher. Probably will pull some nonsense that Elder Blood lets you use Witcher Mutagens now. Ciri got slapped with the uggo stick or ages like normal human since again if she was a Witcher she would have aged really slow like Geralt, Vesemir.

Upon watching the full trailer though you see at the end that she has Witcher eyes and she doesn't use any Source magic at all. Just the weak Witcher magic. I'm disappointed they went with girlboss Ciri but intrigued by how they retconned Witcher lore.

What I like about the Witcher games is you're playing a character in complete command of his profession and with total knowledge about the world. He always knows something about every situation he's in or monster he faces. I love seeing the world through the eyes of a protagonist like that, world weary yet still totally badass at the same time. It just feels right to have a character like that guide you through a dark fantasy world. Ciri feels too much like an artificial "chosen one" type character who is just awesome in everything just because - it's much less interesting.

Also it's going to take sex and romance out of the game unless you want to bed a bunch of dudes. Or I guess they will make her a lesbian? I don't think replacing Geralt with Ciri is a good idea at all.

First of all, we’re just sick of established franchises with male leads replaced by female leads. From Star Wars to LOTR, to Marvel to Ghostbusters, at this point I’m just done with it. If you want a female lead, do a new IP, like Horizon or some such, stop trying to fuck what is already established.
As for aging, isn’t it part of the lore that Witcher’s age much slower than normal people? Isn’t Geralt over 100 years old and look in his prime?
fair point

i do agree , there is a trend of changing male to female leads but im tired of complaining , im just not gonna buy it and thats it , actions are more effective than words

It's lore breaking in the fact that women have a 100% mortality rate when they undergo the Trial of Grasses. Elder Blood or new Alchemical formula is likely.

Did you finish Witcher 3? I have to ask, as the ending I got told me in no uncertain terms that Ciri would be the main character in any subsequent Witcher game.

She literally was established. Nine years ago.

ciris great, but the way games have been the last few years, i cant help but have the suspicion that they were "advised" to make her the protagonist and make certain changes to her character and appearance. anyway it is what it is no point arguing about it

My problem is that all the series staples hinge on the protagonist being a witcher. Potions, decoctions, mutagens, seeing in the dark, enhanced physical abilities, etc.

Ciri has her own powers, but they aren’t those of a Witcher, so this still wouldn’t make sense. I still wonder what potion she drank in the trailer because witcher potions are highly toxic in no small part due to their base almost always being a strong alcohol that is so concentrated that it’s dangerous to humans. How Ciri can drink those without the biological mutations to neutralize the toxins is a mystery.
Based on the article on IGN, it looks like they just decided to pull "well after Witcher 3 Ciri underwent through trial of grasses and is a full witcher now". If you will look closely on that trailer she also uses Quen and has witcher eyes. I dunno man. All of this feels kinda cheap to me

Just woke up here in the UK to see that they’ve revealed the Witcher 4!!!

Let’s fucking gooooooo!!!!!

Not the biggest Ciri fan. I liked her gameplay parts in w3 the least. And I don't like her new design one bit. In addition, the trailer somehow remained in Uncanny vally the whole time. This is probably the weakest Witcher trailer so far.

Thanks for the article. Yeah sounds lame. Since she read a a bunch of books and already knows how to fight monsters already in her childhood a lot of this feels disingenuous. Start of her Witcher career my ass. Might still pick it up if the combat is improved from Witcher 3. I always preferred Witcher 1 combat for some reason in it's weird way.

That includes the mobile market, which makes up everyone. Something people don't realize is that major companies are trying to attract more female players to increase their demographics and create an entirely new audience. Not saying I agree with it, just stating the obvious why you're seeing so many female leads in games nowadays.

But being totally realistic here, I would say out of the 50 million people who purchased the Witcher 3, vast majority are male. I don't think anyone would disagree there.

Was the trailer ingame or prerendered?
Both, kinda. UE5 but made specifically for the trailer. No confirmation if it was all ingame assets.

I am somewhat disappointed, Empress ending is superior. Would much prefer a game where we play Geralt, visiting Ciri in Nilfgaard helping her with some conspiracy against her rule, for example.

Cool, that's what I want to play as, a realistic looking older woman.

Jesus Christ what the fuck did they do to her

Get it on PC. It's not like it will look like this on console anyway. Nexusmods will make her fap material and you'll be happy, I'm sure.

Well, it's definitely very obvious that needed to take out a lot of loans to cover the losses from Cyberpunk. Switching to the female lead was a capital idea!

Huge fan of the series, maybe my fav RPG series after Mass Effect. But I'm out, not interested in playing as Ciri. Boinking medieval women was part of the fun in being a witcher, what you gonna do now, get fucked by men, is there even romance? its just weird.

Found the first incel in this thread. Go fuck real women instead of trying to play out your dreams inside a video game, my guy.

No problem with Ciri, after years and years of me reading the books and playing the games with Geralt, I'm pretty happy to play a full game with Ciri.

Besides she was pretty cool to play with in W3.

With Geralt the hype would be real. This however is as exciting as playing mary jane only in a spiderman game (it cannot be as bad as MJ sections in recent spiderman games though, can it?).
