The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth |OT| Pixel Heart Mother

Kid Ska

I Was There! Official L Receiver 2/12/2016
Accidentally played Hard mode with Eden. Shit damage and tears, Guppy's Collar and Converter. Made it to the Womb I boss, but it was a god damned chore.

I read that but still don't understand.
I guess all it really does is hurt me to activate invincibility frames, and only after the time runs out?
Seems of incredibly limited and situational use if so

Well there are some items which only trigger if you get hurt. I'm sure someone will find a use for it at some point.

Well, this was the most fucked up ability yet...
Ran into one of those rooms with the circles. Ran into the only circle available and was transformed into a version of Isaac with a floating fetus attached to his head. You control a ball to attack while moving separately. And the fetus attacks sometimes too. Confusing as fuck to play. Got all the way up to mother but too much shit going on in the room to control all that.

erm what is the purpose of cain? I thought he was supposed to have better luck or something but every time I've used him I've got shit pills, little drops and paltry items in treasure rooms..

actually does anyone have a good run down on what each character is good for?

also has anyone played as Eden yet? you earn tokens for them how exactly?

You get tokens for Eden each time you beat the womb.

Presumably so people don't just restart over and over until they get a really lucky combination because of her random stats.

Got the "lost data" bug a bit before the patch went live today.

Sigh... lost all the characters I managed to unlock up to this point.

Oh well. Back to the grind!

Cain seems way worse than he did in vanilla. Shame, because he was one of my favorite characters.

Just beat Mom's heart and again I really have to reiterate my profound confusion at the art style they went with for the endings. Not only are they poorly drawn, but they don't go with any of the existing art style that the rest of the game is done in.

Cain starts with lucky foot. In the original isaac the lucky foot negated all negative pill effects. It got nerfed, lucky foot only increases your luck doesn't negate bad bills. PHD is the only thing that does that now.

Yeah, lucky foot having the positives of PHD really was OP. Now Cain as a character just has a higher chance of getting items from piles of poop, I think a better chance of a devil room appearing, and better odds of winning games of chance. Basically, if your runs have a lot of casinos and stuff in them, Cain is a great character. Otherwise, eh.

This is so good. Managed to get to boss rush with a great build and beat it. So much fun. I was accidentally playing in hard for ages which while still fun was too much for me right now. I found myself with no resources a lot. Switched back to normal and having a blast. Playing on Vita I'd say it's super smooth most of the time but you really notice when something causes frame drops. Until the sync patch drops I'll stil to vita though. Don't want to lose anything trying to switch to PS4

I was wondering, anyone get the combo "monstro's lunge + brimstone" ? I'm curious to know the effect!

In a run i had monstro lunge + splash tears (don't remember the item name) + a lot of tears Up, and it was pretty op!

How the hell are you supposed to complete the Cat Got Your Tongue challenge?

i actually did this today, beat it first try and i suck.

use guppy's hairball to swing and hit enemies.

spam your spacebar item, i was able to get 48 hour energies and i saved it for mom so i had a bunch of flies.

i picked up bob's brain which was useful as a backup as well, and many bomb drops. perhaps the brimstone familiar will drop as well.

with flying you can hide behind a rock and hit enemies with your hairball.

hope that helps, with a bit of luck it wasnt that bad.

I still don't really get it... any explosive enemy will almost always do damage to you if the Guppy's Head flies don't get to it. I guess I'll just hope for a Bob's Brain or some other item that indirectly damages.

Edit: I just got a speed upgrade. These seem essential to winning, because I can actually get some distance with these hairballs now.

I agree. The shot of the chest doesn't even look like its drawn in the correct perspective. They somehow hired an artist/animator who couldn't draw a box in the correct perspective. That one shot upsets me every time I beat Mom's Heart.

I'm sad the Technology beams don't work like original isaac. They used to grow on the amount of damage, they'd get absurdly stupid big.

So is this game fat easier than vanilla BoI and expansion BoI? I played it a few times and didn't make it past the 2nd floor.

First try in this landed me on floor 4.

Also, are there only 343 items?

From the few times I played it, on Normal it's a bit easier depending on the luck you get scoring power-ups during that run compared to OG Isaac. I still haven't beaten the game on Hard though.

And according to the trailer, there are 450+ items...unless someone can correct me on this.

I'm pretty sure the intent (and best I can tell, reality) is easier at the start, harder by the end. And you can just throw the game on Hard at any time if you actually WANT it harder.

Okay, thanks. I was wondering because there are only 343 slots on the collection page.

@Sir Tap Tap, do you mean each floor is harder or each play? If each play, what makes it harder?

It is just people here, veterans and new, are beating the game frequently, it seems. I remember old threads for the PC one where wins were few are far between, for many. Many taking around 100+ attempts just to beat the game.

getting to the first major point is easier...
getting past the second one is a bit harder.

Well a lot of people saying "beat it" are only meaning the first or second main boss. As for the veterans, how isaac works was cracked wide open in the original and a lot of that knowledge carries over. Pretty much classic BOI rule of "Don't take red heart damage to guarantee devil deals" still works to beat the game.

Agree with you. It seems completely different from the rest of the game

*sigh* The patch didn't fix the issue I have with Rebirth locking up my computer, and what's worse, I confirmed it doesn't just happen during Challenges.

Loving the game but it's not loving me, that's for sure.

Weird and awesome glitch I just got:

Monstro's lung in my first item room. Obviously Monstro's lung has a long charge time and I kept thinking I'm gonna get screwed over by that. I take a balls of steel pill on the next floor and suddenly I have an instant charge time. As soon as I hold it it's completely ready. So I take Brimstone in the devil room and the instant charge rate transfers to that too! Then of course I get triple shot in the item room and now I've got an instant firing triple shot brimstone.

Feels good man.

Edit: Noticed I'm doing a lot less damage than I should with a triple brimstone. But the instant fire rate still makes it worth it. What an odd glitch.

Actually, Rebirth introduces
the donation machine in the shops, which allow you to bank some pennies on one run and withdraw it (with bombs) on subsequent runs.

Understanding that retaining items between runs really isn't necessary and you usually get all the tools you need to beat the game during a single run by maximising your effectiveness on every floor is a large part of making the game "click".
Wait, you can withdraw the coins you donate? How?

I have to say the main thing I don't like about this game is the fact they don't explain jack shit to you.

man azazel runs are fun. didnt get an option for devil though it was just mums heart and done. shame because i had some power up that would one shot kill a boss  i think it was the spider thing that 'keeps things inside' or something. basically it would triple the charge time but would 90% wreck a boss in one hit and my army of spiders and flies would do the rest. was so ridiculous OP and loads of fun

coins are held over to next game, bomb the machine to receive 4-5 at a time next run. cool feature

By bombing the donation machine. Not knowing what items do at first is part of the challenge of the game, but I guess I can see why people wouldn't like it.

I managed to get a Brimstone + Tammy's Head combo in two consecutive runs.

Hoo boy, is that shit overpowered. I managed to beat the boss rush with it, it is so OP.

Got this as well! Throw on the fact that i had an item that made me shoot three lasers and this little spider sack thing that would spawn blue(giant spiders cause of another item) on hits of the lasers and yeah. Things went down in seconds.

Please tell me there isn't anything special for beating Sheol without taking damage. I just had the Brimstone + Tammy combo, got to satan, and he did that stupid wavy beam out of both hands thing to hit me(was the only damage I took, was saving the head for p2 when both legs were on the ground).

Brimstone + homing shots = hilarity

Do you unlock more things for beating boss rush more than once? Also in the computer savy challenge that pink homing lazer from raiden, is that what unlock for winning? Tech .5 I think it was called.

For each character, ya. Not sure if it unlocks anything, but there's a notepad on the character selection screen that shows whether you've completed rush/mom/heart/chest/darkroom for the selected character.

Just had a run with the ludovico technique + the parasite + shielded tears + lump of coal, it was absolutely hilarious. Mom's heart couldn't even get any shots off because the shielded tears were splitting so fast and it ended up dying in roughly 4 seconds. It was a pity that I couldn't get any further!

Holy shit,
got an angel room after beating the HEART (not It Lives) and got taken to the Cathedral. Didn't know you could get there early even if you haven't unlocked the polaroid or gotten It Lives yet. I was already underpowered for the Heart but was able to complete the entire Cathedral with only 5 red hearts and soul hearts I picked up along the way. How I got through? The fucking D10. Was able to reroll every non mini boss to basically caves/depths enemies. It was awesome. Beat the Isaac boss fight somehow and he seems mostly unchanged other than the fact that he's got a really annoying new attack involving the light beams.

Fuck, I wish I did it with Isaac and not Eden. Could have got dat
D6
. At least I think that's how you unlock it.

After getting Spelunker Boy and Dark Boy in the same run, I gotta say that Azazel is one of the best characters, possibly competing with Isaac. Isaac has the best growth options, but Azazel starts with an excellent attack and flight, which are both great for health management (good play helps make up for his range issues). He's definitely the most entertaining character to play for me.

Yeah I did a run with him and got spelunker and dark boy and beat the boss rush all in one run thanks to his brimstone and the item that makes your attack into a controllable circle. Absolutely destroyed everything within two seconds of them appearing, barely saw half the bosses.
