The E3 '08 Sony Prediction and Discussion Thread

Kudos JStevenson and BryanI That new R2 trailer is amazing, I musta watched it like 6 times already. Please tell me it's going up on PSN tomorrow.

You know what, at first I was horrified that I would have to study the 360 and PS3 versions endlessly before deciding which version to get. Now that I managed to read back in this, and the other topics that FF13 has taken over, I'm completely cool with it. Unless I've horribly misinterpreted what's been posted on this forum, it's being finished on the PS3 before they port to the 360 and do the localization. In that case it's the PS3 version for me. Now RE5 is another story. Oh the anguish that one will cause, lmao. I suppose this is a good problem to have?

On another note, a friend of mine went to focus test a game today and it ended up being KZ2 (so yeah he got paid to play it). He played the same level that the press got to play awhile back (the grey one). He said it was too easy, and that the npcs were dumb. That the game looked amazing. I asked him if it felt like COD4, since they both seem to be going for that war zone feel. He said that, "it felt like a fucking warzone" and it "looked fuckin awesome." In other words he didn't think COD4 felt like a war zone and that KZ2 did. So I guess that's good. He still said he'd have to rent it before buying it since the AI and NPCS did not impress him much. So yeah, no new info, but another first hand impression never hurts. Hope we see more of it tomorrow.

*sigh* Now that's not coming. All I ask is for more RPGs announcement. Not the ones we've heard before but ones that we haven't heard and actually coming son.

Can't they pull a Siren: New Translation on these RPGs? Like all of a sudden they announce "Oh, btw, we have Legend of Dragoon 2 as well".

No? X(

True

How about make Valkyria Chronicles a franchise?

Get sega to sign a contract to do VC2 and VC3, while it is not Final Fantasy-level, it would be assuring to know that Sony has at least one quality RPG franchise that will be there for a while.

Sorry, had to do it.

I am sorry, I don't know anyone in their right mind who was stupid enough to believe it.

If it was in development and it was a PS3 exclusive Sony would be shouting it from the rooftops, instead of waiting until now when they just got their balls kicked by SquareEnix.
I guess its all about whether Sony knew that announcement was coming. If they did, they packed in a surprise to tryand match it with. If they didn't, its should still be a great show but dont expect a super secret (unless this MAG stuff I hear is true).
I'd settle for WKS finished, winter 08/09!!!!!

Too bad they wont do a "Sega"

Announce that WKC is finished and that it would be released next week, completely throwing everyone off guard.

:lol I would be extremely happy if that happened. Only for karma reasons.

do you show this much hate for the 360 during your working hours in the store? on another note don't worry the PS3 will be just fine once some more RPGs are anounced.

I'm with you there. If it is what is said, gotg for me hands down.

WKS is confirmed for Japan this fiscal year.
I REALLY hope with the long development time they have been localizing in parallel. I still can't believe that was slated to be a launch game.

WKS was announced at TGS 06. Never destined to be a launch game.

Hopefully so, I want a worldwide simultaneous release.

Make it happen sony.

I really hope so. If they can get WKS out here this year, even by February, I would be happy.

I thought it was talked about before that. I remember the developer saying Sony wanted it for launch but it would have been immensely short. Ah, well, still been awhile.

If Final Fantasy XIII is going to be released on the Playstation 3 first and then X360 development begin on it AFTER release, then this will be interesting. Sales-wise it will still allow Sony to gain the majority of the possible sales. What the announcement serves is a pivotal turning point between Sony-Squeenix relations as well as the distribution of game products development. For Microsoft to secure the main franchise of FF is in itself a superb achievement that marks long-lasting changes in the future and continues to erodes Sony's stable of perceived flagship products (GTA, RE, FF, MGS).

Either ways, if I get to play it on my PS3 first I am pretty happy that X360 owners will get to enjoy the game along with me. However, I hope Sony knows what the hell it's doing.

ok before I'm going to bed, my predictions are.

Playable:
Ratchet: Quest for Booty
LBP
Resistance 2
MotorStorm 2
Infamous?
Killzone 2? if there is surprise another level (3rd one)

I suspect they have not much room for E3's demo boost area. 2 systems.

Video:
Some WKS info? TGS is too late (maybe Playstation Premier should be soon)
Heavy Rain video? (save it for GC?)
God of War
Jaffe's new games? (is it 2 games?)

What are you talking about?

The game is PS3 exclusive in Japan.

After that the game is being worked on for the 360 along with the translation. Then it is simultaneously released in the states for the 360 and the PS3. There is no wait period to play the game because 360 owners in the states will get it the same day as PS3 owners.

Frankly, I don't get it because Sony should have secured an timed exclusivity deal like what MS did with Eternal Sonata, The last remnant and Tales of Vespria.

Horrified. Is that the word for this?

some people import though. so ps3 owners in NA/Europe could play the game before 360 owners still.

Yes, I know about the exclusivity in Japan.

However, I also read in one of the posts here that it will be released on the PS3 first for the USA. Is that not true?

Also note that when Wada was on stage he never alluded to a simultaneous release, and merely said that Final Fantasy XIII was "being planned for Xbox 360".

EDIT: I see it now http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=327102

12:58 - Someone asked if FF XIII means that other Final Fantasy and Square Enix games will come to the 360.

12:59 - The answer to that is... (double translated, sorry for the delay)

1:00 - For right now Square Enix says they are full with FF XIII and are focusing on that and haven't thought about other titles.

1:00 - How many discs will it be? TBD.

1:01 - They are "ready to start" developing FF XIII. So first they will complete the PS3 version in Japan, then start a localization for the US and Europe while they start development on the 360 version.

1:03 - The PS3 and the 360 versions will be released simultaneously in the US and Europe, but not Japan. The 360 version won't be released in Japan.

1:04 - I'm pretty hungry, I skipped free lunch to come to this and I'm pretty sure this small 75 person room can hear my stomach rumble.

1:05 - They said they will try to time the release date for US and Europe at the same time, and that they will "expedite" the process of localizing from Japan.

I almost hope that they do a timed US exclusive.

FFXIII's PS3 Europe and US version might be held back for xbox release like DMC4. That's the hurting part. And if that happens, I'll agree, "I'm a sad panda".

Also, what is MAG?

I think I'm taking off work tomorrow afternoon. Anybody want to join me for a 6-way chat on the PS3 while the conference is going on?

Especially his job, because it is easy to interject your personal bias into the conversation.
