Ive seen that happen to Will'o'wisps a few times, i shoot 'em with an arrow with some explosive magic on and when they die their 'corpse' (the glow dust) goes into some kind of vortex and it just swirls around, went on for ages.
Ohh yeah I've seen that happen before. There's this mod that adds some experimental spells that let you throw people around and stuff like that. I was playing around with it for fun, mannaged to make a guard do that crazy vortex thing and then fly up into the air. Waited for ages but he diddn't come down. :lol

Personally, I'm not a big fan of the Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul mod*, but if that's your thing, go for it. There are also simple mods that make vendor NPCs sell all levels of equipment at all levels. Sorry I can't be more specific, but browse the Oblivion gameplay mods section of www.tessource.net and find the vendor mods I'm talking about. I saw a couple different ones, and I personally haven't gotten them (I like finding things, plus the one thing I'd really want to buy is glass armor, and the mods that add colored glass armor make it available in shops).

This what I ended up doing. I downloaded and installed the black market mod. Bought and elven bow and THEN, not even a couple hours of gameplay later I find 3 elven bows in loot (in a DB quest). Go figure.

Just finished the main quest, I am going to finish off the thieves guild and dark brotherhood quests with my character and start a new character for the arena and mage guild quests.

I loved the new armor I got for joining the dark brotherhood, its not as good as my custom sigal stone made glass armor set but it looks so cool!

This is the thread that just keeps on going and going... :)

I started, and nearly finished, the Fighter's Guild Questline over the weekend. I'm done with all the side quests for the guild and now I've moved on to the final one where you investigate the
Blackwood Company.
With any luck, I'll finish it up tonight and then I'll have the Mage and Fighter's Guild complete, as well as the Arena. I'm part way into the thieves guild as well.

Fighter's Guild Quests were only so-so for me. That ended up being so much alike with the "Go here, clear out this, come back for reward and advanement." The hardest parts were the times you had to escort and NPC and keep them alive. Bastards kept running into combat against some tough mo-fo's. :lol

The poison apples kick ass.
I killed that Kajiit in the Dark Brotherhood with one. It took me like 3 saves to get it right because the bastard would find ANY food or drink other than the apple--even in cupboard or on top of one. I had to clean that mothefucker out of any bear/ale/wine/food before he'd take the apple. Worked great afterwards. I had a big smile on my face after that one

The quests where an NPC followed me were okay, but the ones where I had to follow them...ugh. Never do that again, Bethesda. It took forever to get anywhere.

The last quest of the fighter's guild is by far the most fun, so you'll enjoy that.

Yeah, the ones where you follow the NPC's do take forever. I like it much better when they say "I'll meet you there!" :)

Good to hear that the last one is the best. I sure hope so. At this point, I like the Mage Guild Better than the Fighter's Guild for Quests, but the four or five Thieves Guild ones are better than both. I'm saving the Dark Brotherhood for last.

I never really enjoyed the mage's guild quests all that much, though they were better on the whole than the fighter's guild. The thieve's guild and Dark Brotherhood will maybe be the most fun you have in the whole game.

Okay, so, the new download. You're basically paying $2 to buy a house in the game. It is a very cool house, but the only "quest" associated with it is paying for all of the furnishings. However, it does score you a place to enchant items, make spells, and summon Atranochs. Also, there is an alchemy bench that boosts your skill by 15 when standing near it. The vault has at least a dozen chests, so you can have a chest for prettymuch every type of item you want to horde. As an added bonus, you have teleport pads to take you to every mage's guild.

While the Tower has some nice features to it, such as the ability to teleport to all the Mage Guilds, and from what I hear, a very nice view from the top, it's still not an add-on I'd pay $2 for.

I like the Wizard's Tower. Fans of Morrowind should like it too, since it's by far the most like that game in terms of external architecture, and it's very useful for mages.

It's basically like you OWN an arcane university and a giant house. Very cool.

Now I got to ask, anyone else having problems with the offical horse armor add-on? I bought it, downloaded it fine, entered the serial number I got from the e-mail confirmation they sent... then, nothing!

I tried re-installing, but the InstallShield freezes. Searched their forums and found out this is a known bug, but I really think it installed fine the first time... but I just don't have any indication as to where to BUY the stupid horse armor.

I'm sure somebody on GAF knows...

Sorry to quote myself, but does anyone know anything about horse armor?

Can anyone tell me where the Blade Master is for training? I found him in an Inn somewhere, but couldn't train as I had already trained 5 times that level. I figured I'd come back to train with him once I had the opportunity, but now I can't find that Inn on the map anywhere. I still have Blade Training listed in my completed quests, but I can't use the completed quests to highlight a spot on the map. Just give me the basic location for where he's at, and I'll find him. :) Thanks!

Right-click the installer EXE and choose "Run as" and select Administrator. Enter the admin password (I think it defaults to empty) and it should work.

Alternately, reboot into Safe Mode w/ Networking Support, log in as Administrator (not your profile; there'll be an icon for "Administrator") and run the installer.

As a last ditch, call customer service and activate by phone.

Once it's installed, you'll immediately get a quest to visit an Orc at the Imperial Stables as soon as you load your game. You get 1 free horse armor, and he'll sell you new armor for any legally owned horse for a reasonable price.

If you select that quest from the completed quest list, does it let you view the quest history? I'm pretty sure one of the steps in that quest names the inn he's staying at.

In my mind's eye I wanna say he's south of the Imperial City on the way towards Lleyawin. But I'm not at home to check. The inn will be one of the icons on the map by itself (wanna say chalice icon?).

Hope that helps. :p

Yeah, it says the name of the Inn in the completed quests, but when I was scanning the map last night looking for it, I couldn't find it again. I'll search for it in the area you suggested when I get home. Thanks for the tip. :)

I'm convinced that everything having to do with horses is broken to the point of being worthless.

Rant list:

1) Encountering any enemies on horseback is a nightmare, especially animals that chase you. I had a pack of a half-dozen wolves and a troll on my butt for 2 miles and I didn't dare dismount because they'd oblitorate my horse. Not fun.

2) The framerate and draw issues are multiplied by 10x when horse riding. I actually got out and walked for a while just to remind myself that the game was actually pretty.

3) While being chased along a path, I got to a bridge. I was too tall to go accross the bridge on the horse. My head got stuck in the rope that crosses the top of the bridge opening, and I got killed by the pack of wolves and trolls that was chasing me (for over a half mile) because I couldn't dismount. With all those guys chasing me, the above mentioned graphical issues were even worse, eventually turning into a slideshow before the bridge incident.

4) My horses have either disappeared or been taken from me. The first wasn't waiting for me when I got out of a cave, where I left it. It's gone. The second one is weird. I bought a stallion, and used it for about a half hour. I got to a town, and got the message that he was outside the stable, as usual. I head out to pick him up after shopping, and my horse is standing right there, all saddled up and ready to go. But the icon is red. The description is that he's my horse, but I can't ride him. I take him anyways, and get immidiately busted for stealing my horse. I reload and then fast-travel to another town, hoping to fix the glitch. The horse did not come with me. Now he's gone permenantly. So that's $1,500 down the tubes on two horses in one day. I'm not buying any more.

I had intended to play the game without doing any fast-traveling. I was going for a realistic approach to the game, walking as much as possible. I decided to pick up the pace, now 30 hours into the game, and riding a horse is fast enough. (I stronly object to the fast-travel feature.) But between the lousy visuals when riding, the borked combat (getting chased like mad for miles on end) and my horses' disappearing acts, I'm done with them for the rest of the game. I'll fast-travel later in the game, when I'm running out of quests. For now I'll just keep wandering from place to place on foot.

Yeah, my last three levels I pumped up my Speed. I'll do that every level for a few to ease the pain. Part of me thinks fast-travel was added at the last minute because the horse riding was so messed up.

There's a simple solution for all this, but Speevy beat me to it. I have Shadowmere and I hardly use him (he's a badass in combat though, in your situation he'd of owned all those wolves, but the troll would have finished him off).

Do the monsters ever get more interesting? I've run into the stock imps, wolves, rats, crabs, various people (mages, thieves, etc.), skeletons, zombies. Only once did something scare the hell out of me and it was that
giant lizard thing while clearing out the town after closing the first Oblivion gate.
I'm hoping there is a lot more where that came from.

The ones in bold. Isn't the Daedroth like a GIANT lizard/mini dragon thingy? I think that's what I ran into. I was hoping for giant spiders. Ah well.

Do blunt weapons like maces and hammers do more damage to skeletons than bladed weapons? Or is this D&D I'm thinking of?:lol

might've been a daedroth, might've been a clannfear -- unless you start the main quest at a really high level, you'll see clannfears before you see daedroths. clannfears look like velociraptors with triceratops heads.

Oh yeah - ran into those guys too.

Hate'em.

Anyways, thanks.

Does mixing potions ever yield you anything exciting? Everything I've made is pretty tame or useless to me. If there's a payoff at higher levels I'll keep it up.

My cousin went throught the first Oblivion gate without any problem at level 1, I'm at level 13 and had to make all the tower in oblivion running because any clannfear + another enemy can beat me to death in seconds, fucking auto-leveling!

I had to make the defense of Anvil with the difficult level below normal, it was impossible in normal, five clannfears are too much for me, I really don't understand what I made wrong with my character :(

Alchemy is pretty much how I win every battle. Poisons and healing potions are a life saver. Fortification stuff is cool. Basically whatever magic you like.

It's especially cool to drink a potion that takes several seconds to resolve, because you can keep casting or getting hit while you heal.

Would you guys agree: hardest non-boss mob in the game: those damn ogres in the Lifting the Vale quest. Takes LOTS of shit to take those down (their names escape me). They're basically Ogre x3.

Oh yeah, ogres are mean. I'm lucky my character is so fast, because those things hit you like a hammer and always stun.

I have to summon a zombie to help me out at nearly ever battle. (Took on the 2nd gate at level 9.) Half the time it was just to be a shield, for when I saw those guys ahead. They'd start running at me and run smack into my zombie, and I'd cast and hammer them from behind. I'd have been toast any other way.

Ok, I read about this trick and thought I would pass on the Knowledge...this is pertaining to "Soul Trapping"...

So, during the Mages Guild Quest you run into a guy named Mannimarco also known as the
King of Worms. You get an item from him called the "Staff of Worms" which should have some type of reanimation ability. This essentially brings a monster back to life (after you've killed it) for like 30 seconds (I believe).

The significance of this Staff is that your able to bring back a monster whos soul you've "soul trapped". By doing this, you can reanimate the monster (By casiting it with the "Staff of Worms"), cast soul trap on it (be it through a spell or "Umbra") and takes its soul again. Keep doing this over and over again until you fill up your soul gems. This comes in handy if your facing a monster that supplies you with a Grand Soul and you've got alot of Soul Gems in your possesion.

I haven't tried it myself (been meaning too) but I thought some people would like to know.

Ok i dont have time to read through all of these pages so I dunno if it was asked yet but:

On the Ultimate Heist for the theives guild, after I fell down the chimney to escape, my notebook said something like "I wonder if this was what the boots of springhell jack were for?", So i equipped them as I was falling and then it said The Boots of Springhell Jack have been removed. Is this supposed to happen or is it a bug? Thanks

Yes, you're supposed to lose them. They were only supposed to help you survive the fall (you were also supposed to have them on before you dropped :lol).

Eh, I didn't have too much of a problem with them. The trick is to take 'em on one at a time because if they gang up on you, your ass is grass.

My vote goes for Will o' the wisp; zero to 0wned in 30 seconds.
