I am really high level(I like to grind:) ) and although I haven't finished the main quest,( I like to do it in small chunks), I am starting to get bored, so I'm mostly closing gates, and tring to make the most AWESOME Health combo potions and the MOST deadly Posions. One new thing I like to do in caves and Ruins, is I find a pretty Elf Bandit, switch to fists and BEAT her until her clothing gives way piece by piece(its like a VIOLENT stripshow) although I gotta heal her every so often of I will kill her, and what fun would that be?:)

P.S. Sometimes when I wan't to get my Freak on I will do it with a "Cat" or "Lizard" chick( I did rescue that BITCH from that town, so she OWES me bigtime)

P.S.S. I just noticed that because I am Arch-Mage of the guild, Pretty Young recruits will follow me, can I "Do stuff" to them or will they kick me out of the guild?

I'm pretty sure you're just joking around, or at least I hope you are. But that's pretty twisted stuff. Even for GAF standards.

Just wondering, KFJ - what would it take for you to drop for some Oblivion DLC, aside from a full expansion? Different kind of content, lower price, etc?

I want something that offers more than an hour or two of extended gameplay on a quest or offers more than a glorified house with just some convience items added to it. And I'd pay more than the 2 bucks that these quests are getting for it too. For instance, if they offered a new questline with 10-15 quests, that had a fleshed out story that added to the game, I'd buy. If it were along the lines of another guild questline or something like the Collector's Questline, I'd be in for sure, and I'd pay like $10-$12 for it. Something more along the lines of a mini-expansion, rather than these short quests that they nickle and dime you over.

Oh, and JCBossman, you scare me.

I had a crazy dream last night where I somehow joined the dark brotherhood, but it wasn't videogame like, like real-life. They showed me an introduction video showing me famous people who were in the Brotherhood like Charlton Heston and ****ing Winston Churchhill. I later on escaped, but then realized they would send someone to kill me... then the dream kinda lost track of that and I ended up at a car dealership.

I love my dreams :lol

Soooo... Hackdirt quest...

I went to find that girl, and the moment I get there this dude is all up in my face telling me to leave every 5 seconds, and he follows me EVERYWHERE so I'm like "Hey bitch, how about YOU leave or I'll kill you" and so I decided to kill him. This chick decided she wanted a piece too, and then like 20 other guys with clubs, with a little help from Shadowmere and a Storm Atronach for fun I killed them all.

Eventually I find the girl underground in some cave and those two people who didn't attack me are STILL lying about it, so I decide they're evil and need to die as well. I didn't kill the nice guy who warned me, but everyone else was dead so I leave to take the girl home.

A couple weeks later, I come back randomly and the nice guy is still there all alone and says "We don't take kindly to strangers around here, you better leave before somebody gets hurt" like he did before and I'm like "uhhh, bud, who's 'we'? Why are you still here?" Funny stuff.
[/spoiler]

When I did the Hackdirt quest...

I snuck into the town found the hidden doors and rescued the girl, took her back to her mom and completed the quest without killing anyone. Then, I went back, and killed everyone in that po-dunk little village. Vengence is mine.

I'm doing the Thieves Guild quest, "Ahdarji's Heirloom." I need to meet Hlidara Mothril to learn the Countesses schedule. The beggars tell me she's supposed to eat dinner at the castle hall at 8:00 every night. Problem is, my quest marker is located in Chorral, not Layowiin, in one of the barracks of the castle for some ungodly reason. I've waited until dinner time in 24 hour blocks for nearly two months straight, and she's not showing up and the map marker does not move. I tried going into the barracks the marker indicates, and when I get in, it tells me to go right back out.

What really sucks is I did this quest on my last character (I stopped the Thieve's Guild right after) and the game won't let you just go straight to the ring. I went snuck in and checked her jewelery box while she was sleeping and there's just some normal jewelery there, not the ring I'm supposed to get. It sucks that I have to jump through these hoops for it to work, and one of the hoops seems to be broken.

Anyone know what to do?

My marker got stuck just outside of Bravil on the road. I kept going there and talking to the handmaiden getting the rundown on where her sick racist boss lady spent her days but the marker would never move and the Countess never showed up back in Leyawiin. In fact I started to think that something bad (yet deserved) had happened to the Countess because everytime I reloaded to find Mothril she'd be hanging out on the road with the Countess' bodyguard and I would come in just as the bodyguard was fighting off a black bear or troll (different each reload). I finally gave up, but because I just need to finish the Thieves Guild quests to gain all 1000 achievement points I ended up starting the game over with a new character and this time I was able to do that quest with no problems. I found Mothril and the Countess in the chapel, waited around until after they left and snuck into the castle waited until like 1am, took the ring and got out with no problems.

The game is a bargin for all the entertainment, it offers, I just hope they offer Bloodmoon and Tribunial sized expansion packs, for high level players. Also I miss LEVITATE so much, it is fantastic to fly up and chuck down arrows and fireballs on the unsuspecting and makes hills"No Problem" I also would like to see a GIBS/ Decapitation DLC as well as a way play as a seriously EVIL dude, and take out the Emperor and take the throne... and extortion, and "horse bys"
TIP: Don't be a sucker and "BUY" your meat in a town, just get your speed up, then you can chase down a whole assotment of delisous wildlife, for the freshest meat.....This message was bought to you By PETA(People Enjoy Tasty Animals)

You need GTA:Oblivion. Especially when you read this and your previous post.

If this is a questline-ruining bug then I am *done* with this game. I just put 25 hours into prepping my character just for this questline. I did nothing wrong. I'm not really picky about little bugs, but when your game has these massive, game-halting bugs in it it's just flagrantly unacceptable. I'll give it another try later today and if it's still bugged, I'm done. We're talking selling-the-game pissed here.

You probably could have gotten her unstuck by just clearing the area of hostiles and escorting the countess manually (just stand around and eventually the party should leave).

Resting doesn't always trigger the AI properly for the scheduling.

Other places where I've seen her include on the road between the towns, and in the cathederal in Leyllwin. You may want to check those areas out. Also, give it a try to see if you can find the ring in her jewlery box even if you don't have the schedule. I'm not sure I talked to her before my second run through. Just have to wait until after 11 PM, and more likely 12:00 AM before she's in bed. It's worth a shot anyway.

But yeah, if it's bugged, than I can't blame you for being upset. This is the mission that was bugged for me when I was first playing through it too. In my case, I found the ring, but there were two of them in the jewlery case. I took both, but when you do that, Adarjii doesn't recognize that you have any rings. So I couldn't pass the quest. Eventually, while doing a Dark Brotherhood quest, I got a message saying that I killed someone while on a Thieves Guild quest, this after killing lots of people with the bugged quest, and was kicked out of the Thieves Guild. When I went to pay my Blood Price to get back in, I was told that I was over due for for promotion, and so they promoted me on the spot and I was able to continue on with the Guild questline and eventually beat it.

For me, she pops up unexpected a lot. If you just wait and try another quest, she'll show up eventually.

To finish that quest, I waited until everyone was asleep and snuck in, did the deed, much like it was assumed you'd do. I could think of a bunch of alternatives, but the "expected" way worked out fine for me.

As much as I'm sure you're either imitating MAF or just being a typical junior troll, your trick wouldn't work completely. You may be able to remove armor, but I'm almost 100% sure clothing won't come off; just armor.

Also, there are no pretty characters, so your post is a lie.

Yep, I tried that. I must have helped that guy kill that bear/troll ten times and then waited for the Countess to show up, she never did. And when I say waited I mean actually waited as in standing around day in, day out (well actually jumping around like a monkey to increase my acrobatics) waiting for the Countess to show up. I also ran from that stopping place on the road all the way to Bravil all the way back and then all the way to Chorrol and still no Countess. I even did a practice run where I went all the way through the castle ended up in the Countess' bedroom but the only person there was the sleeping Count and the only ring in the jewelry box was a plain gold ring and the scroll about the Elder Scrolls, so I knew that there was a problem and she needed to be in the castle before the quest would work. I tried the old save then turn off the 360, turn back on and clear cache manuever that I had to do to get the Ayleid doors to open during my bugged Fighters' Guild quest and that didn't work so I said forget it time for a new character. The reason I figured she must have died somewhere on the way home, was right before I did the big start over I looked around on the web for some help and found out that the Countess can in fact die if she is outside of the castle (a little detail that comes in handy now that I'm done with her quest since I plan on tracking her to Chorrol in the future and slaughtering her for crimes against humanity).

What's really annoying is that I only need to talk with her to learn the the Countess' schedule. But I already know her schedule, and tried to steal the ring. But there were only a few amulets and other random stuff in her jewelry box. So she only takes off the ring and puts in her jewelry box after someone TELLS you she does that, which is just bad quest design. Some quests let you go out of order if you skip non-essential information. (And at this piont it's clear that you need to steal the ring back, so I'd consider learning her schedule, as opposed to watching her and striking when the time is right, optional.)

For example, in the Lone Watchman quest I stumbled upon the ghost walking around the woods at night before I ever talked to anyone about him. The quest just updated to that point and now I have the marker for his ship. When I went to town later, having not done the quest yet, I talked to someone about him and the quest notes updated in my journal. I didn't have to do it, but since I did the notes were added anyways. But it wasn't as if he didn't exist until you talked to her.

I'm going to try waiting again until the 15th of the month, then just playing the game without any waiting or fast-traveling for a few days. Hopefully my waiting is what bugged it and she'll show up in due time from Chorral.

I agree that they really had some issues getting certain quests to sync up properly depending on the dozen or so things that can happen before the quest even begins. For example, that Fighter's Guild quest
where clearing out a cave before getting the quest will prevent you from beating the Guild
. I'd chalk it up to having such a huge world with so many variables, but you'd think someone would figure out a lot of people are having problems with this quest in particular.

In the exclusive first review in OXM a few weeks before the game came out, it actually mentioned this quest and the difficulty in having her actually put the ring in the chest; sometimes she doesn't.

In my second play through of the Thieves Guild Quests I couldn't get her to go to bed. She'd go into the room, and someone else was in the bed, and every time she'd lay down, she'd get right back up, so she was standing next to the bed, right next to the damn jewlery box. Eventually I snuck up and stole the ring right out from under her nose, the whole time she's getting in and out of bed. :lol

Of course, the joke was on me when I took both rings and quest became bugged.

And the worst part is, there are some serious issues with the "wait" command. Sometimes, even though time flies, the people are still where they were 8 hours ago, but suddenly realize time has passed and then move to where they were going. Sometimes. Sometimes they never go to sleep if you "wait". There's nothing more irritating than knowing someone goes to sleep at 1 a.m., "waiting", and they are still awake and staring at you at 4 a.m..

This quest in particular was an example of the flawed "wait" command. The Thieves Guild quest
where you had to wait for the man to forge your papers
was the worst.
you have to wait 24 hours, yet I waited for a full ingame week and he still said I was rushing him and to come back in a day.
I finally just let time fly on it's own. Went and watched some TV for a while, made a sandwich and came back. 3 in game days had passed "naturally".
HE STILL WASN'T DONE
.

Good does outweigh bad, just keep multiple saves in case you have to go back to a previous one because you got hosed by some quest line limiting bug or something similar.

The farther you get in the game, at least to me, the buggier it got. There are so many variables to consider since the game is so huge.

Oh, the good FAR outweighs the bad. It's a great game, with a handful of issues and bugs. I didn't even hit any serious bugs in my first 60 hours or so of playing. But when you hit one, like the one I'm trying to get around....it sucks. But with the patch out the odds of you running into one that is really bad is very small now.

I was referring to really game-breaking stuff. I only ran into two in my last game, both fixed by the patch. Though this one I hit really blows.

I was hoping the update would have fixed the freezes. I went back to play the game after a two-three week hiatus and the game instantly froze up on me. I haven't gone back yet. I will, though, just to get those two achievements, but the pain is still far too near. :lol

Make no mistake, the game has bugs, but quite a few were addressed in the patch. All that said, the game is amazing, and clearly the good out weighs the bad by a long long ways.

I haven't had nearly as many issues as some others here have had though. I had one bugged quest, that was laster fixed by another bug/glitch, and in over 150 hours of game play, I think I've had it lock up on me about five times or so.

And even if there are bugs, the game is so open-ended that you can figure out work arounds.

I had a bugged quest that involved a character that didn't show up and give me further directions in the quest so I looked online and found out which dungeon I had to go to and what I had to do and sure enough, everything worked out.

The problem with alot of the bugs, is the game is STRICT about what order things HAVE to happen in, like I was on this quest for one of the Dadera Lords and had to plant incriminationg Evidence, so after I killed these dudes I swapped thier Keys, you would thing anothers KEY would be incriminating, but the game wanted two SPECIFIC objects, also in alot of the quests, the NPC'S don't change thier behavior towards you EVEN if you are on a quest, So ALWAYS cast a +100 Charm on the NPC's before you talk to them it will save alot of wasted time.

Knock on wood, I'm about the same. Around 110 hours in, sill have to do the Dark Brotherhood and Main Quest. I've had maybe 6~9 lockups, all after a looong time of playing, 2 of which were related to the Xbox Guide button being pressed during a load screen. I normally take the lockup as my cue to quit and get some sleep.

As far as some of the bugs you guys have mentioned, I've found it's not good to hang around in someone's house for the wait period; if you are considered to be trespassing during that time period, (especially if you are in sneak mode but seen), the NPC tends to watch you like a hawk because they don't trust you. Had that happen when I was sneaking around in Eitar's house (one of the Armorer trainers) waiting for him to show up so I could possibly get some training. His wife couldn't see me, according to my sneak icon, but she watched me like a hawk for hours and hours of game time (about a day, actually), and never moved. It was kinda creepy, actually. I normally just stand on the street corner, or go back to one of my houses to wait for stuff like that.

I'm still trying to figure out a way for GhaleonEB to get around his quest buy. GhaleonEB, have you tried setting a different quest as your Active Quest, and completing it then coming back to the quest that's giving you problems right now, as bengraven suggested? Maybe that would reset something.

I've got too much damned consulting work to do AND play this game as much as I'd like to. I got a good 10 hours of playtime in over the holiday break, but I shouldn't have. I should be working on paying for an HDTV instead.

And here's my stupid question of the day. Please don't laugh (I'm dead serious, and yes, I HAVE been playing for over 100 hours and don't know the answer to this): What the hell does a Varla stone look like? I've been in several of the ruins and I've found Welkynd stones, but no Varla stones. I figure they're in the cages, casting light, but I can't ever reach them or knock them out with arrows. I'm getting tired of using soul gems to recharge my items during battle, as I'd like to use those for enchanting. So, help this idiot out: how do I get a hold of some Varla stones?

Anyone know where I can find a Ayleid statue easily? Apparently there's one in the first ruin you see when you exit the first dungeon (Viverin?), but I already cleared it and didn't find one. I want to start the Collector quest.

FTWer said:

The ones in cages are the Varya stones. You just need to find the switch to open the cages. I"m not sure if I've come across any dungeons where I couldn't open the cages to get those stones.

Anyone know where I can find a Ayleid statue easily? Apparently there's one in the first ruin you see when you exit the first dungeon (Viverin?), but I already cleared it and didn't find one. I want to start the Collector quest.

There is indeed a statue in that first dungeon. If you didn't find it the first time through, you need to look again. The Collector's Quest is awesome and well worth the effort. The statue doesn't look like a person though, more like some kind of ornate pedestal or something. Perhaps that will help you in your search.

Yeah, there usually switches nearby that lift the cages to get at the Varla Stones, they hide these switches pretty good though, also you need to get yourself a good range(30 plus feet) Telekaniesis spell to reach alot of the stones.A tip, I usually only carry one sword but I carry about 10-15 Staffs, usually the greater varity, and after my sword is used up I go through the staffs one by one until they are empty until they all are, and use a Varla to recharge EVERYTHING all at once, you get some good bang for the buck, I just wish you could constant effect a sword, so it never had to be recharged.

You can just shoot stones down with arrows.

I remember how I discovered this by accident. I was in one of those Stone-rich ruins and was pegging some poor bandit with arrows, from a ledge. I missed a shot and knocked one of the stones (which I thought was just a light source) off a wall/ceiling. Needless to say, shooting them all down was crazy fun. :D

Speaking of which - is there ANY other reason to use the telekenesis spells? I'm using them to grab those stones, just to level that skill, but I don't use it for anything else. I was hoping it would be able to hit switches and other things out of reach but no luck.

91% baby. 91%.

Should I buy Oblivion Collector's Edition for Collection purposes, or pass?

I got regular Oblivion for PC, but I'm wondering if I should pick up the collector's edition for 360 just to have... you know... in my collection. What do you guys think? It's either that or Guitar Hero (which I still don't own, but need to buy in order to have two guitars when GH2 comes out).

they call me "Man Gravy".

HE STILL WASN'T DONE
.

yup, I hate how screwy waiting is. Characters don't behave like they should when you wait, which really breaks the immersion. I know it would be difficult to truly implement a good waiting scheme, but the current one has some big flaws.

And about your quest, that quest is known to be bugged if you ask the guy about
the papers
before the full 24 hours pass. I don't know why they didn't address it in the last patch, probably because they just ran out of time

I love Oblivion and all, but I'll slap you if you even consider buying a SECOND copy of Oblivion over Guitar Hero. Sell your PC regular edition and buy the PC CE, if anything. Mods ftw and shit.

Kay, whew... I just needed to hear someone else say it, that's all... Although, I wouldn't mind the achievement points and I could always.... ahh... nevermind. Yeah I've been putting off GH long enough. Time to rock out.

If you have a rig that can run the PC version well and pretty, there's literally no reason to own the 360 version of Oblivion.

ESPECIALLY if you already have the PC version!! WTF man? GUITAR HERO!!!

Okay, I'm hoping someone can help with this bugged quest I'm on. As I described earlier, it's the "Ahdarji's Heirloom" quest, where I need to steal a ring. I'm not going to spoiler tag any of this stuff.

It seems I've got TWO bugs going on at once. The first is that the countess herself is nowhere to be found. It's the 21st of the month so she should be in the castle, but she is not there; she does not sit in her chair, and is not sleeping at night.

The second is that the character I'm supposed to speak to in order to learn her schedule is also missing. She has the unfortunate name of Hlidara Mothril. She's supposed to eat dinner at 8:00pm in the castle - I assume in the dining hall? - but she never shows up. I've gone through three months of game time looking for both, and they are not around.

My map marker is parked on a guard tower in Chorrol. When I go it, it's parked on the door I just came in. Rinse, repeat. It leads nowhere. I've spent about eight hours now trying to get around this apparant bug. Can anyone help?

Are you using the PC version of the 360 version?

If you're using the pc version, there's a console command that transports you to wherever a NPC is.
If by some accident she's dead (she keeps walking on the forest), there's another command do ressurect her (like nothing ever happened).

Maybe whoever tells you the schedule died, and you need to talk to that person to trigger the events of that quest.. i dunno, that's a option.

if you're on the 360 version.. then well, i dunno.
