After gatekeeper quest, map doesn't show the Fringe and Shivering Isles landmarks at the same time. Now to travel to my house in Cyrodill becomes 3 steps process: gate of madness to gate to Cyrodiil to my house....

Is it common?
Once, all the markers on my map disappeared. They came back a few minutes later, thank goodness. Nothing like your problem, though.

I just got the two Achievements for killing the
duke and dutchess. I did the duke first, since I'm most interested in Dementia. Pretty fun, intense sneaking quest. The dutchess was more my style, though, and holy hell what a fun quest. The dungeon was huge, with lots of fun battles. The entire MASSIVE dungeon at the end, entirely optional, was very fun. The secret switch leading to the heretic in hiding was a great touch.

So - the Greymarch has just
reached the Fringe. I'm off tomorrow to check it out.
About how far along the main quest am I?

Three main parts left, I think, and the last couple of parts are rather lengthy if you're not sneaking like me. Oh, and there's one of the dungeons where you will be confused as hell by the map. Just warning you.

So I had a glitch in my game. Remember the hunter who helps you with the gatekeeper at the start? I dunno how long he was there, but when I went back to the Fringe for the latter parts of the questline, he was stood outside one of the gates (Dementia, I think). I went to talk to him, but the (A) button was showing up as search, and I was ending up looting his body. He was dead! But he was standing up, eyes open and everything. Anyone else had that?

I know what you are talking about. I just finished that quest. And experienced that.

Too bad I cannot collect anything from dead golden saints while game allows to collect stuff from dead dark seducer.

I can't collect anything from Golden Saints either, just the Dark Seducers. Bummer, I wanted that armor.

There are some positively EPIC dungeons in this expansion. The one to
gather elements for the new Gatekeeper
was simply immense, and very challenging. I approve, of course.

So. I've run into what I hope is the most powerful Flesh Atronoch - he was tossing very powerful fireballs at me. It took me a half-dozen potions, several spells and a number of reloads to take him out. Unbelievable. I thought I'd run into the most powerful enemy in the game until I went outside and ran into the highest level bug for the first time. She crushed me, from full health and weapons, such that I had to hide out on the top of a large rock. I hopped down rocks to get to the bottom of a cliff and got to safety. I am in active fear as I travel the wilderness now. These creatures are far and away harder than anything in the main game. I like the challenge, but damn. 0_0

Oh, you don't have to worry about that. You'll have your chance to get some.

Turns out that it's heavy armor though, so I just threw mine in ye ol' armor closet. :(

Hmm? You don't own anything in Cyrodiil with the new character?

Once I get overencumbered, I've just been taking the new stuff back to my Anvil home. Must've made four trips so far. :lol

edit:
Confidence Man had a few suggestions for "permanent" storage here. You could try out those in the mean time. Then once you're either done with SI or heading back to Cyrodiil (and have gained a new home), you could transfer the items.

Aside from me having some random crashing and lock-up issues with the PC version of the game, I'm really starting to dig it now that I've finally sat down and started actually playing the thing. I'm pretty damn broke at the moment though, but I haven't really tried to sell alot or make any potions to sell. Still, it's a really nice world and I can't wait to dig into it more.

Also, as I said, despite the crashing and lock-up stuff, I'm glad I'm playing it on PC. Qarl's high resolution texture pack, plus a host of distant texture, normal map, hud, and other mods the game looks absolutely stunning. Seriously, the first time I played through I did the fixes to fix the distant textures, but doing these full texture replacements with more pronounced normal maps on pretty much everything makes the game just really come alive. Add in Natural Habitat for random birds and insects and Natural Landscapes to make pretty much all the foliage in the game twice as big and the thing looks freaking amazing. I particularly like how the larger foliage and trees just makes the world seem "older" to me since it's got larger trees in it.

I'm actually tempted to download Shivering Isle now even though I haven't done even 1/10000000 of what's available in the main game.

General question, am I supposed to venture into any random Oblivion gate I come across walking around? They seem sort of random. For instance,
when I was escorting Martin with Jauffre to to the Cloud Top Temple (or whatever it was called up in the snowy mountains) I came across one but didn't even go near it. I fell prey to a bug a few minutes later where Jauffre was stuck and wouldn't follow me, so I reloaded at a later point and started the trek again. This time though, the Oblivion gate wasn't there when I passed by the same spot.

Just now I see one just past the stables outside
Skingrad
and I've fought the creatures outside of it, but should I bother going through it? It just sort of appeared and isn't tied to any particular quest or anything like the one in Kvatch was, so is it ok to just pass it by and leave it? I wasn't really relishing another spelunking trip in Oblivion at this point.

You can just leave the Oblivion gates at this point.
When you finish the main quest they ALL close down. But before that when you have levelled up a bit you should find the monsters much easier and you can venture into some gates to retrieve armour and things which are worth a lot of money as well as other random goodies.

Could you post a couple of pics from your modded PC version? It would be interesting to see for those of us on 360.

Nada - I made this character just for the expansion. She took a few trips into dungeons for some starter cash and sprinted through the Mage's Guild recomendation quests for the enchantment access, but otherwise went straight into the Shivering Isles. But in that sense she's like me - travels light. She carries a sword and a bow, and that's it for weapons. (She's about to get a backup sword.)

I finished main quest line last night. Good one. Fews quests in the main story were little bit longer. Good to have variety. Also new dungeons are fun to explore except that maze like area where map doesn't help much.

Very serious bug has been found with Shivering Isles.

I just got the 360 DLC myself and I'm almost afraid to play now. =/

Wiki said:
It is not known whether this affects Xbox users as well (it is reasonable to assume that it would, but might not hit until around 150 hours of play assuming 30 FPS on Xbox)

I haven't read any reports about issues on the 360 version. Definately alarming, hopefully they get a patch out.

Thanks for the heads up. I seem to be OK at around 165 hours on the 360 (I left amber lying in the shop in Bliss and it was still there when I last played) but it would not suprise me if there was a such a huge bug.

It seems unlikely Bethesda will acknowledge it let alone patch it. Like they say in the article, Bethesda have so far ignored the animation bug which means my fighters guild quest line is terminally f*cked in the Azani Blackheart quest.

Luckily I was able to load a previous save - some people were not so lucky and have had the dude from the quest follow them everywhere around Cyrodiil meaning many other quests can't be done.

Thanks Bethesda! >:-(

That would just figure for me lately. First, I download the patch and it won't install on my machine for whatever reason. OK, I read that Shivering Isles installs it automatically anyway. Was planning on waiting a bit before buying SI, but what the heck, might as well pick it up. So I grab it on Friday for $24.99 and install it on Saturday. Pick up the Sunday paper and find out Best Buy has it on sale on Monday for $17.99. Now I read this and find out I've hit myself with a critical bug. 3 strikes and I'm out.

Well, I don't know if this is part of that game-breaking bug that everyone is talking about... but I've noticed here in the last few days that NPCs have stopped moving their mouth when they talk to you. That's just recently started happening for some strange reason.

Also, last night I was in a dungeon and tried to pick up a robe, and it produced all this weird artifacting on the screen then locked up the game. Had to do a hard reset which cost me about an hour of gametime.

I've put in somewhere between 75-90 hours into Shivering Isles so far.

Try
summoning either Golden Saint or Dark Seducer
. They are good for distraction, and more powerful than usual summoned creature.

My understanding of the bug is that it works on a savefile to savefile basis, so as long as I keep a save with only a few hours of SI included in it I can try to play the expansion anyway and see how far I get. Assuming it breaks down before I'm able to finish and a potential fix (a Bethesda developer has at least acknowledged the issue now) doesn't remove the dummy reference IDs but only stops them from increasing at a rapid rate I can load my earlier save and go from there.

Well, this is depressing. I'm probably very likely to get this bug, I have pretty much only played one character since starting Oblivion and am now over halfway through SI with around 170 hours played. I rotate between several save files, though that doesn't look like it'll help this problem.

Anyone else ever see this?

I saw it when looting a corpse, and took it for the hell of it.

Mirage's advice is good. I used this method -
Use Sheogorath's staff to paralyze Jyyglag... then quickly switch to your most powerful melee weapon and hammer away on him for 15 seconds... then swap back to the staff to knock him out again. Summon a saint, seducer or flesh atronach to whack away at him from behind. He'll be dead in about two minutes.

I'm assuming that's the PC version and you're using an interface mod? If so, it may be a bug with the mod?

Hmm.

Sheogorath's staff didn't do anything to Jyyglag. When I used it fighting the Knights, it froze everyone but I couldn't hit them. I walked through everyone. I've used it 10-15 times on Jyyglag and nothing happens (it's got a charge of 20 uses, I only used two before he showed up). If I could freeze him I'd take him out no problem, I'm a beastly melee fighter. He resists my Paralyze poisons as well, so no luck there.

That's strange. I fought him several times last night using that method (I kept reloading and fighting the battle over again because someone on the Bethesda boards claimed that you could loot his corpse, which isn't true) and it always worked like a charm for me.

Sometimes, you have to use the staff multiple times in a row before it knocks him out. He is a god, after all, and is highly resistant to all forms of magic. Once it does take effect, then you'll have a full 15 seconds to get as many shots in as possible. As soon as he begins the staggering animation, that's the best time to summon a saint or seducer

how do you check how long you've played??
It's displayed in the save profile screen. So go to save your game and it will show it in there, in "hours:minutes" format. I'm at about 36:30 right now in my new character for Shivering Isles.

Over at official forum this thread confirms existence of 'Fbomb' game breaking bug in Xbox version too.

So wait for official patch or start a new character to play new content.

Advice (Xbox)

XBox Note Make a copy of your savegame and keep it. Keep in mind that Bethesda is actively looking at the problem and if it does indeed have a substantial impact on the Xbox, they are likely to repair it. And from PC investigations it seems that the repairs are relatively simple.

* If you want to be more cautious, you might put off playing for several days, and wait to see if Bethsoft plans to release a patch.

* Or start a new, throw-away character instead of your main character. Be sure to completely restart the game first and then choose "New" from the first game menu to maximize the new character's available play time. Time spent playing with a new character will not affect any other characters you may have. So explore some new places with a new character until an official patch is released, then go back to your original character. Or if a patch is released quickly enough, maybe you will be able to continue using the new character.

PC users are lucky since there is an unofficial patch available.

No, I actually found that on a dead NPC. I was able to take whatever it is from the corpse.

Oh, and for PC players, here's a mod that makes crates, chests, barrels, candles, and some other things into havok objects so you can throw them around, rearrange the lighting in a house, etc....

Finally beat the bastard. A few quick thoughts, all spoilers.

-I loved that there are actual bosses in the expansion. Fighting the Gatekeeper, the shadow of myself and the last boss were great fun. I don't think the main game has any real, unique bosses and I was delighted to see them here. Though, there's a downside to being a very fast, overpoweringly badass melee fighter when you are fighting a copy of youself. :lol

-Dungeons ****ing rock in the expansion. I'm a dungeon crawling whore - love'em. Some of these took over two hours to clear out, and those were optional ones. It felt like nothing was reused from the first game - all new traps, layouts and design philosophies.

-Being a god has advantages.

I have a half-dozen or so side quests and a handfull of extra dungeons to finish up before I wrap up Shivering Isles. I'm nearly 40 hours into it, and will probably top out at around 50. All but a few of that was spent on the exansion itself. Overall I'm very, very pleased. The main quest was as good - and longer - as the Dark Brotherhood in the main game. Tons of variety to the monsters, caves, missions, characters and locations.

I got more than my $30 worth so far. I put more time into this than many full-priced games, including RPGs.

A little help with the Knights of the Nine, please! I will continue to look around the web for help, but anything would be appreciated.

I'm collecting the guy's suit of armor, and I'm in Chorrol, trying to pick the Gauntlets up off the ground. I've talked to the cursed descendent, Kellen, and have prayed at the alter to accept his curse. It told me to go talk to him to Lay Hands on him, but when I did, no new conversation choices appeared for him. Nothing new with the priest or the Gauntlets, either. Please help, GAF! Thanks.

You've been granted a new spell when you prayed, it just didn't tell you. Select "Lay Hands" in the spell list and cast it on him.

I've barely played SI, after I jumped through the portal for some reason I wanted to go back and finish all the quests I had, like the training ones and some other misc stuff. It's amazing sometimes how much content was in the original game.

OK - after watching one of the guys on my floor play the PS3 version, I'm getting ready to jump back into this game tonight.

Anyone have any general tips about navigating the Oblivion realm? Part of the reason I stopped playing in the first place was how I hated that those gates had booby traps every 10 steps.

I might try that Mehrune's Razor thing since I managed to snag it while it was free.

1) Mehrune's Razor rocks. Took me just over three hours to get through it, in one sitting. Great dungeon.

2) The traps in the Oblivion realm are predictable once you know what to look for. Most of them come from the walls and ceiling, rather than the floor. On the walls, look for sets of holes, usually arranged in a square grid. There's no visible trigger point on the floor, but those usually mean spikes are going to shoot out. For the ceiling, look for large sword-like blades and other sharp instruments. They'll fall right before you get under them, so if you keep walking forward they'll land on you. Trigger them and go under while they lift.

Basically, just keep your eyes open. None are truly invisible. Having a very speedy character helps as well. (And watch for the vine-like plants. When moving along cliff sides look for lose stones - if you hear them coming down back up.)

Quick question.. I downloaded SI and when I put in Oblivion, it says it's loading.. how long should it take to load? Cause.. it's been at least 10-15 minutes.

He's right that once you learn to look for them, the traps in the Oblivion realms are predictable. It's still a challenging set of towers [ie, dungeons]. It helps to save often, and slow down and take your time, moving from room to room only when you're fully healed.

I did it as a tank-style character, a Redguard knight-warrior kind with lots of strength and health. Frankly, if you're playing as a thief-style character, I'd think that the main quest line, including the Oblivion realms would be a lot harder to finish.

I finished the main quest (one version), but have a lot of side quests to do. Haven't played it since 4/3 either, so I'm looking forward to getting back into it.
