I am properly dissapointed, I stayed in a Hotel in Silverstone last night, on the way home we drove to the circuit for a quick look, we were there when the Mercedes was going around. I was sure I could hear something on track, but never waited long enough to find out what is was :-(

However the good news (for me anyway) is that I have a trackday at Silverstone on Sunday ...

No build-up, just straight to the start of the race. For longer races certain periods of quiet may be edited out.

Merc are very stringent, there won't be any spy shots. We'll have to wait until the 21st.
What information are you basing that on? Because everything I've read states that the 10 non-live races will be 'extended highlights' with a bit of pre and post show (plus the forum).

A member over on the Digitalspy forums a while ago; said member is normally quite well informed. Could be wrong though, but I hope not.

They've certainly got me excited already.

Interested to see how Crofty and Brundle is going to mesh though, can't be any worse than Legard.

I don't think the partnership will be as fluid as the Brundle/Coulthard combo, but they'll certainly be worth listening to.

I'm really going to miss the Coulthard & Brundle combo. Having two long time ex-drivers banging on about F1 for 90 minutes really made great entertainment for me.

Well I am properly jealous of your track day! Driving you personal car or something they offer for rent?

Brundle/DC was smooth as butter. I will miss the combo.

Some great comparison images...

Mclaren & Ferrari
Mclaren & Red Bull
I <3 the McLaren.

I might be a little late on this, but I just watched a video pop up on Autosport that actually showed off the paint detail on the STR. Holy hell, it looks good. The pinstriping down the nose and along the side, which was never really visible in side-on shots, just looks beautiful. The shape I'm obviously not so crash-hot on, but the livery is equal best on the grid (if not better than) with the McLaren IMO.

Petrov has a seat? Yes!

As someone who was inexplicably pining for him once it was clear he didn't have a seat, I'm over the fucking moon. That makes me really, really, really happy. And as far as bottom-tier teams go, I'm glad he's at the best.

Three teams with an interest next year, then. RBR for Webber, STR for Ricciardo and Caterham for Petrov. Obviously there are others, but it helps having a few favoured drivers in each tier to go for to keep the races interesting.

Don't know how I feel about this, always liked Jarno, but he has been in the sport since, what, 97? Guess it's time to go full time on the wineyard.
Really started to like Petrov last year, so I'm glad he has a seat.

Arrivederci Jarno, enjoy your beautiful vineyards.

Oh and contracts are meant to be broken, something my law professor and mentor told me many moons ago.

I totally agree after watching that video. There are some very nice details on the STR.

Invoice Shows Williams' PDVSA Deal Worth $46M:

A leaked invoice suggests PDVSA, the state owned Venezuelan oil company, is paying a staggering US $46 million for its sponsorship of the Williams team in 2012. Despite its authenticity having not been confirmed, the invoice from Williams — including the Oxfordshire-based team's correct Barclays bank account — requests the full amount in pounds sterling. Also appearing on the internet in recent months were the full contract between team driver Pastor Maldonado and Williams, and a stamped letter from Venezuelan congressman Carlos Ramos. The leaking of the documents, with the invoice now published on the website of the Spanish sports daily Marca, surrounds Venezuelan officials' doubts about the legality of Williams' lucrative PDVSA deal. Ramos' letter to Williams' communications boss Claire Williams last November referred to an "ongoing investigation" by the Venezuelan parliament. "You may ... be aware that our congress granted no approval to the sponsorship contract between Williams F1 and PDVSA," he wrote, demanding Williams divulge the "amount disbursed to date to Williams F1 by PDVSA." Maldonado is backed directly by PDVSA, and is famously close to Venezuela's controversial president Hugo Chavez.

don't ask me for codes
It has been rumoured for a while, but its odd they left it this late.
Why let Trulli test the car if they were just going to replace him?

I believe Caterham and Petrov were waiting for some sponsorship money to come in. They're not gonna let Petrov drive if that money doesn't come in.

I was watching some old footage of nordschleife and does anyone here wish that F1 would one day go back there?

Nope, the racing would be more boring than Valencia.

The driving would be pretty boring too, the cars are far too low for the Nurburgring.
