that step looks huge compared to the others?
I don't think it's a real step like the Sauber or Ferrari. It's more like the Caterham.

Hey guys, we're trying to find some new blood for our second F1 2011 league which will be starting in about three weeks. Don't want to derail this thread, but I thought it might get the attention of some new juniors who haven't seen our thread etcPop in if you're interested!
You know Mclaren means business when it's simultaneously using three different colors of flow-viz during testing.
![]()
Flow-viz always makes me think of the 09 McLaren, as that was the first time I paid attention to testing(Brawn showing up and being damn quick is one of my fondest F1 memories, haha). Does anyone know when the teams started using it?
Not sorry to see the back of Trulli. He was terrible at Lotus last year.
Can you blame him? He was racing for Lotus. He didn't seem that enthusiastic about racing last year.
Im posting alot of sky stuff these days, it makes me feel dirty...but.
This 5 minute ad (5 whole minutes!!) was apparently shown this evening on on about 7 major channels (itv, c4, c5, sky1 etc)

Sky are pushing thier new channel hard.

I wont by any means be supporting F1 on Sky.
For the sake of F1 I hope this bites Sky in the arse.
Any alt links? This one is dead.
Edit: Also found the 2012 BBC intro.
That's the 2011 outro, not the 2012 intro.
Without a doubt though, this is still the best BBC F1 video imo.
The Sky Sports F1 HD team has hinted at some of the features it hopes to include in its official Formula One iPad application, Sky Race Control. And the highlight so far is that it will allow viewers to watch the multiple live video streams on their tablet devices normally restricted to Sky's own red button service.
Sky Race Control is the banner the company will be using across all of its interactive services, red button and internet included, with the website also to give F1 fans the chance to look at alternative camera angles, on-board cameras and extra information, both video and otherwise.
Speaking to Pocket-lint at the impressive new Sky Studios complex in Isleworth, Martin Turner, executive producer of F1 HD, explained that a massively improved interactive channel line-up is something that Sky can provide that the BBC couldn't.
"Technically speaking, our multi-screen offering will be the biggest change," he said. "We will be offering [viewers] a choice of on-board cameras that theyve never had before. Well be offering a live Pit Channel. Sky will be covering the pits as its own channel, to see whats going on there because theres always something going on in the pits even without the cars being there."
But, rather than restrict these options to the broadcaster's own red button services, access will also be available via the web and a dedicated iPad app.
"The aim of Sky Race Control is to replicate that offering across all of our platforms," said Owen Williams, head of projects for Sky Sports Digital Media. "You will see, for example, on the website youll have your nine streams that Martin was referring to. So, in effect, you can be the race director, you can direct the race yourself.
"It gives an offering that, quite frankly, the BBC couldn't rival."
And Williams should know, he joined Sky from the Beeb last year.
They havent got the rights to do it. And theyd struggle technically to do it too, added Turner.
The executive producer, who has been at Sky for 27 years ("There were only 14 people back then") also may have leaked a further interesting titbit about the iPad app. "One of the things that is being developed for the application thats not a secret is the four-way split," he said, before turning to his communications team. "Er, if its a secret tell me "
What that suggests to us is that, as well as having the ability to access each of the interactive channels, four of them may be able to be viewed on the pad at the same time. Either that, or the screen will be tiled so that you can have different boxes of text or graphic information alongside a live stream.
Needless to say, there were no more details at this juncture.
"Its not that were trying to mislead you," said Williams. "A lot of these things are being developed, but then theyve got to go to Apple for submission, and a lot of stuff like that."
Sky F1 HD launches on 9 March. The standard definition version of the channel will also be available on Virgin Media from that date.
I got a raging hard on with that ad.
The climax is that Petrov has a fucking drive this year. Woo!That was good. It gets your blood pumping.
But it lacked a climax. And not enough green tracks, and not enough spectator and venue focus.
Hello peeps. I used to be big into F1 back in the day but lost touch and only recently decided I should get back into it. I used to be all about Ferrari and Schumacher because Im Italian so gotta go for the home team. But starting fresh this season with no allegiances. I still will always love Ferrari though. Don't really know much about Alonso or Massa but I know they're quite good. I'm kind of leaning towards Vettel and Red Bull only because i just signed with them for my second season in F1 2010. lol Big step up from being on Sauber my first season and pulling all the weight in the constructor (sorry kobay but you suck in this game).
Look forward to learning more about this sport and posting in here with you all.![]()

I guess your referring to the Hungarian GP accident right? Just youtubed it and wow that was frightening to watch. I assume he was knocked unconscious because he just kept going for a bit until he hit the tire barrier.
Noob question here. What is the role of the practice session exactly? Is it literally just an optional thing to get a feel for the course and your time has no bearing on qualifying? I think I've skipped practice in F1 2010 (again, most my knowledge comes from the video game) and then got fastest lap on qualifying and still took the pole. Or do they use an averaging system of both practice and qualifying to figure out your race position?

That's only because we're at a point where we'd take anything. The actual video wasn't that good. BBC does a much better job.
But since we're already posting great videos, I'm gonna repost the Shell/Ferrari video.

I wish it was available in 720p, the sound is amazing.
Oh seriously? I never saw that one. This one is so much better than the Kasabian one..
Personally, I like the Monza intro the best. It's just beautiful.
And I'm not even a Ferrari fan.

That Sky intro was so boring compared to the awesome intro's of the BBC. No climax at all. Want to get pumped properly? Watch these:

Räikkönen thought about leaving racing

Kimi Räikkönen lost his seat in Ferrari after season 2009. It was a hard hit for Räikkönen although he got an excellent compensation for his sacking.
Räikkönen even thought about changing profession, giving up racing completely after he was sacked.
- When I left from Ferrari I thought that I would change my life completely, Räikkönen revealed recently in Zürich when he met the international media.
- I thought that I would only drive motocross or something else in the future. However that pondering didn't last for long.
Räikkönen thinks that the F1-serie has changed for the better while he has been gone.
- The atmosphere is now much better than it was a couple of years ago. It's better in many ways.

Read this:Noob question here. What is the role of the practice session exactly? Is it literally just an optional thing to get a feel for the course and your time has no bearing on qualifying?
F1 practice and qualifying regulations said:At each Grand Prix meeting all race drivers may participate in two one and a half-hour practice sessions on Friday (Thursday at Monaco), a one-hour session on Saturday morning and a qualifying session on Saturday afternoon. While individual practice sessions are not compulsory, a driver must take part in at least one Saturday session to be eligible for the race.
Saturday's one-hour qualifying session is split into three distinct parts, each with multiple drivers on track simultaneously, and each with the drivers running as many laps as they want:
Q1: All 26 cars may run laps at any time during the first 20 minutes of the hour. At the end of the first 20 minutes, the eight slowest cars drop out and fill the final eight grid places. However, any driver whose best Q1 lap time exceeds 107 percent of the fastest time set during that session will not be allowed to take part in the race.
(Under exceptional circumstances, which could include setting a suitable lap time in a practice session, the stewards may allow the driver to start the race. Should there be more than one driver accepted in this manner, the grid order will be determined by the stewards.)
Q2: After a seven-minute break, the times will be reset and the 18 remaining cars then will then run in a 15-minute session - again they may complete as many laps as they want at any time during that period. At the end of the 15 minutes, the eight slowest cars drop out and fill places 11 to 18 on the grid.
Q3: After a further eight-minute break, the times are reset and a final 10-minute session will feature a shootout between the remaining 10 cars to decide pole position and the starting order for the top 10 grid places. Again, these cars may run as many laps as they wish.
If a driver is deemed by the stewards to have stopped unnecessarily on the circuit or impeded another driver during qualifying, his times may be cancelled.
