Nasr to replace Wolff as Williams reserve driver?

Brazilian media says his contract includes nine Friday practice sessions during the 2014 season, hopefully The Bott doesn't get the shaft.

Actually it was the Italian Autosprint Magazine that came up with this.

When those were the rules very few teams went out in the first 20-30 minutes of qualifying, unless the conditions were wet. You also ended up with bottle-necks right at the end of the session when everyone was trying to set a time.
Which gave the commentary team time to talk about all the interesting goings on around the weekend. A huge part of my love for F1 was simply listening to the commentators basically 'podcast'. The bottlenecks still exist.

Not to crawl too far up your ass, but if you've ever spend thousands of dollars to go to an F1 weekend, you'd be whistling a completely different tune.

What's wrong with Boullier?

Former Peugeot race director Olivier Quesnel is set to join Team Lotus. Currently the Frenchman is still in charge of the French Le Mans outfit Oak, but was unable to realise his vision there, the planned joint development of an LMP1 car by Oak and Honda (HPD) did not materialise.

Quesnel is considered an important link to the FIA, as he has excellent connections to FIA president Jean Todt, who himself is a former Peugeot man. Also not to be overlooked is that Todt’s son Nicolas is also the manager of Lotus’ new recruit Pastor Maldonado, who brings in much needed millions, important for Lotus’s survival, courtesy of Venezuelan oil giants PDVSA.

Quesnel is set to take up the position as Sporting Director, but is also expected to take over many tasks of a team principal.

Many things. I rather have 6 exciting minutes for an hour of watching than 2.

Most people will think that is is boring and stop watching the qualifying sessions and if if you pay money to go and see it live you want to have cars actually going around the track.

Yeah, but why does qualifying have to be non stop excitement for an hour? It is a stupid expectation. It sets the start positions for the race, but other than that why would it be more exciting than practise? If you pay money for a full day on a Sat and are only watching the qualifying you are doing it very, very wrong.

Surprise, surprise, it was deleted and now they tweeted this:

Well that is disappointing.

Not sure what your point is, but I actually like to be entertained while watching (TV). And excitement entertains me much more than nothing happening. If you found a way to make practice more exciting I'd be all for it too.

My point is that not every stage of the race weekend is non stop excitement. I would rather the traditional qualifying format was still there, it provided plenty of excitement, and sure, you didn't get excitement for a full hour, but you don't now either. You can tune in for Q3 and unless you are following a middling team you lose no information or excitement. It is exactly the same.

Qualifying is inherently not an hour of excitement. Attempts to make it so are stupid, doomed to failure, and are getting pretty silly.

Why do you prefer the classic format? Why shouldn't every second be exciting?

I prefer it simply because it is traditional and no other format seems to actually be any better. Hell, if they would just pick a format and stick with it for any length of time I would be happy with that, too. And I wish every second could be exciting. It can't, is the problem.

Twist is, with Grosjean and Maldonado driving, the engine doesn't get up enough temp before they prang into a wall.

Can start with the way he acted towards Heidfeld and take it from there really. Massively unprofessional.

(I'm not actually a Heidfeld fan, but the way he acted during that period was disgusting to me)

I must have missed something?

A mediocre driver gets blasted by his boss who then later fires him for doing a continually poor job. I don't see a problem. If only Whitmarsh had the same minerals and got shot of that joker Perez last year, they could have had Magnussen bedded in nicely for the 2014 season.

That Ford returning to F1 rumour has popped up again, maybe they're the ones funding the development of the Cosworth V6?

Too bad Heidfeld was the leading Lotus driver that season, did a much better job than Senna and still finished on P11 at the end of the season, with only 11 races under his belt (some of which were DNFs), while Senna scored some whooping 2 points, which impressed the fat Bully so much, that he dumped Senna at Williams. Well done! Btw, Vitaly Petrov, Heidfeld's partner for that season, finished the season on P10, with only 3 points more than Heldfeld, even though he had the full season.

Maybe Bullier is the perfect replacement for Whitmarsh after all!

Perez really wasn't that bad. He got 49 points compared to Button's 73.

And they made no attempt to make use of Perez best talent. At Sauber his ability to take care of his tires got him several very good finishes in a car no better than McLaren's last year.

I still don't get the Boullier hate. No driver is bigger than the team and if he isn't performing to the performance clauses in his contract what was he supposed to do? Ignore the board / Renault and get himself fired?

In Ron and Boullier We Trust

Perez really wasn't that bad. He got 49 points compared to Button's 73.

Button is a poor driver according to the internet, Perez should have buried him but he kept crashing and throwing it in the wall. Thankfully Ron stepped in and showed him the door.

Dat Perez tyre saving ability:

Poor qualy performance, strategy and winning the Pirelli tyre lottery is what got Perez those results. He's no tyre saving specialist.

Yeah, there was far more too it than that. Like I said, it was full on unprofessionally, including many instances of blaming Heidfeld for things he had no control over.

Not really worth arguing over though.

No wonder they are so quiet :D
It is turning from an embarrassment to a disaster. Renault engineers and reps from other Renault powered teams were there and they could still only do one lap, you could bet they were trying some quick fixes for the Bahrain test.

What will happen if Renault couldn't get their act together before the first race? And I mean the cars can't even finish a race?

They'll probably do everything they can to qualify and then bring the cars in after a couple of laps stating either an electrical issue or hydraulic problems.

They will be allowed to change parts causing reliability problems.

Meanwhile we would see only Mercedes and Ferrari powered cars fighting for points, which is I guess what Marussia is praying for, lol, as they would only need to finish the race with 3 'better' cars retiring and voila, first ever points scored.

But the glorious situation of Vettel fighting to even reach Q3, starting somewhere in the midfield, crying over the radio things like "i'm stuck behind this Chilton I think", "do something", "how is that even possible Gutierrez is in front now?" "multi 1-2, 1-2, oh shiet, that's not gonna work with a driver from rival ream" before his power unit expires on lap 10 is something I'm really hoping for. Man can dream, huh?

Bit more info on that missing Lotus tweet.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula-one/26098800

Formula 1 team Lotus have apologised for a tweet about the Winter Olympics which included a picture of two men kissing.

The tweet, which was posted on Friday, wished "all athletes a successful 2014 Olympic Winter Games #Sochi2014".

The Sochi Games, which were officially opened on Friday, have attracted criticism because of controversial laws in Russia banning "gay propaganda".

Lotus later said the tweet was "unauthorised" and had been deleted.

The Black Sea resort is hosting the first Russian Grand Prix on 12 October.

The Lotus F1 tweet upset top management and shareholders of the team, who are owned by the investment group Genii Capital, because it was causing problems for their business.

Genii is a multi-billion pound company with investments around the globe, including significant interests in Russia.
The Lotus team have a new Russian backer, mobile phone company Yotaphone. Its parent company Yota Devices is poised to buy a 10% shareholding in the team.
