German GP is struggling with poor attendance, meanwhile this is the grid for 24 Hours Nürburgring race:

200 thousand fans at the track.

Look at all those plebs.

It's disgusting that 200,000 fans would show up for a 24hr GT race but not show up for a Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend.

Obviously, I'm not being serious.

What do you mean fans appreciate a decent event with great access and fan interaction for a reasonable price? That's just absurd!

When individual teams and organisers at every level are doing everything they can to give fans access, data and a sense of community it produces a very different atmosphere from F1 who collectively crap themselves if someone uploads so much as a fan trailer on youtube.

Some of the cars even have heartrate and brain function monitors with all the data being freely streamed.

One of the things from the strategy groupe that I thought interesting

The launch at the start of a grand prix is currently conducted via programmed software. More often than not a poor driver start stems from the like of a calibration issue in the wake of the installation lap.

Under new rules drivers would start by using their own clutch.

Yeah, it's a no brainer to remove it. The same should be done with various engine maps, it's silly to have engine maps for softs, hards, inters or wet tyres.

Sport Bild mentions that, perhaps unsuprisingly, Ferrari updates at Barca didn't work the same as they were on wind tunnel model:

But I had to laugh at the other stuff, they are such Vettel fanboys. He is apparently driving difficult car right now and also he's better in his first Ferrari year so far than Schumi was, lol.

It's a sad state of affairs when refueling is being touted as an exciting reason to watch F1 again.

Not really. I was wondering a few years ago why they don't bring it back in.

Different teams running different fuel loads and strategies can have a big impact on over taking, how long tires last etc. It'll differently shake things up a bit as teams might opt for shorter or longer stints, some running heavy but longer and others running faster but shorter. The only variance right now is tire choice and really they already have a good idea what each is good for so they end up on the same strategy anyway, this will open up a few more ideas.

All is just again in the universe.

So nothing has changed at Ferrari.

Upgrades don't work? blame the wind tunnel and praise the driver for doing so well in such a difficult to drive car.

Third big crash in Indy this week.

Something must be wrong with the cars or the track.

edit: They're adding more downforce and reducing engine power. All three airborne incidents was with Chevy cars.

Hmmmm interesting.

Just looks like massive oversteer/the back trying to catch up with the front. Was it windy? Rear wings look helliva low on those cars too.

Hope the driver was okay!

Driving there someday is on my bucket list.

The first time I went it was during a Euro road trip with my friends when we were 18. The thing that struck me the most compared to TV was how step was the uphill after St Devote (we were driving a Ford Transit that struggled in second gear) and how tight was the turn inside the tunnel. We were four guys and we did a 'lap' each.

I went once, many years ago. And it's downright cruel that the one-way system means you can't actually drive the track.

Wait, I thought the tunnel was one-way (the wrong way)? Has that changed?

Americans coming here to Yurop to drive a Ford Transit van the wrong way around our Grand Prix tracks while clapping.

Ferrari will stick with its new upgrade package for the Monaco Grand Prix after investigations confirmed it was not the cause of its lack of pace in Spain, Motorsport.com has learned.
The team’s conclusion is that its pace in Spain was related to a lack of mechanical grip and traction, which was highlighted by its particular struggles in sector three.

Germany's Audi rules out entry into Formula One racing
May 18 Germany's Audi has no plans to enter Formula One, the company said on Monday, seeking to end speculation that the sportscar maker was tempted to broaden its commitment to motor racing.

"This is not a topic for us," a spokesman for the premium brand, which is owned by Volkswagen, said.

German daily Handelsblatt on Monday reported that Audi Chief Executive Rupert Stadler had ruled out an entry into Formula One after speculation of a partnership with former champions Red Bull.

Even with the 100kg per race fuel limit being imposed you can still shave off time in a race stint by doing shorter, faster sprints in lighter cars with the drivers going flat out each stint.

Im not especially concerned with the quantity of overtakes, I care about the quality of them. I would trade 10 DRS passes for an overtake like Schumacher on Raikkonen at the 06 Brazilian GP. Restrict aero designs on the front wings and allow Perilli to make better tyres to provide more mechanical grip for the cars.

I have no clue where you got that from, it hasn't changed, you were always able to go both ways in the tunnel as far as I'm aware. Maybe your GPS failed you :p

There are some variations you have to do from the F1 circuit, like up in the casino square and another later after the tunnel you don't do the chicanne, but the tunnel is definitely doable both ways.

The drivers were all OK.

They said it could those little winglets behind the wheel. In any case, it's quite odd.

It looks like something broke on the car. The white smoke coming out the back ~5-6 seconds into the video.

Hope the surgery goes well and he's ok (as ok as he can be)

Maybe I'm thinking of Casino Square. I think I remember going up Mirabeau, anyway.
