The Formula 1 2015 Season |OT| Formula E Feeder Series

Ah the good old times, we had a Europe foldable map that first time.

Mirabeau is also two-way.

According to Le Google Maps, you can pretty much drive it. Only part that isn't is the Casino Square turn, since the square is counter-clockwise travel. I think the last turn is also slightly different.

Formula 1's youtube page just put up high quality raw feed footage of the 2000 Japanese GP.
I can only imagine the kind of goodies FOM is witholding from the public in its archives: if they would offer a streaming archive of high quality video (which I know they have) from historic races a ton of people would probably pay a considerable subscription fee to access it.
I cant wait for Ecclestone and his contempt for digital media to go away so the rich and legendary history of the sport gets the treatment it deserves.

Shit. Porsche then?

It's either Audi or nothing. Porsche has a huge motorsport programme that goes beyond Le Mans - and they returned last year to the 24h.

Don't think they would want to use F1 to kickstart any Volkswagen motorsport programme and all the other brands are too small.

Actually, that footage is pretty much copy-pasted from the season review DVD that they released in 2001, so it's not like it's anything that they haven't made available before.

Hamilton signs three-year contract extension with Mercedes.

MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS is pleased to announce that it has finalised a new contract with Lewis Hamilton for the 2016 to 2018 Formula One seasons inclusive.

Since making his Formula One debut with McLaren in 2007, Lewis has started every one of his 153 Grands Prix with Mercedes-Benz power and this track record includes 36 victories, of which 15 so far were at the wheel of a works Silver Arrow.

Lewis joined MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS in 2013, winning his first race for the Silver Arrows in Hungary that year. In 2014, he claimed 11 race wins on his way to securing his second Formula One World Championship; this title saw him become the first driver since Juan Manuel Fangio to win the World Championship in a works Mercedes-Benz.

Lewis currently leads the 2015 Formula One World Championship by 20 points from team-mate Nico Rosberg.

Lewis Hamilton commented: "Mercedes is my home and I couldn't be happier to be staying here for another three years. This is a company filled with real passionate racers, from the board room to the factory floor, and an incredible hunger to win. Even after the success of last year, that hunger is greater than ever - and it's the same for me, too. The Mercedes car I am driving right now is the best I have ever had in my career; it's just so much fun to be out there every weekend, on the limit and fighting to win at every track. Mercedes-Benz began supporting me in 1998 so I am very proud that this contract means I will mark 20 years with Mercedes in 2018."

Head of Mercedes-Benz Motorsport Toto Wolff continued: "Continuity is one of the key factors for delivering success in Formula One and we now have that in place. Lewis enjoyed an historic World Championship season with Mercedes-Benz last year and it was a priority for this season to renew his contract for the next term. We have taken the right amount of time with the process and not rushed ourselves. The result is a strong agreement that will enhance Lewis' association with the Mercedes-Benz brand, and that recognises and respects the market value of Lewis and of Mercedes in Formula One. Lewis' sporting track record speaks for itself and he is a great personality for the company. Personally, I am looking forward to continuing to race with the strongest driver pairing in Formula One and to more historic achievements together."

#F1 @RGrosjean will get a 5-place grid penalty for Monaco. Gearbox was damaged during last race in Spain & has to be replaced.

Poor Romain, at the worst possible track.

Totally not related to F1 or some red team:

Maaaan, I know I sound like a broken record - but you should always be careful what you wish for...

I'm not disagreeing with you but who is on the possible list now and how would they be worse?

Horner is the only one I have heard mentioned. I don't know him well enough to have an opinion on how he would do. My perception is he may not have thick enough skin for the job.

“If the tests come back we will have similar rules to seven or eight years ago, which means the last four or five years we have been going in the wrong direction.

When asked whether he thought fans agreed with that sentiment, Alonso responded by saying 'I think the grandstand tells us'.

Indeed, Alonso says he doesn't feel as though he has been challenged 'physically and mentally' since his first title-winning season of 2005 when he raced with Renault.

“In 2005 the cars were eight seconds quicker. In Malaysia this year the engineers made a calculation that the winner this year compared to the winner in 2006 was six laps slower – so he would have been lapped six times.

“When you are six or seven minutes in a race, or eight seconds per lap quicker than this year's car that is very demanding physically and mentally and everything was pushed to the limit. This was maybe ten years ago.”

Damn.

They slowed down massively even in no refuelling era. 2010 Lotus on Bridgestones, which was 5 seconds off Red Bull, would be fighting for victory in this year's Malaysian GP.

Thanks, Pirelli!

Finally some updates on Force India car:

Does that really matter, though? At the end of the day, F1 cars are still the fastest cars around the circuits they race on. Isn't worrying about the total time it takes for them to complete a race distance a bit arbitrary?

Because they also slowed GP2 down, lol.

But on a slightly more serious note, personally, yes, it matters to me. Current mess, on and off the track, at least would be enjoyable, if F1 was really a pinnacle of motorsport/technology and lap times would be amazing considering regulations. It isn't though, it's artificially slowed and dumbed down. I can only imagine, but as a spectator, I would be pretty disappointed, tasting what F1 was only few years ago and what it is now. As Alonso said, "The grandstands tells us."

It's not about quantity, but quality. When both aren't there... <shrugs>

It matters if a 17 year old can handle a Formula 1 car just fine. It hast to be demanding on the driver. So that Talent and dedication wins a WCC and not Aero.

I heard somewhere an anecdote from the late 90's about Damon Hill (I think it was from F1fanatic) Who said, that he had to give his "all" to drive for the Championship and win it and he didnt want to do it again after he won it. (well he was in an Arrow the next season)

Aero has to much influence on the outcome of GP wins today. If you make the car more difficult to drive, it is the drivers job to make the most out of his car in conjunction with his ability to drive difficult cars.

Ricciardo:

“It doesn’t feel fast, and we know it’s not going very quick – particularly at the start,” he added.

“By the sound to it it’s all going to go ahead. From a driver’s point of view, I don’t see any negatives. I think we all want it. We’d love to go harder for longer, so it should be good. We need to go faster – for the fans as well.

“They’ll gain the respect back that potentially we’ve lost a little bit.”

Local TV director clueless as usual. Sky has to show replays from onboards, because he's not bothered to show any of the excursions so far.

Yep, Horner is the heir in waiting.
He gets the job, F1 will become a full on sponsor circus a la RB Air Race.

Aiii

So not worth it
McLaren 3 seconds ahead of the field.

That's fun.

-edit: Verstappen just went a bit faster to make it 2,5s, heh.
