There has been talk about Kimi's quali speed in here as well, and they had pulled some numbers out:

2005-2015: Kimi v Team-mates 75-76

Last year: Kimi v Alonso 3-16
This year: Kimi v Vettel 0-6

Kimi says it's the new tires. That paired with the fact that instead of the likes of Heidfeld, Montoya, Coulthard etc., he's now paired up against actual top, top drivers, his quali speed needs to improve if he wants to compete vs Vettel and even then it'll be hard.

EDIT: Ferrari engineer said Kimi struggles to get the tires kept in the right temperature window unlike other drivers. Pirelli says it's not a problem since no one else has the problem. "He just has to be a bit faster"
