Boy, Dead Trigger is a looker. Might be the best looking game on the AppStore.

I don't like the bite size style of missions though, but the game is well made.

I bought Cthulu.

I'm using a 4th gen iPod Touch.

The controls are terrible. The dpad you can't see doesn't work as I'd expect and I end up going the wrong direction all the time. Scrolling through a list is not terribly easy without being careful. You should be able to tap just about anywhere for the A button. The controls should really work like the ones in Chaos Rings do.

It's over 400 megs installed. I thought it was smaller than that on PC. It is crazy big.

The developer screen is upside down compared to the rest of the game.

It has crashed on me a LOT.

It's a real disappointment since I really loved the game on PC.

Yup, only played it for a minute but this is certainly up there with the absolute best looking games. And fortunately Madfinger still keeps things very well optimized, shit runs very smoothly on my iPhone 4.

In celebration of their 40th birthday, you can get all 100 games in the Atari's Greatest Hits for FREE today (normally $9.99).

The catch?
Offer available today only, and only in effect as long as you keep it installed.
All games in the collection will remain free-to-play UNTIL you remove or reinstall the game.

Pretty cool if you like all that old shit (or think you do) ... get it here :

so what happens when the app is updated?

Animations are really nice too. Shooting zombies is very rewarding because of that. Weapons also feel great. At least the two that I tried (M4 and a Colt pistol).

In fact, the shooting is a problem I have with Shadowgun (not very satisfying, no headshots, etc) and they fixed that in Dead Trigger. Shooting limbs off and head shooting zombies feels really good.

First impressions tell me this one is a keeper.

Is there any form of multiplayer?

I impulse-bought Dead Trigger because splurging on a 99c game makes me feel superior to TouchArcade denizens. It's surprisingly good! It's kind of like a single player version of Killing Floor.

Is it my imagination, or was my weapon taken away in Dead Trigger after the third or fourth mission? When you encounter the shop, you only have enough money to buy crappy weapons UNLESS you conveniently purchase more in-game money for real-life money.

But I'm pretty sure they actually take away your current weapon at that point. So your only choices are either a crappier gun than you had, or spend more money. Pretty terrible.

Man, I've been waiting for Clash of Heroes on iOS for forever. It's one of those games that I always meant to pick up for DS, but just never got around to doing so. I'm surprised it took 'em so long to port it over.

Dead Trigger for 99c is dead good value! It's a no-brainer!

Amazing Spider-Man is trash. And this is coming from someone who likes Total Mayhem.

Looks bad, framerate is all over the shop (iPad 2), voice work is terrible and the combat is worse than it was in the first game.

7 big ones I'll never see again. Oh well, you win some you lose some.

At least I'm enjoying Asphalt 7.

That's a shame, I was looking forward to some web-swinging. Thanks for taking one for the team man.

Somebody mentioned Zombie HQ a few pages back so I checked it out (free). Pretty decent 3D graphics and fun twin stick shooting. Lots of IAP but haven't played enough to know if it's bad.

I'm curious about Dead Trigger but I instantly regret buying every game with that style of control, including Shadowgun. Should I even bother if I find Modern Combat 3 barely enjoyable?

Dude, the game is meant to be played like this. You start with only a pistol and keep earning money to buy better weapons/equipments. It's not something exclusive to games with IAP, and it would be pretty pointless to start the game with a kickasss weapon already. Careful with the IAP paranoia. :P

The pistol gets the job done well enough until you earn money to upgrade. I love pistols anyway. ;)

I really hated Shadowgun. I also hate Gameloft's FPS games. Dead Trigger is very good though. If your problem with these games is the control method, you'll probably have the same issues with Dead Trigger, though. That said, Dead Trigger is just a much better game than any iOS FPS I've played to date.

The thing with Dead Trigger is that it has the kind of mission structure that gets repetitive fast. The core gameplay and presentation is very well done though, and for $1 I think it's worth it if only to blast a few zombies every now and then. And in a way this structure is ideal for portable play.

Tried the game on my iPhone 4 and it looks great, running very well. The game loses the ragdoll effects though.

Maybe you're right. I was just taken aback at the idea that they actually took away my weapon. Guess it's alright in the grand scheme of the game, but I was still a little peeved that I had to downgrade.

I don't like the IAP direction a lot of games are taking now, but I guess they have to make their money.

If you were addicted to Tiny Tower and have been looking for something to fill that void for ages, you are like me. You are also like me if you hoped that Pocket Planes would be the game to do it but ultimately found that the experience doesn't last long.

I've been playing No Zombies Allowed. The set-up is Tiny Tower-esque, you have to stock business and staff them with people, etc, though here you don't buy stock with coins you have to actually get stock by going on missions. These missions involve shooting zombies in their faces. It's not, like, mindblowing or anything, but it's fun. And it has a zombie theme. Obviously. You get people arriving at the entrance to your city and you can welcome them in or turn them away, and if you turn them away (DENIED) they get messed up by zombies. Then you shoot them.

Crucially, there appears to be no "make all your friends think you're a cunt by bothering them with stuff they don't care about on Facebook!" feature, which was probably my favourite thing about Tiny Tower.

So yeah, if you didn't like Tiny Tower there's not much point you trying this. If you've been looking for something to do now that you've finished Tiny Tower though, it's the best replacement I've found.

All achievements in Cut the Rope Experiments. Woot.

Going to have to bite on Dead Trigger for $1. It's not mentioned to be a launch sale but I feel it will most likely go up in price later. Really enjoyed Shadowgun despite it also being on the repetitive side, so that won't be much of an issue to me.

Sounds nice, I'll be giving this a try. Still on the same boat of wanting that Tiny Tower fix (even though in a roundabout way I'm glad PP didn't own me like that, considering how devilish TT could be when it came to interrupting my productivity).

Did you see the cut-scene though? He bashes a zombie with it coz he's out of bullets then it slips out of his hands and falls into an elevator shaft or something.

I don't see it as a game mechanic to make you spend dollars, I think it's more like how at the start of some games like Assassins Creed you have all your abilities as a teaser and then they quickly take them off you and make you grind for them.

Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes coming to iOS.

Also, did you guys see that Horn video? Game looks fantastic.

Hands-On and video:

Finally.

$100 IAP, awesome

Is it playable as a strictly free game?

So far. I've had a few races, my gas went down a bit (you have to pay for gas lol) but then I put down my iPad and a couple of minutes later I got a popup saying my gas is refilled. It might get worse as it goes on though.

I'm guessing gas is refilled on a timer? Meh.

The game is pretty shallow overall but it's only 80MB, it's worth installing just to go 'ooh shiny car models' and then deleting it after a few races.

Tried dead space. Could not get passed the controls. Now know dual stick games on this device aren't for me. Its a shame because the production values seemed pretty high.

As a woeful 3GS user I must ask, when the hell are developers gonna stop catering to that shit and move forward. iPhone 4/4S and beyond only apps could do so much more.

Sorry if this has been mentioned before, but has anyone else played monster paradise? It's a F2P game from Asia and its sort of like pokemon, it's definitely got all the failings of most F2P games but it's not too bad to just hop on for a few minutes every couple hours

We made the call in the last couple of weeks that all of our in development stuff is only going to support 4/4S and "up".

Will definitely help improve the quality of our games on the higher end devices.

I just finished Jurassic Park Episode 1 and thought it was entertaining. How are the rest? I might just wait for the Walking Dead game.

Doesn't a 4 have comparable performance to a 3GS? Also, what about the rumors of Apple keeping the 3GS around for budget/prepaid/developing markets?

Man, flicking through the ~26 pages on Dead Trigger over at TA is a laugh. The first 2 or 3 pages are filled to the brim with glowing love, but by the pages in the late teens and into the 20's, there is a a complete 180 in tone (as well as the usual rubbish, consoles vs iOS etc arguments).

For $0.99 I'm gonna give it a bash just to see it in the flesh (?) anyway.
