The Last of Us 2 is the best piece of content that I’ve ever consumed (Today is its 5th Anniversary June 19th 2020)

I wish I could see past the controversy. I loved TLOU1 but lost the interest completely in the sequel when the story was spoiled. No Joel. No interest. Can't remove the only interesting character from the game, who even had his own physical copy edition, and expect me to care. I haven't even seen season 2 of the TV show either. There are no interesting characters left in that IP now.

No doubt one of the most disappointing games i've ever played.

They absolutely nailed the visuals, level design, voice acting, animations and gameplay, I don't think anyone can argue that.

But then comes the story, characters and pacing, all three are as bad as can be in a huge videogame. It's hard to believe something so poor can be officially written, the worst "revenge" story of all time.

I actually have the opposite opinion on its story. Ghost of Tsushima came out like a month after Part II and it felt borderline amateurish in comparison. I had to wait a few months to play it before I could even take it seriously. I eventually ended up loving that game too but it's just a lower tier of writing imo, as are the majority of games.

Part II absolutely swings for the fences unlike any game I've ever seen. It is so utterly unapologetic and I love it for that. It buckles under its own ambitions a couple times but I can easily forgive it because it was so effective for me.

Well, I can't say I'm surprised by somebody who calls himself "reseteravetvip" loving woke garbage. Granted that from a technical standpoint, it was an impressive game, but as far as story and pacing goes, it's absolute trash.

Definitely, TLOU 2 fanboys would have a tight competition with Zelda BOTW crowd about which are more annoying.
At least the Nintendo fanboys are not so obsessed with awards and ratings of BOTW although they could back it up with user reception. I wish i got 1 dollar for everytime someone brags about TLOU2.

Its pretty good.

Not great but a good game. Too long and bloated and issues with the story but its what Neil wanted to make and I respect it. I dont have to love it but he made what he wanted.

Its a great fucking game. I have Rockstar and Naughty Dog as the two studios with the best technical prowess. The combat is peak and the animations are so damn fluid. I hope Intergalactic builds upong the melee system. The melee and 3rd person shooting and finishers depending upon what weapon you have, or where you are in the environment is better than any game I ever played.

The gore in this game does not get enough praise for how much detail there is. If you get a head shot near the wall with a pistol, you can see the NPC's brains sliding down to the floor. Small detail, but shows how much passion they put into it. I dont care if you like the story or not, but saying this game is boring or trash invalidates your opinion on what a good video game is.

I still remember when it was leaked that Xbox had their employees review the game and said "its significantly ahead of anything on consoles or Pc"....

Finished it a week ago, it is a masterpiece. The hate for the story is dumb. Yes, I hated that Joel gets killed. Which is the god damn point. But dammit, it was justified by the story and by his actions. It is not a case of bad storytelling. And the game takes that death and uses it for some brilliant ambiguous depressing yet hopeful storytelling of a quality level that is still pretty rare in games.

Also, it still looks so fucking good (played on PC)

It almost certainly is still the best Technical game of all time. Like OP said the animation and sound design and AI and environment design and attention to detail, nothing else has matched it.

But I prefer Last of Us 1 overall as a game. I like the scenario design more and obviously the story is better. I really like Last of Us 2's story, I even appreciate the mid game character switch, but you can tell there was a lot of editing going on, it feels like the Scars development was just dropped at a certain point, never get to learn what was up with their martyr leader, Rattler's feel woefully underdeveloped, how Abbys Fireflies group integrated with the WLF never feels great. I don't mind Joel dying at all, I honestly don't know how you keep him alive and just have him going "aww shucks I did doom Humanity, get over it."

But still Last of Us 1 is like a 10.0 story whereas Last of Us 2 is like an 8.8 at best, obviously with a lot of people thinking it is a 1.0/10 because it is Woke or some shit. Last of Us 1 also has amazing multiplayer.

I wonder how many people that really hate the game's story had it spoiled in the infamous leaks.

Because coming at it unspoiled, and in the moment, the death scene was a shock, and the whole story was engaging and made sense.

It's not the same if you know the story beforehand, you read countless "why would Joel even..." and "Ellie should've just..." theories, because they influence you and they make sense when presented that way.

But you're not dissecting and rationalizing like that while playing. You're much more engaged and more likely to accept things as they happen, instead of pausing the game and going: "Wait, wait, would that character really do that in that scene based on what I know about them?".
People don't analyze stuff like this as they consume a media product.

This is why your truest feeling about something is most likely to happen just as you finish it, and not in retrospect after thinking about it for 2 days and reading online theories. Fuck that, that doesn't count. What did you feel the moment you finished it?

And that's why I hate opinions like: "I didn't understand shit about Dark Souls, but after watching a 60 min story and lore recap, it's actually beautiful". Nope, doesn't count.

One truly bad thing about the game is Abby being so roided up. Ironically, if they just acknowledged it in the game, or had a scene where she's taking roids, it would've been a much more interesting approach.

Like always: great graphics, combat and production values, awful pacing, narrative and writing. Also I wanted both playable characters to die. The "Joel thing" is the least of its problems.

The second season just reminded me how much I hate this game. I thought to replay it but the thought of how long and poorly placed it is really puts me off. Characters are also such a downgrade to the original.

Is it impossible for a woman to get a physique like that if she works out every day for 4 years?
We did get to see the very well equipped gym she worked out at.

TLOU won against GTA 5 in 2013.

TLOU 2 was so far and away the best game to come out in that timeframe (end of the gen) it would have cleaned up any year
Why do you mention TLOU 1 like that has any impact on TLOS 2s awards? That game was far superior to the sequel.

TLOU 2 would have no shot in 2017, 2018, 2022 or 2023. Maybe in 2019 and 2021, but with stiffer competition and less awards.

Too many people disliked the dragged out Abby parts, the whistle faction sillyness, and Ellie's lackluster conclusion.

I guess the last of us 2 is the best piece of content (funny how you cannot say piece of art or litterature) to consume, for people who consume content instead of reading books, watching movies, etc.
For everyone else it's just a good game with a bad story, a cheap shock value thrill that tries to appear deep but ultimately is as shallow as its writers.

... in my opinion the story is awesome.

Before The Last of Us 2 released there was a-lot of controversy surrounding it due to leaks, these leaks created negativity and trolls to form an alliance who would lead to a community of troll hivemind, review bombers and fake game reviews. The contrast between reviews and user reviews are way too stark to see as normal. The review bombings are evidenced by the death threats and childish slander that many of the cast and developers received. These same review bombings would eventually carry over to the TV series. None the less The Last of Us 2 was the most highly awarded game of all time before being surpassed by Elden Ring (a then multiplatform mainstream game) and the Last of Us 2 currently sits at the 2nd most awarded game in video game history.

From the eye rendering to the PBR materials and animation, the Last of Us 2 is still unmatched by most games and is still top 10 best looking games ever created. Details like Ellies idle face emotions or Dina squinting when the flashlight hits her eyes or Abbys nose cartilage reacting to the ground or her muscles flexing realistically when she fires her weapon, the attention to detail is insane.

The ambient sounds, sounds of the guns, firing animations, infected sounds and high quality motion blur add to the immersion. The high quality PBR materials and perfectly baked lighting coupled with high geometric density (especially in cutscenes) make certain parts look pre rendered. The animations that blend and transition perfectly to make the characters move convincingly. The incredible facial animation. Enemy A.I. thats convincing and smart. Controls that feel great in hand. This technical feat was all done on a PS4 in 2020.

Attention to detail is in every. single. nook and cranny of TLOU 2, this piece of content screams elite quality. The Last of Us 2 is a masterpiece regardless if you like the story or not, I have never played anything like it and nothing else comes close. I don't think anything will top TLOU 2 besides maybe TLOU 3.

EDIT: Many big movies have taken major
Inspiration from TLOU 2 like Alien Romulus and 28 Years Later. The Last of Us was also inspired by other movies and books itself…

I beat it on PC/Grounded difficulty a couple of weeks ago. Truly a masterpiece 💪🥳

Tlou 2 and The Evil Within 1 are in my opinion the greatest survival horrors out there. Can't praise them enough 🙌

Original had a lot going for it in premise, world building, road trip movie with characters you like.

I haven't heard glowingly positive things from anyone seemingly neutral, so where did the launch positivity come from?

I'll finish it someday, but it's boring if you don't care. I think it's that the only character you get to learn as you play is Joel.

I think playing a character, having the author obviously hold back info, and later being shown their backstory and why you should care is always a fail. It's the MGS Raiden problem. I still don't like Raiden as much as other characters, but Revengence did change that equation.

I wonder if there are other examples of this problem and the rake take devs step on?

Well, because people who've experienced great or even good art don't talk that way. They might talk that way about their food, but not about great novels, movies, or music. Talking that way is reduces you to a "consumer" and the art to a product.

So, when you talk that way ("best content I've consumed"), I figure that you probably haven't experienced much great or even good art. Your bar is very low. That's why you think TLOU2 is so great.

In terms of animation quality, number one in industry until today.

My biggest problem with modern games is that graphics are amazing but animations and flow still feel like stupid robots.

I couldn't make it past the first 4h.
One of the most boring games ever created.
A polished shiny turd is still a turd.

I really hate this part... If it weren't for that scenario, I'd play it again.

That's one of the things I hate about the game... The other is the dog abuse.

It's damn good. Somehow I never get bored of replaying it. I always discover a new trick or route, or the enemy surprises me by doing something random.

Superb game.

Played Last Of Us 1 on PS3 and haven't played a Naughty Dog game since. I put my money where my mouth is so I didn't buy Last Of Us 2, because I do not support Drukmann's degeneracy

Tbf, i did have some good laughs out of the game. Still only a fraction of the laughs i had with the intro of Heavy Rain tho.

The whole woke/acces media jerked off to this game for months, the game was only divisive among gamers/fans, it had a full buffet of edgy liberal things for them, lesbians galore, two "female" leads, a she-hulk, a lot of strong female character's, a lot of dumb and pussy male characters, the hetero male beloved lead being killed within two seconds, bigot sandwiches, and so on. Than you add ND superior animation and graphical power.

This game was taylor made for awards at that time just like some movies for oscars in the same period. It would have won no matter the competition.

I loved it but season 2 really soured me on it.
