The Last of Us Multiplayer Discussion Thread

A non listen mode playlist would be good.

I will also never understand the need for every single multiplayer game on the planet to have perks and weapons locked behind ranks and levelling up. CoD really has had a bad effect.

Counter Strike is the best competitive FPS ever made and doesn't have that shit.

A slow, tense multiplayer experience with no listen mode and no bullshit perks and I might carry on playing.

Since CoD4 I cant play any competitive multiplayer without some form of progression system. It is for the non-competitive folks, like me.

I couldnt care less about performance stats, such as K/D ratio.

Even with that skill, I need about 4500 points a game to break even.

My buddies have been using Collector and Crafter 2 or 3, calling it "The Runner" class. The key is to farm the supply boxes as much as possible while still getting downs and executions. Then, as you craft, you give away gifts to your teamates constantly. They've got over 5k supplies in a single game pretty often.

You can give items away?

With Crafter 2. Every 3 items you craft gives you a random gift.
If you use Crafter 3, every two items you make gives you a giveable gift. You can't use the gift yourself.

The multiplayer really is unique. It has the coolest moments I've experienced in multiplayer since Max Payne 3. Flanking is a viable tactic. Following a downed foe to their teammates is a viable tactic.

That was awesome playing with you Gaffers the past hour. We did pretty well, it was a mixed bag, but tons of fun.

This game is so awesome! If anyone is up to play some more, I will be going back in in the next 20 minutes or so. Hit me up! "Filth_Flannigan"

This really helps. Thanks. Just need crafter 3 now.

Do you guys have any ideas for an objective/new mode? I want to post it on ND.com

One thing I can think of is a Captain Fall match, where you have to kill the designated target, while protecting your own. Infinite respawns until your captain goes down, in which case, you are in sudden death mode. To make sure the captain doesn't camp, he alone can collect supplies around the map, which are then given to everybody on his team automatically. So basically, it's an escort/protect mission.

Probably much too complicated to add something like CTF, without adding new resources, so I do think if anything, the objective mode will be based around a deathmatch variation of some kind.

I'd love some objective mode that emphasizes crafting and teamwork though. Not sure what ND can do. Maybe they can just make a free map pack and call it a day. I can play these two modes for a good while without getting tired, but more maps would be great.

Just waded into this after a good session of the singleplayer, only played a few games and I'm not amazing at it but it's still good fun. I like how drawn out the matches can become, feels like a war of attrition between the two factions, usually resulting in a firefight where most people die, then respawn and repeat. I was the last man standing in my first match, unfortunately my attempts to hide for the remaining minutes failed so I tossed out a bomb and died like a hero, goddamnit.

I kinda suck at multiplayer games but I think I'm a good team player (I spot, scavenge, revive when I can and don't like lone wolfing it) so if anyone wants to help out a newbie, PSN ID is the same as my username.

Clan wiped out in Week 8 (Day6). Need to vent. Fuck MP-Trophies.

We probably lost half of the matches we played, but it was a ton of fun regardless! Thanks for the games, and I'll hopefully see you online later.

I'm in love with the multy; i loved the sp too, but i think that the multy shines of its own light.
I was really missing something like this in my videogame time :)
Slow but with insane action burst, strategic and tactical but adrenaline driven.
Awesome work ND it seems that in this generation you can't stop to delight and surprise me!

Got all your friend request guys, thanks (anyone else can always hit me up if they want, see profile). I am currently very busy though so I won't be able to play much or very long in the coming week, but don't delete me just yet. Holiday is coming up lol.

I had this perfect 3 kills in university.

I through a smoke into the building, catching one guy. I shiv him from the front. Someone comes close to me to shoot me, I used my spiked plank to get an instant down. And than third person starting to shoot at me gets bowed twice before his next shot.

Results were 3 kills and 3 executions right after another :). I'll definitely keep this smoke + shiv + spiked melee tactic for future 2 enemy combat situations.

BTW playing now!

I'd like to see some type of coop added. I don't know if a traditional horde mode would work, but maybe 3 player story missions similar to Uncharted 2/3 (examples: infiltrate firefly camp and steal supplies, or maybe escape the sewers populated with infected.) I think these would be extremely fun and maintain the tone/tension established by the single player campaign.

I'd also like Survivors mode to be tweaked to be a true Survival mode, similar to single player survivor mode. Listen mode would be disabled, no loadouts, no armor or ammo purchases, and rounds extended to maybe five minutes. All players start with just a revolver with a few bullets. All crafting items and other weapons must be found from supply crates scattered around the map.

Also I'd love to play with some gaffers:

Usually play nights after 8pm pst.

I got both of my MP trophies first try. The key to getting the keeping your clan alive is selective and strategic selection of Missions. Don't just stick to your favorite missions the whole way through. The goal is to never have to get more than 9-15 of whatever the mission is for the T3 level. Take your worst (yet accomplish-able) missions early on and save the easiest ones for the last 3-4 weeks (the easiest seem to be Downs, Executions, and Special Executions). Obviously other people will have different strengths as weaknesses but the general strategy still applies.

I went with Semi-Auto, Hunting Rifle, and Shorty missions for the first few weeks. A couple Shiv missions after that, and then to Special Executions, Executions, and Downs. Also focus entirely on completing those missions as they matter a lot more than keeping your clan healthy (whether you clan is healthy or not a wipeout mission will kill them). Revive missions are fairly easy to accomplish as well, especially if you're solo queuing.

Add me if you're looking for someone to play with. Randoms are fucking miserable at this game.

Quote for my PSN ID.

Good fun and laughs with my fellow Swedish Gaffers and PUSHA-T

Sorry about my poor performance in some of the matches, but I was trying to get my 360 headset working on without success.

Also apologies to X-8BIT for not being able to fullfill his requests.

TLOU GAF IS BEST GAF.

More fun today. It is pretty cool when you start up a match with some fellow gaffers, you almost need to play together for 30 minutes or so to get a rhythm or chemistry. This afternoon, we started out slow, then started learning how to play with one another and started really competing with some very high leveled ballas.

I will definitely be back this evening for a few hours.

No worries, I've been playing pretty shitty today anyway.

What's the general consensus on the multi? What does it do well/poorly? I thoroughly enjoyed the Uncharted multis if that means anything.

Just played my first couple of games, did awesome in one, crappy in the other. Nice to have a game where it actually benefits to play as a team.

Feel free to add me: RavenholmDX

We fought a stacked team that was damn good. We were camping near the supplies and 2 people threw a smoke, then suddenly there were 2 guys who flanked us behind and killed us all.

Ok, the matchmaking is absolutely horrible. I was placed on a team with three guys with 0 weeks, no mics, against two guys with mics in their 23rd week in the second journey, a guy in his 17th week in his second journey and a 7 week guy. My teammates sprinted around the map the entire time and were practically begging to be killed, not offering me any help, and the opposing team moved closely together, so even if I downed two of them, the other two would kill me and revive the others. Game ended in a perfect score for them and due to zero supplies found, my formerly perfectly healthy clan now has 33 hungry people, eight sick ones and one dead guy. Thank you, matchmaking.

So yeah, if anyone wants to play with this lowly junior some time, that'd be great.

The chat room seems a bit dead for a game that just launched... If anyone wants a chat room invite quote this post to see the PSN ID for it and send a friend request. I'll send you a chat room invite the next time I log on. Try to keep the discussion related to mp/partying up, some people might not be done with SP.

The MP has so many awesome features and additions you hardly ever see in MP, really does make it very fun while keeping it nice and balanced.

Any idea how populated the MP is?
