The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered PS5 - DF Tech Review - A Worthy Upgrade?

Fucking ridiculous that Sony has the gall to ask $10 for minuscule visual enhancements that absolutely NOBODY would be able to point out when playing the game. I started watching the DF video and it was extremely hard to notice those teeny tiny differences even when they were pointed out on a zoomed in image. A slightly better shadow here, some additional grass there. It's fucking nothing.

So then don't buy it?

Ya'll find the weirdest shit to get angry about

In some scenes, the objects in the distance are less blurry. That's uhh.... about it.

It's a remaster with a notable amount of upgrades, plus new modes. All for $10 if you already own it.

Not sure what other Remasters have done that's so much better.
I was talking about the visual upgrades from a hardware pov.

If it's not needed (pointless as this is considering video games aren't a "need" anyway), you can skip it. That's the point.

A criticism is one thing, but bitchin' about need isn't diplomatic. It is just bitchin'.

Fair enough and I agree with you, but you can't tell what people should or not to complain about my dude.

The game is already done. The team has moved on to other games.

I really hope so.

OH because we're entitled to the update for free? This is a make money industry.

And thats how gaming industry is the cancer place it is now. All those MTX, lootboxes, bad business practices started with "you don't need to pay for it", "I don't mind" or " you're not entitled". You could re-use this " this is a make money industry" to basically any cancerous practice ever created.

They put time and effort into this remaster, and included a whole new game mode, and they're asking $10. Please explain to me how this is a "cancerous practice".

My dude, y'all are coming to a thread and complaining about need. Ultimately calling this a waste of time/money.

This irony cannot be lost on you.

But its a waste of time and money IMO, I not saying as a fact.

You guys need to stop be so defensive.

On PC this would have been just a regular, free game update. On PS it's a paid upgrade. Playstation gamers should be protesting against this idiocy instead of acting passive aggressively.

This game screams PS5 Pro.

It should be able to get around 100fps consistently (depending on CPU bottleneck) but that unlocked fidelity should be 60fps+.
Having just finished the Pt1 remake again last week. Its unlocked fidelity mode just isnt consistent enough, so really needs the Pro. This remaster though, should at least be far more playable in that unlocked mode until Pro arrives.

I'm talking explicit about accepting whatever it is because "money talks". And please spare me this 10$, the world is not about US. I can assure you it will not be cheap on my country.

what does that have to do with anything.
With this mindset, I would not be allowed to criticize anything... ever.
"Nobody needed that. Nobody".

The discussion is about need. You obviously don't. So, don't buy it. Wouldn't that be the simple solution?

Too subtle to notice the difference. Lucky you upgrade because of No Return and the Lost Levels and less because of graphics. Still they could have sneak in ray traced shadows here and there.

The funny part, I suppose. Is all these graphics updates are just a part of porting it to pc...yet they are charging for it to playstation customers.

Cant blame them though. People will happily pay and the shills will defend Sony with passive aggressive attacks if you call out the bullshittery

I do. I did needed that... but I needed something. This is almost anything...
Your logic is still very flawed and word catching

You know when a remaster falls short when people start pointing out food/beverage purchasing costs to defend the game. Y’all are incredible 😄

(Psst… it’s okay to say it’s a disappointing remaster. No one is going to revoke your PlayStation fan card)

People are weird with digital content. On the movie side of things, I see people waiting literally years to buy a movie they want because they refuse to pay more than, say, $8 and it's priced at $10... So they wait years to save that $2.

It's bizarre to me.
Wanted to get Five Guys for lunch today, and this is what the order came to. $21. of course fuck that, im gonna get me a $5 burger from mcdonalds but people are really weird about paying for shit. I bet its the Napster in us. We were all pirates back in the day torrenting games, music and movies in our teens, but i grew out of that when i turned 16 and started earning money. Even at $5.80 an hour minimum wage, i was able to afford ANY $50 PS2 game i wanted. Now kids in mcdonalds are getting paid $15 an hour and bitching about $10 DLCs which is basically what this is. I have put in almost 100 hours into GOW Valhalla, they gave it away for free, but i wouldnt have minded paying $20 for it which is basically what most DLCs go for. TLOU2's combat is sublime and while ND isnt as talented as SSM when it comes to level design, the combat design alone should warrant at least 10-20 hours. Compare that to a chicken bowl at chipotle which costs $10 nowadays or even a mcdonalds combo which also costs $10, and its obvious that when it comes to entertainment, gaming is an incredibly cheap proposition.

Just to confirm I'm buying this, but it would be nice if it was free and Sony made bank on the inevitable pc version.

What exactly do you want them to add? RTGI, RT Reflections and Shadows? Its a $10 upgrade like Death Stranding and Ghost of Tsushima. Neither game added those RT features.

The game is already done. The team has moved on to other games. no artist is going back to this game to redo the assets. No programmer is going back to this game to add support for RT. The reason why other games do this on console is because RT and higher quality assets were already generated by third party devs since PC is their primary platform. So porting those over to PS5 was relatively easy since it was all already there. Thats not the case with PS4 games.

Its disappointing that they didnt go back and give us the E3 2018 version, but it has nothing to do with laziness or lack of power in the PS5.
Ok so it has to do with the fact that any remaster is some kind of lazy port with upgrade any upscaling program oculd do.
Dude i do not know how much work it would take to add all the "next-gen" effects you are talking about.
I'd tend to think that having haptic feedback with ps5 controllers is something one must program support for. Why the devs choose to programm this and not RTGI or some other stuff ? Is it because it is really harder ?
Naughty dog has not release a game in years, maybe they had time to ask their devs to do more ?
Maybe they keep the real improvments for a remake down the line i don't know.
I'm asking if it's a PS5 problem because im waiting eagerly for GTA6 and as much as i know it will be limited by the PS5 output, i wish this output is better than "making ps4pro games work 4k60fps".

I don't care what any of you do with their money for fuck sake, and i won't judge your tastes. I defended the shitty resident evil netfixl adaptation on this very forum how could i judge any of you ?

no.
Your logic to apply "dont buy what you need" to a stuff others criticize and don't like.
If it was better, for sure it would be what I would want you know?

Anyway - 10$ upgrade for me maybe. I wanted to get the disc but either I will upgrade or wait for disc to hit the bin

I wonder what metric the $10 upgrade will count towards - GAAS, digital, not counted at all? Because I suspect many will just want the $10 upgrade but Sony will get the wrong idea of what gamers actually want

They cant take my £8 quick enough. But then I'm the same idiot who happily gave them £70 for the Pt1 remake.... I'm just glad they've revisited this and giving me unlocked VRR modes, FOV slider, haptics and adaptive triggers.

This makes no sense at all. You made a claim, I responded. You don't like my response. That's cool, but that doesn't make it flawed.

If you don't need the Remaster and are disappointed with its contents, you don't have to buy or upgrade to it. You've yet to point me in the direction of a real flaw in this thinking.

Nobody needs a remaster. The original game is 60fps.
Everyone would want a remaster if it was something significant.

Wasting time and resource remastering an early game... and not even make changes to be called 'remaster'.
Here we have TLOUS fanboys. You guys totally deserve this clown edition.

why do you give a shit, its a $10 upgrade for people who like the game and want extra content.

Thus, they should have taken more advantage of the PS5. I get that. Then what more should they have done?
I don't know what they could have done im a librarian working in humanities :messenger_grinning_sweat:
I understand now that my "lazy" comment was inflammatory.
I really meant "can we expect more or, is the PS5 hardware only capable of stuf like this ?"
I did not know that more than output, it was programming that enabled all the "next-gen" graphic effects.

But this, again, is your view. My reply is my view. Nobody needs any video game, but we buy what we like.

Thus..... if you don't like what's here, protect your wallet from it. :)

Well, what we have here, The Last of Us Remastered (PS4) all over again.

Absolutely terrible and pointless "Remaster" and cash grab for PS5 in comparison to Part I. I highly doubt that PC version will be much better as it is clearly the lowest effort PS4 port for PS5 with zero Part I features and upgrades in terms of foliage, scene density, lighting etc. and PC version for sure won't have that too.

I think they knew that it's not going to be on a level of Part I visually and decided to throw us a bone with a new horde mode and a bunch of cut levels - not worth the asking price on a physical disk at all. Ugh. I mean, original game looks amazing with all it's PS4 limitations and it's a much better game than Part I, but I didn't expect they'll do the same shit as they did with The Last of Us Remastered ~ 11 years later. There's literally zero reasons for me to get this version (even for a $1) and sell original, not to mention buy it >at full price< on Steam.

What an effin' disappointment.

It’s a disappointing remaster, I’ll be honest. Specially when the No Return mode is supposed to be the same action sequences from the main game just played out in some random order?

I’m getting it for the Fidelity VRR mode hovering around 40 and 60 fps which is all good with me.

To my eyes, Part I remake is now the better looking TLOU.

In the world of TLOU2 ironically enough, burritos are worth a lot more than $34. You just don't compare a luxury item like a video game to food.

On topic, this seems to perform better than Part I so I guess it's because its really just an enhanced PS4 port rather than a remake. Did they compare the graphics to Part I?

Which it should be, given it was tailored to the strengths of a much more powerful system. That a Remastered version of the sequel can even be put next to it is a testament to the original work from the 2020 PS4 version.

Looks like a small upgrade. But I got the PS4 version cheap ($5) and haven’t played it yet so unless I see a PC version this is how I’ll play it. Not now but some day.

yes, adding RT support to an engine is far more elaborate than adding haptics support.

You can definitely ask devs to do more. I just gave you reasoning to why other games add RT support and Sony games dont. Its already built in to their games whereas ND would be starting from scratch.
