The Mega-Cave Shooter Post, because they're totally awesome and sweet

Well I literally caved in. ;)
Just bought a 360 since bartsmit were doing a 10% off for game systems.
I somehow got 15% off instead, which makes it even sweeter. :D

I literally bought my 360 for Cave games and little else.
All the rest is bonus as far as I'm concerned.

Only just played Dodonpachi Resurrection for the past hour, but I already bought Guwange, Geometry Wars 2, as well as the DLC for Dodonpachi. Also have Deathsmiles right here as well as Mushihime-sama Futari.

Just ordered a Real Arcade Pro VX-SA Tournament Stick as well since the regular d-pad is serviceable, but doesn't quite feel right.

It feels so good to finally have taken the jump. Now I'm only hoping that Rising Star will bring out all the other Cave games as well. :)

If anyone likes to add me, my gamer tag is meppi64.

I just saw the request when playing Mushi. :D

Bought the black label half an hour ago and have been playing it since. Had to really look for it on XBLA, but found it in the end.
It's soooooooooooo much fun, especially in Maniac mode! :-O
God mode is a little too much for me though, although I do love the inclusion of it.
Something perfect to play if you're in a suicidal mood, or if you're feeling smug and need to be humbled a little. ;)

I don't know how to describe it, but these games just ignite something in me whenever I play them.
It's been a while since I played my PS2 imports, and somehow I always forget how I get this feeling whenever I pop some of these in.
I instantly remember exactly why I love gaming so much. Too bad this kind of gaming isn't appreciated in this day and age. But then again, I guess I can't really complain, seeing as how many of these games are out already.
And it really does give me hope to see RSG wanting to release even more titles in Europe.

I really hope they do very, very well for them. :)

So I finally got Daifukkatsu and my 360 red rings.

Unreliable piece of shit.

EDIT: And after restarting it more than a dozen times, it works. I've had this happen a couple of weeks ago. But when it started working again this time, it says that some Xbox 360 features are missing and that I have to update.

...well I'm happy it works for now, but it doesn't feel good...

That's one of the major reasons why I held off this long getting a 360...
Figure that the slims are a lot more reliable than the old ones, but still.
Also a huge reason for me going with a Pal one, even though I really want to go for the Japanese version.
But again, all the possible hardware problems and future headaches kept me from jumping on that ship. :-/

I'll add you tomorrow as I've got to leave for work soon. (night shift)
Really loving the game, although I had a very bad day today.
Seems like some days I simply can't play a Cave shooter, while others I feel untouchable.
Always been that way though, even during the Saturn days. ;)

Hopefully I'll Have ESPGaluda II and Pink Sweets by the end of this week as well, and hopefully my arcade stick comes in soon. So far it says "expected November 16th"...

My J360 red ringed last year, but it randomly started working again and it's been fine* ever since.

*it does freeze on occasion, which is extremely aggravating when I'm having a good run. I think I'm going to buy a new system for Christmas since it's not worth the hassle.

NCSX received some if their DoDonPachi shipment today. Hopefully I'll have my copy by next Friday. Looking forward to it.

Indeed. Mine just shipped. Excitement!

Next up Instant Brain/Dodonpachi.

Got the TLB clear in Akai Katana, with a 2.879b score. My current high is 2.901b, so I didn't even beat my record in a no miss run. Ugh. (And the TLB killed me twice because I had no idea wtf to do against him. Feels bad)

I've been trying to break 3 billion for 2 days now and no matter what I do, I always get 2.800~ clears. I really need to stop fucking up my scoring strategies and/or learn some better ones.

Good news for me! Still no e-mail signifying it shipped, however.

Was there a 3 billion achievement for AK Shin? Or are you just trying to rank up on the leaderboards.

Grats on the TLB destruction, guess it wasn't too hard for you. You ready for that no-nenshin run though??

Nah, the highest Shin achievement is 800 million I think. I'm just trying to rank up and get a score I'm happy with. The game's so hard though - the precision required to be good at it is ridiculous. Which makes me appreciate SIN's 7 billion world record even more. Guy is a god.

No-nenshin sounds fun (and hard), but I'm not going to try it until I get 3 billion+ in Shin. I'm starting to get obsessed. :\

Finally did it: 3,117,198,720 with Type 2.

God that was a pain. Had one bullshit death on the stage 6 midboss, otherwise it was a no miss until stage 7. Messed up a big scoring opportunity on stage 6 too... guess that stage went pretty poorly all things considered. Oh well, I'm still happy with 3.1 billion (and #9 on the leaderboard).

How do you get the TLB? any special requirement?

Hey, were are the Americans here buying Dodonpachi and who has the best price (that isn't Zavvi)?

I pre-ordered from dvd.co.uk
Before check out it was saying 23.99 but once you get to the final screen it updated to 19.99. Not sure if it's doing that anymore. And shipping was 1.29. Came out to about $34 plus $1 for foreign transaction fee.

Why not Zaavi?

Well, they're somewhat notorious for non-delivery/general sloppiness even in the UK (although I must say I have never had problems myself), so trusting them to send something to another continent is probably not the wisest of ideas.

If I ordered Dodonpachi for a US 360 do I have to do anything to play it on my system? I am sure you guys have answered this before....just wanted to be sure before I ordered

Yeah, I believe that slims are supposed to be more reliable.
My 360 have been feeling well for a bit more than four years though, which seems to be over the average lifetime of 360s. But still...

Thanks. It would suck to have to buy a new console, as I'm kinda tight on cash. :<

Anyway: Daifukkatsu is freaking beautiful.

Just pop in the disc.
You could need a EU Live account in case there's DLC (haven't checked that uet).

Played some more Akai Katana (Arcade mode) today. Got a 229m clear with Type 1 and a 226m clear with Type 2, which got me #4 and #3 on their leaderboards, respectively.

Guess I'll do some quick runs in Shin with Type 1 and Type 3 next. Might as well have the western record in every mode with every character. :D

DDP Resurrection shipped for me, too bad someone decided to steal my gamertag and buy a bunch of shit on it. MS says it could take up to 25 days to complete an investigation, and my gamertag has been frozen during the process.

My Zaavi copy of Xenoblade arrived quickly to Vancouver, Canada! So, I'm trusting them again with Daifukkatsu. I have heard the issues though... But I'm not gonna swear them off until they mess up with my order personally.

My copy of Daifukkatsu was shipped from Zavvi on Friday and arrived yesterday for anyone on the fence. I was expecting at least another week for shipping, but I'm not complaining.

edit: now to get some UK Allards so I can buy Black Label

Received my copy of DDP: R yesterday.

This game is pretty damn awesome. Loving the visuals and the music. I don't seem to mind the autobomb in 1.5 that much, I thought it would be a bigger problem for me. Scoring seems interesting and the hyper bullet-canceling is fun.

I also downloaded Black Label today.
Is this real life.

Impatiently waiting for my DDP Resurrection to arrive any day now :)

I've also been playing some Dodonpachi on Mame these days, and damn that game is super-addictive. Managed to break the 40 million barrier recently, still working on my 1cc though (last boss is a bitch). Really hope DDP:R is as good as that.

Which joystick would you guys recommend, mainly for 360 shooters? I've been playing Dodonpachi on our xarcade cabinet and the stick and buttons on that feel just right most of the time, although I'd prefer something with *slightly* more precision and smaller travel distance if possible.

Lol I'm ranked 9 in the leaderboards for Arrange A, too.

Edith: I prefer Seitmitsu sticks over Sanwa for shmups. Doesn't matter what case you have, the parts do the trick.

Edith2: nevermind I'm rank 6 now, got the two extends in the first stage but after that I fucked up. Arrange A is crazy fun.

I´m not a pro player by any means, but I use the HRAP EX-SE, which is lauded by a lot of players as the best for STGs and I concur; it helped me get better scores, survive longer, and to manage my first 1CC ever. It also works on PC and its great on MAME. Out of the box it is a really solid stick.

But I think any stick modded with Seimitsu parts will do the job just fine.

Nice, I'll look that up. Any alternatives in case I have trouble finding the EX-SE (amazon seems to be out of stock), or is it definitely "the one" joystick worth tracking down? :)

It is kinda gone. Probably have to buy it second hand or just buy an old HRAP (from a place like Arcade Shock) or newer VX-SA (from Amazon) and switch out th parts to Seimitsu. Gets kinda pricey doing that, though...$130 stick approaches $200.

+1 for the HRAP EX-SE. I got one a few months ago (on ebay), and immediately saw it as an upgrade over the Sanwa TE stick I had been using for years. The smaller/tighter Seimitstu stick is much nicer for more precise movements.

I like my TE plenty, but a friend of mine has an SE and I kind of want one. It would take some adjustment, I'd think.

Also, Euro Daifukkatsu is a separate leaderboard, right?

Yes. My score for Arrange A is 34.013.068.120 so far (Area 3). I need to learn how to hyper correct in stage 2 and 3. 85% of the Score is Stage 1 alone.

Got 2.5 billion in Shin with Type 1 and 2.1 billion with Type 3. I am not happy with that Type 3 score at all though. I had a run where I no missed up to the start of stage 6 with 1.9b points, but of course my fucking Xbox froze. Almost ripped the piece of junk off the shelf and threw it out the window.

Also went back and improved my old Zetsu scores. I had to learn the hard way that you really can't abuse the 'get hit with laser -> refill ninja meter glitch' in that mode because lasers do 2-3x more damage. Bastards.
