Not certain who might be interested, but I saw this and thought I'd share.

Theres an auction right now for a 100+ page artbook from Cave for the game "Ibara" right now on ebay at this link. I know Cave fans collect stuff from their favorite titles and I've seen this one pop up a few times here. Just thought I'd share this since its under $50 not counting shipping right now.

Happy hunting to whoever goes for this.

It's the same artbook Rancor sells for $ 40,- new on his site .

Nice of you to share though !

I'd never even seen it before. Nice to know theres a cheaper link out there for those interested. I gotta say after some research Ibara has some of the best music in any shmup ever. Right up there with eXceed Jade Penetrate Black Package which I adore the score of.

Wanna hear a good joke? Waste your time helping me! LOL!
pizzaroll is trying to force me to buy Akai Katana for the 360.

I have never purchased a SHMUP before, only lost quarters to them in a few arcades.

I don't even know why I'm seriously considering this purchase. At least it's cheap I guess.

Anyone know of a good spot I can get Euro XBL points for online? I finally wanna play my DDP Resurrection import but not without Black Label.
Paypal worked for me. Don't know if they still allow it, but it worked a year ago! No outside source required. You have to make a UK account though.

It's a great game. Or, if the little girls don't scare you away, Deathsmiles is the ultimate beginner's shmup and should be pretty cheap these days.

I didn't really like Akai Katana that much :-/

Maybe I needed to put some more time into it for it to click, but yeah. I mean, I enjoyed it, but it's pretty low on my list for Cave shooters.

Yeah, I pretty much told him that either one was good for a beginner. Akai Katana isn't particularly hard and has cool widescreen modes. Deathsmiles is really the best for beginners though probably, with the selectable difficulties and all. It lets people ease into each stage individually which is useful for beginners.

Are you playing Arcade/Origin or Zetsu/Climax mode? I really don't care for Shin/Slash mode myself, but it's pushed as the "main" mode of the port. :/

Cave even chose it for the demo and I ended up not liking it, which really turned me off the game for a while.

I didn't like the original mode very much. That, Ibara, and Dangun Feveron just never clicked with me. )=

I did enjoy the Slash mode quite a bit though. It's a huge improvement over the original Akai Katana.

Dangun Feveron on max speed is quite a rush. You need to give it some more time! As for Ibara, I wish Cave would stop pretending it doesn't exist and give it a proper port :/

Also complete opposite opinions on Akai Katana... weird!

Dangun feels so different from other Cave games. You could tell me a different studio made it and I'd probably believe it. Maybe I should give it another shot. Such a weird theme though...

Ibara's alright I guess. It just didn't seem magical to me. I've only played it on the PS2 port though, maybe that has something to do with it.

Slash and Orgin are quite different from each other. They really are two different games made with mostly the same pieces. I can definitely see liking one but not the other.

It's a pretty different game. It's good though, but it's definitely unlike anything else Cave has made. Did you play with the Uo Poko cat?

Yeah the PS2 port is awful, ugly interlacing that makes hard to see bullets even harder to see + like 0% slowdown accuracy apparently

Yep. I much prefer Origin/Climax. Climax is like a widescreen Black Label of Origin, doesn't feel like a console arrange to me even though it is.

I may come around on Slash eventually though (like I do with everything Cave except DFK 1.5 and Progear...), it's not bad, but I just don't like it as much.

Yeah, Uo Poko is such a spaz. I'm sure it's great for the pros though.

Tried some of the other ships too.

Dangun might be a good one to check out if I want something a little different from the usual Cave fare.

I played whatever the arcade version is. I think I skipped the other modes cuz they seemed mega complex, and I am stupid :(
I haven't played it in a while, but I think it goes something like this:

Slash in a nutshell:

use shot: get time
use laser: get orbs

(Point blank enemies to get more time/orbs.)

Orbs give you more katanas

Time gives you more, um, time to shoot the katanas

Fill up the meters then activate the ninja mode. You now get a free bullet cancel. The amount of bullets cancelled determines how many katanas you get, so do it in a good spot. Let a bunch of bullets build up then fire the katanas and rush into the explosion to grab the points. Rinse and repeat.

I have NO idea what any of this even means, lol. I mean, I'm sure I could figure it out eventually, but even that simplified explanation strikes me as kinda complex... especially when it comes time to put it into practice.

Either way, I'm still feeling pretty content not playing shmups after plowing through Mushihime. I don't care how easy it is, I like feeling kewl. Ever since I did that, I've felt like I could walk around in leather pants and put cigarettes out on girls' faces.

Yeah, I was going to say, don't play with the Uo Poko cat. People on the internet will tell you to do it because omg score (any worthwhile scoreboard will separate characters anyways), but it's really not necessary and can detract because of how it plays. I prefer the regular ships.

Also the sound the cat makes is really annoying!

Yeah, it's hard to explain, but once you get it, you'll be like "Oh okay, that's actually kind of intuitive."

I love that feeling. You should always feel like a boss after beating a shmup. \(>_<)/

I'm also taking a break from these games right now. I was getting way too addicted to these games; playing 30+ hours a week on top of working 40 hours a week, and it was starting to be a bit much.

I finally went and got Akai Katana a week or so ago, it's probably my favorite Cave shmup on the 360, it's not as lengthy as Deathsmiles and the controls for it just feel smooth

I'm getting the impression that Cave is pretty much done with their iOS releases.

No news of any imminent release and the last release was the Black Label version of their previous release. Quite a slowdown this year.

I also prefer to play Slash mode. It's kinda like ESP Galuda but you have to fill 2 meters but also get 2 cancels.

In ESP Galuda you fill 1 meter (gems) and switches mode to cancel bullets into gold. In Akai Katana you fill 2 meters, switch mode to cancel bullets into katanas and then shoot the katanas to cancel bullets into gold.

so satifying

Speaking of Dangun, do any of the other Cave games have a time attack mode?

Any shmup > OE
Is it weird that despite all the bad things I've heard about OE, I still have it sitting on my shelf? F it... I think I'll just play it tonight, and if it's as bad as everyone says, I'll just sell it. At least at that point I'll know. I do like the music I've heard from it, though.

I'm hooked on DDP:R and Espgaluda II for Android, even with my phone's small display and pretty unresponsive touch screen. This is the first time I've played them, but they might be my 2 favorite Cave games so far. Any recommendations where to import for 360? It seems like these two just went out of print all of a sudden.

You don't need to import JP Resurrection, the PAL version works on all western consoles and it's cheap. As for Esp2, you can find it easily on ebay (just don't get the limited edition cause it's region locked).

Anybody have one of the new iOS devices with the bigger/taller screen?

Curious how the Cave games appear? Do they now have black borders on the top and bottom? How do they play now, holdfactor? I use my left hand for moving and am concerned I'm going to be "reaching more" with my thumb.

Moving back to the states next month and will be getting a new iPhone. Not sure if I should just go for the older 4S instead of the new one.

I have no idea, but I don't see why you wouldn't just get the 5. It's not like we're looking at CRTs vs. those newfangled LCDs here.

Any games that don't support the iPhone 5 resolution will simply be letterboxed.

Cave seems good about updating their games though, but I wouldn't expect anything from them beyond fancy boarders to fill in the holes.

I could see the extra space being useful if you can set it all to the bottom of the screen.

I dunno, looking at pics it seems a bit awkward. Like I'd be reaching. I've got a very specific way I hold the phone now for the Cave games...even the headphone jack on the bottom of my Touch throws me off a bit (since I use headphones all the time).

Yeah this is what I'm hoping for. Did a little mockup to show how much extra space there'd be if you set the screen size to maximum (I currently play on small or medium cause the space, ignore the buttons cause the DDP screen is from the iPad one):

I definitely use the free space on the bottom for thumb, getting it off the screen. Play at a smaller screen pushed up. If the 5 will let me do that, and use the dead space I'd be all for it.

No, we don't.

So they are in contact whith another publisher... I guess the simple fact that RSG isn't the only one interested in their games is good news.

Kandrick

GAF's Ed McMahon
Simultaneous release ? That's interesting... Especially since they are talking with another publisher.

I wonder if they could just get Microsoft to publish their games.

So I've started to systematically go through all my Cave shooters on iOS (playing on a 4th gen iPod Touch... really hoping we get that iPad Mini next month). First up is DDP DOJ... the PS2 version ripped me a new one back in the day. I got decent at it, but it still was a game that intimidated the hell out of me. Dat bullet speed. :p

I'm playing through each one starting on the lowest difficulty and working my way up through all of them, focusing on 1CC'ing each. Novice gets me familiar with the enemy patterns themselves, Normal gets me used to some of the basic bullet waves and rhythms, and Hard is where I start running into some problems in later stages. It's been a good approach for me. In the past I've just put it on Hard or Hell, and on console, just left it at default (which is Hell on iOS in most cases). I don't have the kind of time to dedicate to game mastery these days, so being able to see the entire loop of a game, and being able to focus on things like art, animation, and music has been really cool as opposed to just focusing on blue and pink things. :)

And I still haven't cracked open Otomedius. LOL That'll have to wait.
