I for one have seen everything ever, and can safely say that it was earth all along, Bruce Willis was dead the whole time, they were the same person, he was his father, and the part where that guy dies was really cool / shit.
I'm sure if somebody had enough time on their hands they could find the slightest plot hole in any and all interesting recent stories, and post them in quick, condensed succession allowing for maximum spoilerage of anyone curious enough to click the thread.
Like a wave, 1956 would get hit by the change first (however miniscule or unnoticeable it may be), then 1957, 58, 59..and on and on and on...82, 83, 84, to 1985.
And as for your theory of the ripple effect taking a week, then why does Doc say (and we see) that the normal 1985 would instantly change around Jennifer as she slept. She was still asleep when Marty got back to her.
Yes we see Marty's brother and sister start to disappear in the photo, but this isn't due to your ripple effect, it's due to the chance of his young parents kissing (and their future together starting) getting more and more less likely.
