Hughes notches up his maiden century with two consecutive sixes.

This kid has balls the size of grapefruit. :lol

Next-gen Matthew Hayden has been found.

Australia 0/169. Scoring at a limited overs runrate.

True that. Australia was looking very similar to the Gooch-era of England for awhile, and still somewhat is.

If Michael Hussey does not post a ton this tour, someone show him the backdoor.

At home after the greatest Ashes series of all time. Their pride and balls were on the line and it made for a very shitty series, anyone who was hyping it up forgot to get set for massive disappointment.

Yeah but that same team also won 16 test matches straight. Selectors always have to weigh up the hard decision on whether to blood youth but who would you have replaced 3 years ago?

Our senior players were Gilchrist, Warne, McGrath, they earned the right to play as long as they wanted. Martyn walked when he saw his time was up and Langer retired on his own terms. Hayden is the only one that really held on too long.

I think the selectors have performed a pretty good balancing act in a very political environment. If the Australian "down period" is contained to merely one miserable summer at home, then the selectors are vindicated IMO. If we can beat South Africa in South Africa while "rebuilding on the run", then the signs are very, very promising.

I wonder what that bloke that posted in this thread calling me a "deluded Aussie" when I said South Africa and Australia are the clear two best test nations has to say at the moment.

Needs to learn the difference between form and ability.

Edit: Hughes finally holes out to gully for 115. Great knock.

You'd think the benefit of the doubt has to go with Katich there. But that's another thing about the referral system. What if Bowden initially gave that out? Looking at the pictures, there's not exactly 100% proof that Bowden is wrong, yet the benefit of the doubt goes with the umpries decision.

It completely goes against the laws of cricket over the last 100 years, that the benefit of the doubt is with the batsman. I think the trial period has been good, but once it's over, let's get rid of it.

i couldnt agree more. his high average was only resultant in his higher number of no outs and hasnt been contributing consistently for the past year

Is it just me or is Morne Morkel a pretty bloody average player?

For a bloke talked about as a future star, he isn't showing a hell of a lot.

He's pretty tentative, but we're trying to get the shine off the second new ball at the moment.

Australia 0/125 at lunch.

Dream start. Hughes is dominating.
You guys probably get a lot of these posts:

I came in here not knowing anything about cricket and wanted to see what kinds of discussions you're having. Then I read the above post. 0/125... dream start? Australia... dominating? Lunch??!

Oh, man. I'm heading to Wikipedia.

4/303 at stumps.

Runrate slowed in the final session after the wickets of Clarke and Katich. Easily Australia's day though.

New to the thread, American who supports the windies and loves all spin bowling

Too bad that wicket fell right before tea. Might have been a little excitement. I wish Benn was in the squad, was enjoying watching him in the previous matches.

Anyone got a good site for torrents/youtube highlights of SA v Oz?

Do it, get hooked on cricket then when someone asks you what you are doing just say "watching the game" and you can sit there for bout 8 hours a day up to 4 days in a row.

Can't seem to find any apart from a video of the two sixes Hughes hit to bring up the century.

smith gone for 2-3 weeks and now kallis is retired hurt as well. Hit in the chin by another johnson bouncer and plenty of claret flowing.

Jeez that was a deadly bouncer from Mitchell Johnson.

I am a massive Kallis fan and its not satisfying to see him dismissed in that way (Paul Harris, Harbhajan Singh or Paul Collingwood on the other hand and I would cackle like a schoolgirl). That ball really opened his chin up.

How good was the ball that got Boucher though!

Mitchell Johnson is a deadly bowler, glad I always had faith in him, unlike some of you. ;)

duminy with a 50.

there's an interesting correlation with the debuts of both duminy and hughesy. in the first 3 innings each batsmen played, a duck was scored on the 1st innings, a 50 in the 2nd, and a century. now howzat!?

You would think Grandstand could pick are more flattering picrute for Steyn

But eh, whenever i see him during a game he looks incredibly pissed off or is about to break into tears :lol

See, I'll happily admit that Johnson is a great bowler now. I don't know why it took him 2 years to realise that if he stopped bowling wide rubbish and got an inswinger, he'd be deadly. He seems to have dropped his pace down, which I think is the reason for the swing. Instead of bowling everything at 145kmph +, he's dropping some down to high 130s, and those are the ones swinging. You can see that with the ball he got Amla, the seam wasn't perfectly straight, but it wasn't 150kmph, so it swung.

Also, with MacDonald - I still think he needs to improve his batting to warrant a place in the side. If he went back to Victoria and averaged 40+ over the next couple of Shield seasons, I'd bring him in at 6 when Ponting and Hussey leave. Ponting/Hussey out, Ferguson/MacDonald in. But as it is, I don't think he's worth picking over a specialist bowler. What are they gonna do when Clark comes back?

Anyways, hopefully we can knock off Steyn quickly and get back into batting. If we can squeeze out 250, we should have no troubles wrapping up the series with the way the pitch is playing.
