Only took 3 Peter Siddle balls to knock Steyn and Ntini over.

Duminy would be spewing.

Ponting didn't enforce the follow on. Good decision.

Probably the smartest thing he's done all summer.

Smith retiring hurt was a shame but there's no doubt that Australia have been absolutely dominating in this series. Either South Africa have got cold feet at home or the criticism has worked its way into the Australians properly. Even Michael "Vice-Captain Flop" Hussey managed to pump out a few runs.

Hughes with back to back centuries in just his second test match.

Amazing.

Youngest player in cricket history to score two centuries in one match.

Not wanting to take anything away from an amazing Australian performance, Hughes in particular, but South Africa's batting lineup has been looking significantly flat this series. Perhaps its due to Smith's lingering injury keeping him from really leading the charge, a lethargic approach to the series burdened by home pressure and overconfidence or lesser comparative matchplay since the two sides have met. However - whatever the cause - Australia may have appeared vulnerable over the last summer with poor performances against India in the sub-continent and a series loss against South Africa at home, but they've proven this far into the series that they are still a world class team which requires maximum effort to be outmatched.

Dave will be chafing; Phil could be the new "Hughesy" if he keeps this up for the next year or so.

What a huge day for the Australians, awaiting the highlights but can not believe the Saffers let Hughes get back to back 100s.

What a reversal of fortunes, who would have thought the same a few weeks ago...:D

damn this guy is a killer batsman at only 20. aussies with a good upperhand which needs to be backed by their bowling.

holy macaroni at tim southee for conceding 105 for his wicketless 10 overs against india. when mick lewis conceded 114 runs, he never played a game again

Hughes = legend.

Nothing makes me happier than having an absolute gun youngster, especially when everyone was playing the "wah wah, Australia is too old" card. You can tell the South African commentators absolutely HATE it that we've got a brilliant young guy.

It's ridiculous that he's my age. I'm playing park cricket and he's belting hundreds against South Africa. :(

Hughes brings up his 150 with a 6 off the worlds highest ranked bowler.

Loving this shit. :lol

Finally gets out for 160. Damage already done. :D

Ponting declares with a lead of 545.

5 and a half sessions to get 9 wickets.

South Africa need to get 137 runs to outscore Phil Hughes, before they can even think about chasing down Australia. :lol

That dropped catch by Marcus North has really hurt us.\

Kallis steaming along now.

South Africa a very good chance of saving this test match.

Kallis and de Villers are the new roadblocks - don't see Australia taking SAf out due to the bowlign attack being dented by injury.

It's also become more of a batting pitch, and with luck SAf could draw the game, and perhaps win (wishful thinking with 300 runs in arrears but the Australian bowling attack looks a bit toothless now)

Everything hinges on the new ball in the morning.

Australia really needs to take two wickets with the new ball in the first hour or South Africa should be able to hold out.

aussies need to destroy kallis and de villiers very early and kill the middle order early if they are to have a chance. like the saffers should be able to get 300+ in roughly 90 overs weather permitting if the middle order scores big and fairly quick. i wonder if smithy will bat again and chances are that north may be dropped for mcgain

you with the saffers for this one timmy?

A win would be magical, but I wouldn't mind the draw either. Heh, Clarke keeping the dream alive - Kallis dropped again!

Edit: Third time's the charm, Ponting gets Kallis in the slips. Just what Australia needed.

johnson with the breakthrough and kallis out for a agonising 93. seems like a draw or an aussie win is the most likely outcome. not convinced saffers can score at 4 an over to get the win atm

3.3 runs an over for the win if my calculations are right. Doubt Duminy and AB de Villiers can shape the 200+ run partnership required, though, even if they both get centuries. Draw most likely.

Edit: de Villiers gone for 84. It's all survival from here.

How could you be playing for the win one wicket away from the tail? Four and a half hours to survive for the draw.

Edit: Duminy gone. Desperate stuff here, indeed.

play with a negative attitude and you're bound to lose. might seem impossible but some of these guys seem to have a lack of pride. now that duminy is gone, these guys havnt got a chance in hell unless bad light stops play

Need to knock these bastards over at least an hour before the close of play. Otherwise Smith will start having delusions of grandeur again!
