The Nintendo Switch has become the system people love to love

I love my switch. It's a great console and feels very premium. I definitely don't think it'll be a popular as the Wii, mainly because of the £100 extra price tag compared to that.
I really want Mario kart 8 on the switch. Just need to sell my zelda BOTW Wii u version to pay for it though. Suggestions of the best place to sell?

but it's the only solution to out of the box multi-player. Pro-controller or wait for the Dpad accessory which I'm is coming at some point.

That's cool and all but I don't play locally and if I did I would respect my friends more than giving them a gimped little half controller that wouldn't work for over 50% of today's games.

I love the split joycon scheme (one in each hand), but I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't love them more with a proper dpad and proper triggers.

Just press ZL to toggle between the two states.

That would be really bad in a game like Sunshine. Just release the GCN joycon

Absolutely. Any FPS with good local multiplayer would be a joy to play like this. Like Timesplitters or Metroid Prime Hunters or such.
I'm crossing my fingers for rainbow six siege. I think it should be possible technically and Ubisoft seems like is staring to play attention to the switch sales so... it's possible!

This is why, and why people buy Mario Kart again. 5 hour layover in JFK at an airport lounge with the wife who NEVER wants to play games was willing to pass the time with some rounds of Mario Kart and now Puyo Puyo Tetris. The instant conversion to multiplayer is seamless, amazing, and built in without any extra hardware. Once your start playing and someone sees they can jump in with no added work they become much more willing to participate. Easily sides right into my backpack.

I like the face buttons, they work really well. Do you have the Switch?

I mean, pics won't do justice. They are pretty good buttons, Bront.

D-pads suck anyway, it was good in NES and maybe SNES, but after that it became outdated. ***
They're pretty good buttons, I haven't tried a 2D platformer with one, though.
I imagine it's not as ideal but it's pretty good for something like Zelda or Puyo Puyo

I played Shovel Knight entirely using the left joy cons face button "DPad" and it felt comfortable to use. I didn't once wish for a proper DPad. I swear the negative comments about the left joycon DPad here on Neogaf are very overblown. I don't find it bad at all.

what did you do for the other 2 hours when the battery ran dead!?

(youre totally right, im completely taken with my switch...)

i just played some rounds of puyo with my wife. this is not a normal thing to do

This thing has been huge for me. I havnt even booted my PS4 up since I bought my Switch on launch. At times, I just pick it up.. press the menus and stuff and watch the beautiful craftmanship that is the NS.

Sometimes I wish I had a longer commute to work...and I hate traveling :p

Switch is a very young console who many advocates act like has got 5 years under its belt.

Life long Nintendo obsessive, here, but people need to give this thing time to make whatever mark it's gonna make.

Haha, they have these amazing things called wall outlets. Even better they sell portable energy in a box now, it's amazing! (;

I agree with you, but also I haven't seen positivity like this around a Nintendo console in a long ol' time. Even the 3DS we love these days had some of the most negative press I've ever seen in that first year.

Well sure. That's true of any console. Still, it's not an irrational stretch to look at the initial adoption rate, the quality of titles, and the viral nature of a portable home console and understand why people seem to love it enough to gush.

The above is not a guarantor of mega-success, but thinking that the potential is strong here is not really overreacting.

There's a demo for Master Blaster Zero. The D buttons work surprisingly well. It would be cool if Nintendo released an SNES controller for Switch Virtual a console.

I'm a bit worried that the excess of Nintendo Switch threads will cause a backlash from people that don't own it. Like, I like it and i think it's a bit too much, lol
Any blunders like a lackluster e3 could hurt it by giving them ammunition.
Hope it keeps performing well, in any case.

Wonder if they'd be willing to bundle some SNES themed switch joy con/dock with a couple of VC games. Could be smart.

Even if if Nintendo had a good E3 people would still try to find something bad about it.

Impromptu drunk Mario Kart tournament. Like 30 people showed up, half of which I'd never met and they brought pro controllers and all kinds of stuff. It was incredible.

This is in Alabama of all places too. Loving this device and the positivity that surrounds it.

People that don't like the Switch/Nintendo would create "ammunition" of thin air if they needed to lol

This just makes me miss college. Switch will be huge in college campuses.

I think what you are seeing is already the backlash. The backlash to the extreme negativity many on GAF spat out at the Switch before it was released.

When you experience this, it's hard not to love the Switch:

You know, the ability to do something like this almost drove me to buying the first (and only) Switch I have seen available, even if it would have only been five people playing. The only notable reason I didn't pick it up was because I already told myself last year I wouldn't buy one until at least November. Soon, though. Soon.

Switch is the first Nintendo console I haven't had at launch since the N64 (when I was 5 years old). I didn't buy it this time because the Wii U had a disappointing first year and I wanted to avoid that.

This is kind of like seeing an ex a year later and they've lost 50 pounds, got their dream job and are seeing someone significantly better looking than you.

I get the apprehension. Even the 3DS had a terrible launch and wasn't worth owning till the end of its first year. Wii U owners had to "beta" test the system on top of having very little to play. Surprised Switch avoid both, I'm guessing delaying the launch from last November to March allowed it to release with very few issues.

Does anyone else find themselves wanting games on the Switch they wouldn't normally buy? What I mean is, I want NBA2K18 and FIFA for their Switch experience. I'd never in a million years buy them on my PS4 or Xbox, but I find the idea of playing them wherever I want with whoever wants to play just very appealing. And it's not because I'm starved for games, I'd argue I have too many as it is!

I've always loved Nintendo 3rd party sports games, until they go babby. The madden wii games made me actually want to play Madden instead of 2k, with the ability to throw and run with the Wii mote. The fifa and madden Wii U versions allow hot routes on the fly by drawing on the screen. I really want a retro co-op mode for fifa and whatever other games they bring over, where it's a USF2 style upport of the 98 series for the switch. Madden 98, NHL 98, hell just gimme an arcade of those games and I'd be happy.

Yeah kinda. I bought 8 Switch games in the past 2 months and I probably bought 3-4 total last year.

And I'm finding myself curious about games like I am Setsuna and Disgea which I really never would've had interest in on a stationary console or PC. And yeah I'm definitely not starved for games either, I already have a bit of a backlog.

For AAA third party games not really. I have a PS4 for those. They would look better, arguably have more features and have a much larger community. Sure I can't poop and play or give tiny controllers to friends. And Nintendo is going to start charging for online play. That is even more insulting than what they charge for Switch accessories.

What I do want at this point is remakes of the great Wii or Wii U games and even DS games if they can make it work. Strip out all the useless motion control or stylus nonsense and make it work on the glorious Pro Controller. I can't get over how awesome the thing is. It's perfect size. It's got asymmetrical sticks and nice large D-Pad and buttons. Blows the Wii U Pro out of the water.

I wouldn't mind if Nintendo pulled a Sony and MS at this point in their Switch release and just re-release every great game they had on previous systems. I can play those while they work on a proper Metroid, Starfox, and hopefully a Paper Mario. But this is Nintendo, they are slow at doing anything and don't listen to their fans.

Just took the switch on a 2 week work trip that was book ended by 2 14 hour plane trips and I couldn't be happier with the purchase. This is the best system for a working person ever created. I had a couple of quick Puyo Puyo and Fast RMX multiplayer sessions with some lapsed gamers (>35 year olds) who all said they were going to get one after just one play session.

The difference in gaming with switch vs gaming on VR (my job) is night and day. One takes 5 seconds to start to play the other takes a few minutes of setup, is finicky as hell and not polished at all.

Word. I'd take my Switch on trips. It would definitely help pass the time. How was the battery life during your gaming sessions? I think that is the best way to use the little controllers, just quick multiplayer on the little screen.

That's true with every handheld for me. 90% of my 3DS games and a good chunk of my Vita library are stuff I'd never even give a second glance to on consoles. Handhelds tend to have much lower quality, less diverse and smaller selections of games than non-Nintendo home consoles so I can't be as picky about what I play. But they're also a hell of a lot more convenient so I get far more opportunities to use them than any of my other systems. That's also why emulation/CFW is so important on portables.

Im just worried they will be gimoed versions due to the hardware weakness and EA overall incompetence at handling these things.

Switch is still no replacement for an Xbox/PlayStation/PC imo.

Yup I was gonna make a thread about how the switch is making me play games I'd normally ignore on a home console because the portability factor makes it way more appealing. Like I played Skyrim on my PC before and thought it was dull but playing it on switch means I can lay in bed before going to sleep and wander around the game and explore. Having these games portable really makes them more desirable.

Knowing EA they are gonna fuck it up.

This is a given.

It's a safe bet that aside from lacking visually, Fifa 18 will be lacking basic features of other versions.

And it will cost more.

It's a tough sell, but tbh I can see it selling pretty well just because of the portability factor.

Hopefully then T2 delivers a solid version of NBA2k that sells well to provide a good counterpoint to EA's self sabotage. You'd think EA would've learned from their opportunity squandering Wii days but I guess not.

I've got Zelda and Mario Kart for the Switch and zero games for my PS4 or Xbox One so far in 2017. but I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything. There are a few PS4 games I'd like but my feeling is they can wait while I enjoy my Switch.

How will Fifa cost more? Do you expect them to sell it for $70? lol

You're the minority. Get a pro controller.

I love me some Siege, but I can't see it happening without being seriously toned down.

It already runs at 540p with temporal filtering to upscale to 1080p on PS4 to achieve 60FPS.
I just can't see it running on Switch at 60FPS with serviceable image quality, and 30FPS would really ruin the feel of the game.

Plus the lack of voice chat on Switch would take away so much from the game on top of that.

(I'd still triple dip and buy it though).

No. The dpad is apparently not very good for 2D directionals and it's $70. It does nothing for me the joycons can't do, and in split mode they're infinitely more comfortable than a regular controller. I'm really trying to see the point of the Pro controller but it seems pointless tbh.
