That would be really bad in a game like Sunshine. Just release the GCN joycon

You're the minority. Get a pro controller.

Minorities unite! The milking controller is good for travel but that's about it. I guess uniting them in the piece of plastic the Switch ships with is decent. I got a Pro and love it. Too bad they $75+

The lack of analog triggers seems like a huge over site though.

This fear mongering over the Pro Controller dpad needs to stop imo. Many people, I would wager most, have had zero issues with the dpad, so people should stop making definitive statements like every single one is terrible. It's like that thread about the Dock 'inevitably' scratching the screen.

This dpad nonsense has got to stop. It works perfectly in-game. As far as I can tell this whole thing comes from someone using the test-menu under options, where it never shows up+right or down+left, always the one press (down, up, left, right). I'm playing many games including KOF and PuyoTetris without issues. Never a wrong press. I would think I would at least get a few accidental auto-downs in Tetris if this was true. And I have 4 pro controllers.

If you have a faulty dock, it is indeed going to inevitably scratch your screen, unless you use a screen protector. So yes, it is fine if people complain about it, because it is indeed a major flaw having in mind that you're supposed to be constantly putting the switch in and out of the dock. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUZ-Icqhemw

The Switch is a great device and I hope it ends up having a big catalogue and selling great, because it deserves it, but stop with this defensive state and acting like anyone who complain about its flaws is a liar, its a great device, but it's far from perfect.

I haven't tried the pro d-pad but it doesn't look as bad as some people put it tbh.

I wish the Joycon dpad buttons were slightly closer and weren't clicky, but other than that yeah, they work fine once you get used to them.

The name of the thread suggests ALL Docks WILL scratch the screen. That's what I'm talking about. I never said people are lying and shouldn't complain. Jesus. And you want to talk about people being defensive?

Still think nintedo would be much better becoming multiplatform. Just imagine how many copies of they would have sold of breath of the wild if it was avialable on PC, PS4 and Xbone.... Definitively closer to ten-twenty million copies instead of 3 million copies.

That said , the hardware is pretty cool. Not a huge fan of the controller, but it's pretty neat to be able to play console quality gaming on the go and to dock it when you get back home. Not a gamechanger, since I've had a PSP in the past and PS Vita did give you similar quality experiences on the go. That said, the fact it's a main console that also can be used as a handheld is a huge plus.

Still, the console does feel pretty nice and it does have potential. Hopefully Nintendo can bring back third party though , otherwise I feel it might be stuck being yet again that mandatory console you buy just for exclusive nintendo first party...

As always, this dumb argument is technically true for all first parties and all first party games. Sigh.

20 million copies in two months would have been pretty epic!!! Nintendo, what were you thinking?

I haven't used the dpad much except in Zelda. Seems fine to me. Also, the Pro is much much better than anything they previously made. The Wii U controller had small ass buttons and a small ass dpad. The new one on the Switch Pro model is so much better, love the chunky buttons and dpad.

In the time that thread was made it wasn't known why the docks were scratching the screens, and since there were a whole lot of people with the problem (because it wasn't an isolated case, there were lots of faulty docks) people just assumed that any dock would scratch the screen because of a design flaw. It's not that the guy who made the thread was looking to boycott the Switch as you make it seem, you know, he just wanted to warn the other people with the swtich to not dock it until they got a protector for their own good, and he did right.

I don't know what's defensive about my post, I'm just arguing that people did good complaining about the docks scratching the screens. They had all their right to do so, because it is a major flaw.

Meh, I'm a bit salty, honestly. As much as I love my Switch the D-Pad of the Pro Controller is way too sensitive for my taste, messes up my Tetris games by doing accidental hard drops all the time to the point where I started playing with the joy-cons instead. Now I wonder how it'll fare on USFII since I expected to use it a lot on this before buying one. Great controller otherwise though but I expected a lot more out of that D-Pad.

Was it reported to be an official, replaceable defect anyway? Or is this just a design issue? Did people sent back their Pro Controllers and got a 'good' D-Pad version after that? All the D-Pads I tried (3, mine and friend's) on the calibration screen had the same thing.

At the time the thread was made, there were not a lot of people. The wording was wrong. There still isn't a lot of people compared to how many actual owners are out there. I mean I appreciate the thread and it made me order a protector immediately which is good, but I feel the title could either have been different from the start or at least been changed by a mod later down the line.

Why do you feel the screen scratching thread needs to be downplayed with a title change? It's good that it got people to prioritize protecting their screen; yourself included.

Outside of the GAF bubble you've no idea how many people may or may not be experiencing scratched screens.

Dunno if it's good it pushing people to buy a €30 accessory that's wholly unnecessary. Good for the manufacturers of screen protectors maybe.

I think this scratch thing was a very good marketing from some screen protector companies. Unnecessary at least for the Switch.

Wholly unnecessary? The whole point of that thread was that it is indeed COMPLETELY NECESARY to use a screen protector in your switch. The screen can be scratched so easily (because it is made of plastic) and the dock itself, where you are supposed to be putting the switch in and off all the time can scratch it too. If it isn't the definition of a necessary sceeen protector I don't know what it is.

Also, if you spend 30€ in a screen protector is because you want to. You can get one for less than 10€.

I don't know who anyone can really say that a screen protector for the switch is "unnecesary" and marketing for screen protector companies and keep a straight face while doing it.

I didn't notice any marketing from screen protector companies. They were selling because it's common practice to protect your screen these days. Glass screens on smart phones are very common anymore, and given Switch's dock situation they're a good choice
for that as well.

I paid $10 for a glass protector. That's the smallest expense when you factor in memory cards, a case, and extra charger. Especially considering it's helping protect your $300 device.

Nice stealth post there.

Also you do know the same can be said for Sony and Microsoft first party exclusives.

Nintendo is better off being a first party developer a lot more rather than third party.

I have yet to see a Switch in person. They never have them in stock in any store and they do not have any demo kiosks anywhere.

I'm not really involved in a gamer community in real life, so I'd never come across one. It's frustrating. I'm sure if I just held one in my hands for a minute, I'd be sold. But alas, Switches are a secret to everybody it seems.

I don't feel the strong burn for one. I already own BOTW and MK8 (and Blaster Master and Shovel Knight on 3DS) on WiiU. Maybe after Splatoon 2 hits I'll feel more compelled. But really only Snipperclips interests me right now, so that's good. I can wait.

The title is wrong. It's not inevitable that your screen gets scratched by your Dock. That's all I'm saying.

This console just sells itself by being out in the open. Everytime I jump on the bus to work and boot up Zelda I can feel everyone watching in awe, and I've even had a few people ask what it is and if they could try it. You done good Nintendo.

I think such bitter posts is the definite proof that Nintendo Switch is heading toward long term success.

When you are about to make a post like this, imagine instead that this was a Sony thread, and that you are about to write that you think Sony should go third party. Then think about what kind of reaction you would get. After that is in your mind, edit your post accordingly.

Idk I know the other people with the controller and all have issues. It's not a good dpad. Will never bother you if you don't play games that need it though, but I literally can't play Tetris w mine. Not fear mongering, it's a sad frustrating fact.

No screen protector here. No scratches. "Inevitably" my ass.
My dock scratched mine, so... Luckily I had a screen protector on it and that's all it scraped. I replaced it with a tempered glass one and it's been aces.

Also, the my Pro controllers dpad is ass like in the videos. I probably should return it, but I haven't played anything that needed it too much (only have Zelda).

I three starred the game going between the joycon and pro pad, both worked fine for me.

For those without screen protectors, take a look at your screen on an angle with light shining on it. Also, take a look at the back of your Switch.

Yeah there's a lot. I'm sure there's good ones out there of course, just some manufacturing bs screwing up a bunch. My personal opinion is just make sure you're getting it from a place with a good return policy because the rate of bad ones seem to be relatively high.

That's awesome, not sure what game you're talking about, but it seems like you got one of the good controllers.

I also hate screen protectors and will most likely never get one. I also don't put cases or screen protectors on my phone.

Your phone is much harder to scratch than the Switch. I never use screen protectors on my phones and I've never scratched one in my life, but for the switch I prefer not to take risks with the plastic screen and the dock.

I'd advice anyone with a switch to buy a tempered glass for it. It's not lile they are any expensive anyway.

You can't even tell there's a screen protector on if you use the glass ones. The plastic ones are junk, which I'm guessing is what everyone thinks of.

The truth is you don't know one way or another, considering the system's only two months old. We should have a thread in five years or so to see how people without screen protectors made out.

I doubt any of them will have a pristine screen unless they bypassed using the dock.

But they are easier to crack though.

They shatter so damn easily.

I love me some Siege, but I can't see it happening without being seriously toned down.

It already runs at 540p with temporal filtering to upscale to 1080p on PS4 to achieve 60FPS.
I just can't see it running on Switch at 60FPS with serviceable image quality, and 30FPS would really ruin the feel of the game.

Plus the lack of voice chat on Switch would take away so much from the game on top of that.

(I'd still triple dip and buy it though).

540p upscaling on ps4? Shit, had no idea. I only played for a bit and it didn't seem to me like anything too complex graphics wise (small environments, few characters on screen, not much going on in terms of particles) but I agree that if getting it to work means 30fps on top of a big downgrade then probably it's not worth the port.

Would love that another company copies the concept and makes something similar for the switch though.
