The Nostalgia Critic |OT| He Remembers It So You Don't Have To

Isn't that sorta Doug's thing when it comes to analysis? Stating fairly obvious stuff in a tone that makes it seem like a shocking reveal?

I guess I fell for the clickbait title of the video, and it's my first "editorial" from him. Honestly, I guess it is useful for people who don't watch many films or only watch summer blockbuster comic book crap, but the analysis of the film was really poor and shockingly lame. Like I said, maybe I'm just not the audience for this.

Yeah Doug certainly loves using that clickbait, especially in recent years.

I've always found Doug's analysis to come across more as ... late-to-the-party self-appraisal where it feels more like he's patting himself on the back for "getting" something super obvious.

I'm actually curious if there's many people that consider the insights in his editorials to be particularly shocking or refreshing, cause I've never felt that way.

Doug's analysis has never really been deep. It also gets annoying when he uses the editorials to push his "all comedy comes from suffering" belief. Reading some of Linkara's posts on another forum, Doug is VERY dedicated to this belief, and somehow has the ability to connect any form of humor back to suffering. Mostly cause Doug sees things like "annoyance" and "confusion" as suffering. It's really weird.

On another note:
Doug joins James Rolfe to play Evil Dead: Hail to the King for the Sega Dreamcast

Yep, definite crossover coming.

Interesting... I saw it some years after the event of course, but the Critic v Nerd saga (2008) was hilarious (imo) :D
The one where the Critic decodes a "message" a la The Da Vinci Code or something was just great, PMSL :D

Because of that other thread I rewatched Speed Racer again, and to this day I still don't understand why Critic doesn't like it.

I mean, yeah maybe he just doesn't like it, it feels like he has seething rage over it. And you'd think he'd like it since it's a very stylistic film and the message is clear-cut about loving your family. Maybe it's because the Wachowskis did the movie.

Yeah I kind of think NC holds some grudges on certain film makers sometimes.

Pretty sure his dislike of Speed Racer has nothing to do with the Wachowski's. It is possible for someone to not like a movie that other people like.
I myself don't like Last Action Hero, I feel the satire is weak and there are very few good jokes. But I know a lot of people like that movie.

On another note, there's speculation that one of his upcoming reviews will be
The Passion of the Christ
going by some pictures posted on Brad Jones' Tumblr that show
Santa Christ getting whipped

Yeah I already said that he just doesn't like it, but it feels like he has a seething hatred from it in his Bum review.

Jesus Christ, reading about things like the production of To Boldly Flee and Allison Pregler being taken off the site for a 15 minute hold, Channel Awesome sounds like a complete shitshow of a company. I'm guessing the whole blip move didn't help.

It all fell apart when they lack good management, apparently every since their Indian friend left (forgot his name, he plays Ma-Ti).

"The Passion of the Santa Christ" was one of the weirdest things they've ever done. They should do more!

That movie always sucked, it's boring and unpleasant to watch.

man that subtitles joke got really fucking old really fast

That's actually on Brad. It's one of his favorite gags, to put in fake subtitles in foreign movies, even with movies that already come with subtitles (like Salo or the 120 Days of Sodom)

The Passion of the Christ review was absolutely hilarious to me, but I'm a fan of Brad's inaccurate subtitles gimmick. Somehow I didn't expect that gag to pop up here at all. The Passion of Santa Christ was also amazing in its sheer absurdity.

Wait, a clipless review? Really? Guess being on Youtube doesn't save him from using clips from all old movies.

Egh, I prefer the clip reviews to the parodies. Some of my favorite jokes come from the editing, and NC's parody stuff is always a little too on-the-nose for me.

I agree, I can never really getting into the clipless reviews. I've said before I vastly prefer the old style of just clips and jokes. Since they're basically like a condensed MST3K but with editing jokes and what not.

That's great! I thought he was taking a break because of some medical issues like last time. I wonder why his new stuff isn't up on Channel Awesome.

Might have something to do with his status in limbo, he is waiting for the new Maker Studios Player that has yet to materialize.

Yeaaaaaaah, I'm about half way through this "review" & I kind of liked his Disneycember review of it better. Hell, out of all the cameos in that musical part, I only recognized Ben The Sage.

Edit: Okay, I actually got a laugh out of
that one girl dressing as Kiki from Kiki's Delivery Service
near the end.

As a review, it was pretty lame. As a parody, it was fantastic. Doug's Bette Midler was hilarious. The double twist ending was stupid though.
I think this is the way to see it, though I highly prefer how he did it in Jurassic World & Pixels. & yeah, it did seem rather stupid.

I think the clipless reviews exist for two reasons.
One is that he wants to do Demo Reel without doing Demo Reel.
The second is the death of Blip. Since he now puts this on YouTube and has to deal with vigilant copyright bots.

On the cameos: I recommend checking out The Dom (the British guy with glasses), his "Lost in Adaptation" series is a lot of fun. As well as Some Jerk with a Camera (fat guy with long hair and glasses), he looks at theme park rides.

Clipless? Kinda hesitant to watch now. I liked the Jurassic World and Pixels one but man the Fury Road "review" was painful for me to watch.

Christmas shows up way too early and sticks around way passed its welcome. But it's all retail's fault really. The earlier they can get people into the spirit, the longer they can sell more shit.
