Not sure how big it is yet, but I believe the new standard of P&S has arrived.

Fuji X10/X50 detailed specs leaked
By PR ADMIN | Published: AUGUST 27, 2011

fuji-finepix-x10-camera.png

Here are the detailed specs of the upcoming FujiFilm FinePix X10 camera (or X50):

Bright, high resolution, Fujinon f/2.0-2.8 lens
Manual 4x optical zoom lens
Optical zoom viewfinder
12 Megapixels 2/3 inch EXR CMOS sensor
EXR Processor
Manual shooting modes
RAW capabilities
Up to 10fps
Retro design with magnesium alloy body
Full HD 1080p movies with stereo sound
Manual pop-up flash
Dedicated hotshoe
High contrast 2.8″ 460k LCD monitor
1cm super macro mode
Motion Panorama 360 degrees
Auto Bracketing Functions

yeah i saw those pictures, but i want to see the top of it and a size comparison. if the operation is basically the same as an x100, i might be sold - could live without that missing exposure compensation wheel if the shutter speed/aperture controls are there.

Hmm interesting. Supposed to be in the $500 range?

Idk though, I think my next p&s is going to be a waterproof/rugged model of some type. Would be great for my motorcycle adventures.

It would be nice to have a compact "stylish" camera for taking out on the town though.

Just bought a Sigma f1.4 30, online for my Canon 600D. My only lens currently is a Canon 18-135mm, and while I like it for what it is, it is just too BIG for casual snaps and day-to-day walk arounds. So this prime lens should be a perfect substitute, I'll probably end up having it on the camera 90% of the time!

I really hope I get a good copy though, as I know this lens is plagued with focusing problems. I can send it in under warranty along with my body and have it calibrated, but that seems like a hassle I'd rather not have. I've heard cases where they've fixed the lens perfectly, no questions asked- but I've also heard stories where Sigma say that it is "within manufacturing limits" and won't calibrate it.

So I hope that my lens focuses properly right out of the box, but if not, I then hope that Sigma will just calibrate it without hassle.

Not in the same class. You are lucky if your weather proof camera has a 1/2.3" sensor in it. May as well get a Motorola Defy+ and call it a day.

You'll have a tough time finding a good wide-angle zoom at that price range. If you're satisfied with kit lens quality, you might look for a used Sigma 18-125.

But unless you really don't want to swap lenses, I'd suggest that you get a Canon 55-250 instead.
I was already afraid it would be hard. The 55-250 seems quite nice. I will look into it.
Thanks a lot for the answer.

Well right. I guess my thinking is a true compact + a dslr makes more sense to me than having every size sensor known to man.

Plus a waterproof would be cool to take to the beach/camping when you didn't want to risk ruining your dslr.

For reference, here is my current P&S

LjMDr.jpg

Off road motorcycle riding gives it quite a beating :p

I have somehow managed to keep it dry, but it would be nice to not have to worry about it.

yeah i've been thinking about a waterproof camera for a while too, but now that summer's coming to an end i guess it's not really the right time - doubt i'll be in those sort of conditions all that often. maybe next year.

i really like the sony TX5, from what i've seen:

Sony-TX-5.jpg

it serves double duty as an ultra-compact and tough go-anywhere camera, which is an interesting mix. i was swimming in the sea with my friend last month and she had one of these, and i was like "woah watch out for your camera, it's all wet!" - really didn't expect it to be waterproof considering the styling and size.

that fuji x50, though; i'd really just like to have a compact that acts like a normal camera.

i also don't want to support companies giving their compact ranges daft names like POWERSHOT or COOLPIX or CYBERSHOT. i know the x100 is technically a "finepix" but at least it's not written on the camera...

Any recommendations for a 32GB class 10 SD card? I take 1080p video. Willing to spend extra for something reliable. Should I go for the Sandisk Ultra or whatever?

My 16GB transcend card has started crapping out on me and I want to replace it soon (on a trip -- I have a 4GB backup card but it's very slow).

I have heard that Sony can get sand/dirt stuck in the sliding lens cover.

I was looking at the Lumix TS3:
[IMG]http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41fKPs06hWL._SL500_AA300_.jpg
"Leica" lens, GPS, 28mm equivalent.

or the new Nikon one:
41cbZe7qBML._SL500_AA300_.jpg

Looks like it might be the same camera with a few different bits lol. Has a cool feature of using the built in accelerometer to change setting by tilting/shaking it so you can navigate the menus with gloves on!

I figure the stupid names will scratch off like they did on my powershot after a few trips :p

Digital Versus?

I was all set to buy a Canon T2i, but looking at snapsort, the nikon D5100 beats the pants off it. And they are similarly priced on Amazon. hmm, i'm conflicted.

I have a t3i (same thing as the 2 pretty much), and I was also conflicted between the d5100. While gritty details indicate the 5100 to be better in certain aspects, the t3i is just so much better to use in my opinion. Nothing against nikon as a brand but when comparing these two cameras in person, the choice was easy.

Have you tried them both out in person? Just choose whichever you feel has the better interface and feel. The actual difference is image quality is negligible.

Even though you shouldn't stare to much at test charts while deciding on a camera, truth is that Canon has been slipping behind competition a bit lately. I'm really hoping their new batch of cameras incorporates a new generation of sensors, beginning with the coming high end models this winter (1D and 5D successors) and trickling down to the lower end quickly.

i have that lens with an Olympus mount and it constantly front focuses. i've dealt with it for over a year now, so i'm good about correcting it by eye/feel before i take a shot, but that obviously does nothing when i want to shoot subjects quickly.

otherwise, it's a nice, if heavy lens.

Any concrete date of the release of the NEX-7 ?

Does the 50mm f/1.8 OSS E-Mount has the same release date of nex7 too ?

what Olympus camera do you use it with? If its relatively new you can focus micro adjust with it.

Around November. Should be the same date as the A77.

The A77 should be out late October. SAR was making it seem like the NEX-7 is probably further down the road since pre-production models weren't sent out like they were for the A77. It still should be out by November though.

I have the A77 kit pre-ordered on Amazon now, but I can't make up my mind on whether or not I'll stick with it, go for the NEX-7, or just save the cash and go with the NEX-5N since it probably more than meets my needs.

NEX5N looks like a more impressive performer in terms of IQ. Pity you have to use legacy glass or A mount lenses to take full advantage of it.

The 5N looks to have fantastic high ISO performance. A bit better than the A7000 which is fantastic.

With that said I'll be going with the 7 purely for controls customization though, IQ wise it should be quite a bump over my dinosaur of a Rebel XT. I'm tired of wadding through my Rebels menu screens just to turn Mirror lockup on and off. Though I guess that's a non-issue with mirrorless cameras. hyuck.

As far as lenses I plan on going nearly full manual. Probably grab the 7's kit lens so I have a zoom lens to go with. Supplement the system with high quality Rangefinder lenses like ZM 25/2.8 Biogon.

There is a Chinese thread comparing the high ISO performance of A77, which shares the same sensor with the Nex7, and the Nex-5n. The 5n's high ISO is a lot more usable IMO.

http://forum.xitek.com/sorthread.php?threadid=907923

Just scoll down, left is A77, right is 5n. I am glad Sony at lease has two sensors. Just image Canon jump in the megapixel war with both feet and make a 22-24 mp 1.6X sensor for all its SLR.

wow I'm surprised by how usable the 5n is @ 6400 ISO.

5n is coming out next week, so its IQ is finalized. As for A77, who knows. A lot of people are hoping that the high ISO performance will increase with the production firmware.

I bet they have your serial number and or credit card recorded somewhere.. I know Adorama and Cameta does this, they're probably trying to dick you out of the discount. Maybe check your CC statement and complain to a manager?

I recently got a Panasonic Lumix LX-5 and as much as I love the camera, my trip to Alaska made me realize that I should start looking at additional lenses.

I'm a total novice, but I do want to start dabbling in getting better shots with my camera through use of different lenses/lighting/technique.

So, would anyone be able to recommend some must-have lenses/accessories that are compatible with my camera?

Thanks!

I'm confused. The LX5 isn't an interchangeable lens camera, right?

LX5 is an advanced point and shoot that can except some lenses with an adapter. Other's like the Canon G12 can also.

Those usually do nothing but degrade the IQ though...

speaking of IQ, I just picked this up!

:)

Included a half exposed roll of film for $3! I bought it as more of a object to take pics of, but I kind of want to see if I can get the film processed and see what is on there. Probably some gross old people porn...

Those are total garbage. Theres nothing you can do to expend the focal range of the LX5. Invest in a panorama software if you must.

I think I'm done with fucking eBay.

Sold a MacBook Pro for like $300 less than it probably should have went for.

AND just sold a Canon film camera (Canon Rebel T2) and it went for fucking $10. Fucker.

Those are just adapters, I own an LX3 and tried those zoom and wideangle adapters and it didn't satisfied me.

And then the fees, should have just used Craigslist; which does have its own problems but you tend to make more money as long as you dont give into hagglers.

$10 sound about right. I brought a top of line pro body F90x for less than 30. They are more useless than 486 computers.

I just sold a freaking minidisc player for $50 on eBay.

I have a 93 feedback rating on eBay and I've always been pretty satisfied when selling in the past. I'd say $10 is a retarded steal for a film camera even if people don't really use film anymore.

and oh... I sold a broken original Gameboy for $7 last week. Ha. Jeeez...

Nobody wants a film camera, especially a non-metal body. It has nothing to do with the price of a gameboy or a MD player. MD player is a self contained system, you can use it forever. Not so for film.

which is ironic. why would people (including myself) want metal body when you can't use it forever? Do people really think that film will outlast digital?

Because metal, manual film bodies are in and plastic, automatic film bodies are out. People who are happy using plastic automatics are generally happy with digital.

It's not really about how long the body will last. It's about the experience.

You can fix old camera easily though. I paid 250 for a FM2n. It worths that much to me, and the market agrees. Classic cameras provide much better photo taking experience.

Also people are still using 50's era Leica bodies. The only aspect that is hard to deal with is when these older bodies use some sort of antiquated battery system. Even then, if its just the metering that needs batteries, you can go a very long time with a purely mechanical film body.

My friggin FG batteries cost me $15 at Radioshack, more than what I paid for the camera, I was desperate to give it a try and didn't want to wait online so I paid like a chump!
