The Official NeoGaf Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Thread

I thought XIII is supposed to be the evolution of Crisis Core's battle system. After playing the game today and reading Jeremy Parish's blog post during GDC, I can now fully see it in the screens from E3 2006, and how it's supposed to be acrobatic, like a movie, in combat.

*mumbles*

PLEASE LET IT HAVE FFX BATTLESYSTEM evolved.

give versus crisis core, whatever you do dont use ffxii's battle system.

it actually looks like you que up moves.

Got this earlier and put a couple hours in. Now that the missions are opening up it's getting good. Going to try to put another couple hours in before bed.

I'm very obviously not a huge fan of FFVII, but this has been quite fun thus far, I picked mine up awhile ago, with the guide for traditions sake (I've always bought guides along with my FF games ever since like... 94).

Even as an FFVII detractor I'd say that Xplay review is nothing short of fucking mind boggling. But whatever, I'm fucking tired of bitching about RPG reviews, I just flat out give up.

I expected more of a 3 but they made valid positives and negatives just the negatives weighted more too them.

Same here. Glad that the US version is the JP LE cover.
Isn't the regular NA version just the regular JP flipcover? and the Best Buy version the LE JP cover?

I dunno what the Best Buy cover is, but the one I got (from gamestop) is the cover that came with the Crisis Core psps. The normal cover (that my JP version has) is the cloud pose redux in front of Midgar.

Standard NA edition is the color version of the JP LE. Best Buy edition is the JP LE.

Been watching this curiously from a distance. FFVII wasn't my favorite of the series (occupying the middle somewhere in my FF rankings) and what I could stomach of the movie almost killed my interest in anything FF7 from then on...

But this is really looking and sounding good and that $10 coupon at CC helps essentially keep me in that self-imposed "$30-max" zone for PSP/DS games.

Picking it up tomorrow.

You and me both. Tried to get it today but they told me they wouldn't get any until 2:00 pm tomorrow.

How many hours in are folks at the moment?
Clock is about 9 & 1/2 or so hours in at start of chapter 4. Done lots of missions and less of the main game. Burnt out at the moment though.

Inside cover aka flipcover

That is what I meant.

No more than a couple hours in, but I am already loving it.

I am groaning at all of the fanservice outwardly, while inside I am giddy as a school girl.

Can't wait to run into Aeris.

I'm only two hours in but the story is already so bizarre, confusing and terrible that I'm regretting everything. I feel like FF7 didn't hit the crazy button until half way through disk 2. In that game they at least built up setting and characters and stuff. This seems to be drama straight from the get go.

Does it get better?

Edit: The gameplay and fanservice though is awesome. The remix of the classic victory song is great.

I expected this thread to have exploded by now......level 18 btw 3 hours in. I'm still now where near where I was in the JP version. Also I swear they tweaked the Roulette system, I don't get nearly as many special attacks as I did in the JP version.

They "Aerith"ed her up now! ;p :(

Did they really?

god fucking dammit

edit: just reread the manual for confirmation

some how I missed that the first time.

My brain automatically converts "Aerith" into "Aeris"

Honestly, I might not have noticed at all through the rest of the game if no one had told me.

I'm going by the manual here, strictly. I put the game down after an hour and have returned to FFVII (on the PSP, not the PS3, so NYAH!!) ;p

Where do you think I play my copy of FFVII?

Remote play is a beautiful thing. :P

Why is "Aerith" such a bad thing?

I'm not a fan of revisionist history.

I liked the character a lot in the original game, and I hate when they change characters that I've grown attatched to.

I don't give a shit what her original name was in Japan, or any of that crap.

cool pic[/QUOTE]

lol, I don't think I ever looked inside the case. I took out the UMD, put it in my psp and never looked back. I would have flipped it around :(.

You are exactly correct. I feel foolish.

Remote play is hideous. Native playback is bliss! ;p

I can play my PS1 games anywhere I have wifi, and I don't have to take up any memory card sdpace, or mess with the hassles of flashing and updating (not to mention waiting for new releases of) custom firmwares.

To each their own, but for me, this way makes me much happier.

Aerith got another change. She's no longer legal! ;p

Ignorance is bliss! ;p

The hassles of flashing and updating CFWs are identical to regular firmware! We can even update via Network Update now! No more downloads or PRX extractions or anything! Great stuff! But that's neither here nor there.

Why is "Aerith" such a bad thing? I always liked the way it sounded softer.
For me the name Aerith sounds like it ends suddenly and hard. At least that is why I like Aeris better.

I am so 100% totally in agreement here.

(I also just think "Aeris" is a nicer name.)

Commercials for this game are on like every freaking channel I watch. Loving the game so far, I haven't even gone on to the second assignment yet because I'm getting hooked on all the side missions I keep unlocking.

re-posting this because I think a lot of folks missed it. Is anyone not liking the story so far? I don't know what the hell is happening.

quoted for the motherfucking truth. i originally bought originally a psp (and a wireless router) because of remote play thinking playing psx games via remote play would be great. :lol

so i'll be getting my copy in a few days, any known firmware conflicts?

Okay, this game is fucking awesome. Level 9 right now and loving the 2 hours I've played so far. In a lot of ways, this and God of War are really the first killer-apps for the system. Feel free to disagree, but I will beg to differ.

For all of you that don't own a PSP: GET ONE!
