The Official NeoGaf Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Thread

It'll also be the f'n sad to probably see online bittorrent trackers have tens of thousands of leechers day one.
Well, the english version is already up on some torrent sites. I already reserved it, but I wish I would've waited. That circuit city deal seems nice.

cancelled my order with walmart.com and ordered the game through gamestop with overnight shipping. Woot. Better be worth the money ;o

Goddamn it :(

That was fast.

You know what's really sad? Thousands of people downloading, and it won't be enough to generate actual discussion about this game around here. Same thing happened to God of War. Thousands downloaded, and the amount of discussion on the actual game in the official thread was pathetic for a GoW game.

Out of curiosity, how many hours is the game roughly? And are the side quests substantial?

If you wanted to play the main game without doing ANY sidequests, I imagine you would be in the 12 hour range. However, you'll want to do sidequests to get some of the optional summons, better materia, better equipment, shop access, etc.

There are over 300 side quests that are basically unlocked as you complete them. At roughly 40% of the side quests done my end game time was a little over 20 hours.

Excellent review, thank you for explaining pretty much everything. However I have one last question...Is Shiva summon there as well? On ign's summon list, I don't see her mentioned.

Nope, no Shiva.

Yeah its good times for PSP! I just bought one and it could't be a better time with those great games.

yeah the piracy is f*cking sad, it will cost the game at least some sales.
I know I'm buying day 1

Indeed. Chinese pirates already put up this game for download, since as always games over there are released a week/more earlier - http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-bl-49-en-15-Crisis+Core:+Final+Fantasy+VII-70-2lx1.html. The only differences are lack of a rating tag, and a small translated manual insert alongside the original manual, so this is basically the final NA version.

God damn sad :/

Wow. Thanks. Looks like I'll be playing it for a while.

Wow, the PSP speakers do FFVII's shit-synth absolutely no favors.

Running up a few dozen flights of stairs for an elixir! The good old days! :lol

Hehe I assume you are playing FFVII on your PSP in anticipation of Crisis Core. Thats a pretty good idea! I'll give it a shot tommorow :)

edit: Thanks for the grammar lesson :) and yes the dirge game sucks big time.

Yeah, I preordered mine from Amazon, so I'm probably not going to get Crisis Core until early April. And in my various attempts and playing through FFVII on my PC and later PS2, I could never manage to beat it. I always got too bored and tired of it. Figured I'd give it another shot on the handheld. Worked for Dragon Quest VII, why not Final Fantasy VII?

Edit - Um, you're/your, btw. Not your/your.

Edit 2 - Besides, it beats playing Dirge of Crapperus, right?

Any words on who's doing "Why"? Are they keeping Ayaka?

Probably. The only reason X-2 got an English version song is because Yuna and Lenne are seen singing and it'd be a bit weird if they just broke out into Japanese. The FF12 song was already in English to begin with (although there is a Japanese version on the CD).

Anyway... grr. I can't believe I have to wait almost another week for this and thousands of pirates get it right now. This blows.

Me too :( She is like one of my favourite summons.

About FF7, I'm playing this game as well on the ps3. FF7 was my least favourite one from the ps era. But somehow now I like it. It's weird how I suddenly feel the magic at this generation. I can't wait for FF7 CC!

Is there any benefit to playing it on hard mode aside from the challenge?

Not that I know of. I think new game plus opens up more side missions, but hard mode is just a harder difficulty from what I could tell.

Knowing SE, you will bust your booty to get a 100% on hard mode, and end up with a slightly different ending picture :lol

I want to replay FFVII. It pisses me off that there's no way for me to do that. I'm not spending $150 on an eBay copy.

I just happened to find my copy.. I'm actually replaying it now via remote play.

I'm not sure how the law goes, but if you preordered the game and payed full price for it, downloading it isn't exactly illegal. You own it, you're just getting the game on a different media.

Huh? I have the FFVII disc at home, so if I put those in my PS3 I can play it via remote play? Mind blown (I just got my psp, not sure what options it has)

Some stores like Fry's still have the greatest hits version in stock.

$50/hour, but no kissing on the lips and colors must be pre-separated
The financial reckless part of me wants to buy a nice new slim PSP just for this game. It looks absolutely gorgeous.

I hate the way that slot-thing comes up in the middle of battle. You've no control over the outcome, so why even put it there? The summons are ace, though, as are the limit breaks.

Some of the FMV cutscenes have been ripped and Aerith does have a new voice actress and overall the voice acting isn't too horrible at all. But the most important scene where
Zack finally dies and Cloud screams after realizing everything is much much better in the original japanese version.

How easy is the game on normal? That might make playing on Hard worth it, just for the additional punishment.

DustinC, do you know who's doing Aerith's voice this time around?

Well, okay, I wouldn't feel guilty for downloading it. However, as far as I know, it's the Asian version, so when the real thing comes in Tuesday, my saves wouldn't work and 4 days worth of work would be down the toilet anyway.

I have no clue. I didn't pay attention to the credits all that well, and every site I've seen that does cast listing still says it's Mena Suvari, which it definitely isn't.

In *this* case, the Asian version has English text and voices. However, usually with FF games they have Japanese text and voices.

I really hope this game does well. It is fantastically awesome... and yes, I've beaten it a couple times.

That is a wise move. I had pre-ordered Wild Arms XF from Walmart.com, and still am waiting for it.

It's being shipped by "UPS Mail Innovations", which apparently combines the slowness of both UPS ground and the US Mail.

(That's not really fair. I guess. According to tracking, it took UPS a week for it to get from Ct to where I live. And it's now been sitting in the main PO in my city for a week. At least UPS moved it 2000 miles during the week they have it. The US mail has moved it about 5)

Does anyone besides me object to pre-ordering? I see it as basically a scam, unless there is some nice schwag thrown in to sweeten the deal. I rarely have problems finding games on launch day, and pre-ordering with Amazon or Gamestop seems too risky, since they are not obligated to get you the game on launch day. Anyways, that's my little rant. Hopefully I can pick Crisis Core up at Circuit City on launch day and get the gift card.

I usually never pre-order games, but since the European edition has limited edition stuff, I make sure that I will get it.

I'm sure they found a new voice actor for Genesis. It would have been cool if they kept Gackt's sexy voice :( For that I might get the JP version someday as well.
