Huh? I have the FFVII disc at home, so if I put those in my PS3 I can play it via remote play? Mind blown (I just got my psp, not sure what options it has)

Yeah its pretty amazing:D

The game benefits a lot from the PSP's small screen (looks less dated).

^ Thank you! I thought it was an actual metal case, like a mini Steelbook or something. That's cool though! I hope the real box doesn't have the Best Buy logo on it anywhere!

I'm pretty sure that picture isn't it. That's just the placeholder box you get to keep when you pre-order the game (I could be wrong though).

Hopefully my Best Buy has it on Tuesday. But I doubt it. Everytime I go to buy games on release days - my Best Buy is either to lazy to stock the actual game or they don't get it till a couple days later (or so they say).

Well, it says "metallic" not "metal" so I think it's just a shiny insert, like the pre-order box but without the pre-order junk on it.

So is it unwise to play this game if I haven't ever played FFVII? I know this is a prequel, so there really shouldn't be any problems right? I know for sure from friends that
Aerith dies in FFVII
and
Zach dies before the events
of FFVII, so I'm kinda spoiled in that regard just like the rest of you.

I don't, do you really know who Zack is?

I'd say the revelation that
Cloud is not the person he says he is
is somewhat significant. Not in the big picture, but character-wise.

Well aside from FF7 being fairly dated now, I would say you're in for quite the treat if you play CC now.. .and then get your hands on a copy of FF7.

From what I understand, all the main characters in FF7 are 'introduced' in CC.

Yep. Playing Crisis Core for me was very nostalgic... from the characters to the locales... so awesome.

I don't think I'll finish FFVII before this hits. :(

Assuming I'm even able to finish FFVII this time.

Nope, just the shiny cover, it is the same cover as the japanese LE cover.

I have to agree, I imported the Japanese version and yea there are some parts that are very familiar if you played FFVII.

Anyone buy the soundtrack? the crisis core theme makes me just want to cry in a sad way same goes with the song "Why".

Square needs to come out with a play-arts Zack Figure, both young and older Zack with the buster sword.

I hope the US version has the song, Why.

I like the Blue better, but I wish they went with pure white + the logo, like VII.

Jealous as fuck about the EU set w/ the artbook though, might import it.

So it's gonna be wild if Aeris were to call you and tell you to come pick up your preorder of CC FFVII.

Are you guys going to do the main story first or the side missions?
Because you get some good items/equipment from doing the missions

I always chug through the main story before fiddling around with too many sidequests. It's my insurance policy in case I get tired of the game and lose interest in it, I would rather lose interest after having completed the main story than before.

"Hey Y2Kev, this is Aeris, back from the dead. K, just calling to let you know that your copy of Crisis Core is ready to be picked up at Gamestop and with the strategy guide, you'll save 15%! I'll hold your copy for three days before I sell it anyway, and as always, thank you for shopping Gamestop!"

My tendency is to basically do everything possible at any given point in a game before moving onto the next required point. This is what almost killed Mass Effect for me.

I can't imagine that Crisis Core will be any different for me.

Special Edition is a must have. If it wasn´t for that, I would´ve probably imported the game from the states.
And since I´m probably the only one in the world that hasn´t played Final Fantasy VII (not even began a new game), this one is going to be all fresh.

Seriously?

Then that means CC is basically going to spoil FFVII details for you, considering the revelations in FFVII. FFVII:CC basically fills in details after the fact.

That's sort of weird considering it actually takes place before FFVII.

But Mechar, you're definitely not the only one! I am gonna play FFVII for the first time (besides playing through the intro sequence) after I play Crisis Core.

Um...Crisis Core takes before Final Fantasy VII?

I know its 10 years after VII was released, but anyone know if this CC story was extensively written before they released VII? I'm sure they had ideas of course, just curious as to how much is made up after the fans feelings on the story were known.

Yes, chronologically, CC takes place before FFVII. But it is HIGHLY likely that CC was written in a such a way as to be most satisfying when played after FFVII.

Much like Baten Kaitos is best played before it's prequel follow-up, Baten Kaitos Origins.

Considering the hype and all the different love stories that I´ve read and that surrounds this game, it´s not like I´ve never heard of Cloud, Yuffie or Sephiroth and who dies and when. So actually, I couldn´t care less right now about having the story ruined. The best thing though is that I´m playing the games in the chronological order, and that hopefully the game is worth the long wait.

That still doesn't stop Crisis Core from spoiling FFVII which spends a sizable chunk of it's story about the past. Crisis Core simply fills details after the revelations from FFVII. A part of the quest in FFVII was to reveal what really happened years before. With Core Crisis, it takes a key component from FFVII, basically assuming that knowledge, and expands upon it in further detail.

It's almost exactly why I never recommend or most fans in general of playing MGS3 over MGS1, MGS2 first simply because it's chronological. Core Crisis builds from FFVII, not really the other way around.

I think it's more like it'll be more enjoyable if you HAVE played FFVII.

Exactly what I was getting at. Sorry if it wasn't clear.

Doesn't matter if Baten Kaitos Origins, FFVII: CC, or the Star Wars prequels take place before older games. They were written and designed to be enjoyed AFTER experiencing the original(s).

It would be interesting to hear from someone playing CC without playing the original. Does this game hold up without all the nostalgia?

I played about a third of FFVII (up to just past Costa del Sol) a while back and put it down for some reason. If you haven't played FFVII at all you'll miss a few of the things, but it's enjoyable if you don't have much else on the PSP. Definitely a must buy if you even halfway enjoyed FFVII, but beyond the nostalgia factor it's decent. Not a 9 that most sites are giving it, but probably closer to a 6 or 7.

I mean... sort of? Star Wars can very much be watched in chronological order (of the series, not of the release dates). If someone hadn't seen any of the Star Wars I'd recommend they do that, start from A Phantom Menace. It'd be pretty sick not to know Anakin becomes Darth Vader, you know? But on the other hand, you'd already know that he was Luke's father when you watched the original trilogy. Prequels aren't necessarily designed to be watched after the original, in anachronological order--that is just the way they were released and so logically the first epidode that was released sets the stage for the prequel, and not the other way around, but that if you watch the prequel first, it will set the stage for the sequel, for you.. Of course, many people had already seen the original Star Wars, or with FF, played FFVII. Then again, I am being a bit subjective because I am convince myself that it'll be cool to play CC before FFVII. I wonder if videogame cinematics have progressed to as much of a degree between FFVII and CC as movies had progressed between Star Wars original trilogy and EPs1-3.

It's like which came first, the chicken or the egg? In any case, I'm hyped for CC.

Uh... no. ANY halfway decent follow-up is designed around and builds off what came before, REGARDLESS of timeline chronology. In this way, prequels and sequels are the same. Sure, you can experience them chronologically, but you're going into it out of order, and you're bound to miss purposefully written developments and references, at best; or outright spoil yourself or the experience, at worst.

Yeah... uh, I guess I see what you're saying. I edited my post to point out I was being too subjective because I'm going to play Crisis Core not having played FFVII yet. I figure when I get to FFVII I'll go "Ohhhh so that's blablabla"... In any case I'm hoping FFVII won't be spoiled much by playing Crisis Core first, while objectively sure, Crisis Core is gonna build on FFVII mystique, and it is, like a sequel, continuing the story in a sense. Still, I want to believe it's not designed specifically to be experienced after FFVII and that as a standalone and introduction to FFVII it will be a good experience. ..And hopefully it will be.
