Where do you work?

GameStop... I saw the email myself. It said the game would arrive at most places today/tomorrow and we could sell it as soon as we got it in.

Well, with AC, I always think it's important to consider a few things.

First off, it's a movie. It's short. Not only that, but it was originally intended to be even shorter. It was planned as a 20-minute long short featuring only a few characters, very little action, was going to be released direct-to-DVD, and was just something the cinematics staff teams wanted to do, basically. As they made it, they kept adding more, and there was a lot of fan feedback, so it kept getting lengthened and more characters were added. But it still had the same basic 20-minute long plotline.

On the Way to a Smile, the short novelization of the two years netween FFVII and AC, which was included with the Limited Edition of AC in the US, to me, makes up for the brevity of the plotline in the movie. It's got a lot of character, a lot of backstory, feels a lot like the games, and just fits well. I wish those had been animated, but I don't think they'd really make for a good movie, considering the almost total lack of action.

Hmm, I just read about the old news of the launch party that they're doing for the game at the Metreon. I live and go to school right in downtown SF so I'm considering going, the only thing though is that its not until 6pm tomorrow whereas I can go to EB and get it at 11:30am after my class gets out and I'd rather not wait in line all day long. Well I'll see how I'm feeling after my class tomorrow if I'll go to the Metreon instead....Does seem like a very cool event though.

I just picked up my copy from my local game store and I have been playing it for the past 2 hours. Im really enjoying it, I love the lil comical conversations that goes on and how Zack persona is. I have a regular copy but tomorrow I have a Best Buy pre-order to pick up so depending on how the TIN case looks. I may still pick it up.

2 thumbs up so far.

My initial reaction is that I really would prefer turn-based combat and a bit more freedom, but maybe it'll grow on me. Also, does the DMW feel completely arbitrary, especially when you level up? Just give me proper XP and a leveling system. I hope this isn't the direction FFXIII is going in.

I know, I'm an old bastard. :D

I am absolutely positively in love with this game so far. The opening credits cinema pre-title screen is so OMG! Gameplay is awesome. I'm glad it's not turn based. This feels fresh. Very fresh. Already got some kind of massive awesomeness from the slot wheels that unleashed a wild attack on my foes. HOLY SHIT THE MUSIC ROCKS!

. The game has production values off the chain, absolutely unbelievable for a portable game. Combat is fast-paced and fun, even if it does err little on the button mashing side of things. Oh yeah, the soundtrack rocks too.

Does anyone know is FF7CC plays better on the new PSP like god of war does or is it exactly the same? I know this question is vague but i can't remember the specific differences. Thanks

No difference except for faster loading times. But it loads fast on the phat psp too.

So Gamecrazy still sucks. They just had a stack behind the counter which they claimed for all for preorders, but I've never known many companies to undership/underbuy Final Fantasy titles. At least with Gamestop, they have the preorders organized and labeled so you at least know that they were probably actually preordered. The guy behind the counter didn't offer any sympathy or explanation, but maybe that was due to his inherent lack of social skills. This was my first and last Gamecrazy experience.

At least this gave me time to finish up God of War and catch up on NeoGAF, and I'll still be able to get the game anywhere tomorrow, just in time for my long flight back to the east coast.

Oh, and in case anyone was wondering, I hit a few Targets, Wal-Marts, Circuit Citys, and Best Buys on my way back to the hotel and no one was selling it. And out of these retailers, only Best Buy and Circuit City were adequately stocked. The Wal-Mart and especially Target video game sections were barren wastelands reeking of poor product replenishment planning, which was so weird because the Targets and Wal-Marts in Alabama and Georgia are usually in great shape. I understand why people in California hate the big boxes....they all look like shit out here and have more trashy people than I've ever seen in the deep south.

I found it was very much "Press X continuously and watch the pretty battles." At least they're pretty battles.

WTF?! I can understand if they might have given the game 3 out of 5, but 2 is ridiculous!

Finally finished it. Took me 26 hours, did a little over 40% of side quests.

I thought the game was great, though very very easy. Like...super easy, but that may be because I did a bunch of side quests and received some good items. I used a phoenix down on myself, but that icon remained above my head until the very end of the game.

I thought the story was pretty good, the battles were fun if a bit mindless, and the presentation was ridiculous (in a good way). I don't understand the 2/5 review, but different strokes for different folks. Even though I put 2 trillion hours into FFVII, I really want to play it right now. If SE was smart, they'd have released a FFVII remake alongside this game.

Anyway, great game.

X-play is a joke. Didn't you get the memo?

Well, I have never heard of them to be honest :D

I'm sure FF7CC is more worth than that anyway.

Commish, great impressions. I think I'll choose for hard when first playing this game.

You just pretty much described Final Fantasy I-VI...aren't they epic?

X-play gave it a 2/5?? Goddamnit Sessler!!!!!!!!! This game's a 4 minimum.

"Shinra really needs to change those outfits." Would make sense to have complete redesigns in the prequel wouldn't it? Fucking joke review.

this game doesn't seem like FFVII at all to me...yeah there is the futuristic art style, a couple of the same names, but otherwise it is WAY different.

FFVII had short stubby people, completly turn based, static backgrounds, etc.

Now I don't really mind this, in fact prefer...but the combat is so different than anything I am used to (I don't even understand the roullette thing), the 3D type exploration, etc.

I guess I just don't get what makes it FF, or like FFVII. Maybe the only thing is the basic setting (future art style) and a story tie in.

All that said this seems to be an amazingly well made game, and since I hate standard turn based JRPGs, the changes are welcome for me.

There was an interview on 1up that said that there is XP in the game, we just can't see it.

Did you play on hard? I'm playing New Game+ on hard, and even though the normal game is very simple (mainly due to my level - 44 right now, and I'm on chapter 8), the missions are hard.

And regarding the ending,
I loved everything after the final battle. Square Enix really does wonderful endings, and the interactivity you had here was just wonderful. I already wept a few tears when Zack was fighting with the last three soldiers, almost unable to move, and Aerith's DMW was the breaker here. Man tears galore!

He said all you had to do was press X and watch the pretty battles.

I mean, when you break the gameplay down to its basics, isn't that exactly what the final fantasy games have been? Along with every other turn based JRPG available?

This is not a complaint. I prefer turnbased combat but it really is just basically a game of choices instead of actions.

Menu->selection->press X = hit 458 damage!

menu->skill->selection->press X = FIREBALL! You win!

So, I was saying that if you looked at all the turn-based goodness it really is just "Make a selection, hammer the X button, watch the goodness".

How doesn't this feel like FFVII?? Everything about the game screams FFVII, everything except the combat system.

Is there a way to play the missions after you've finished the main storyline? I've beaten 7% of the missions, but I'm more interested in finishing the story and getting man tears.

I'm enjoying it so far though, just met
Aerith
.

Good God the side missions are super repetetive. There are like 4 environments that get recycled for all of the side missions and there is virtually no story to them (a few exceptions).

I wish SE had included the Gambit system in this game, or a simplified version of it. There are times when I need to use a potion, but it takes awhile to select items and then scroll to where the potions are located. The presentation in this game is phenomenal and the summons are simply amazing
(Odin one hit kills everyone on screen)
. I just wish the combat was more engaging than spamming X.

Fantastic ending, I agree.
I was mowing through those soldiers when they first appeared - quake after quake after quake. Then down I went. Even those last three, I quaked them a few times :) I was limping too slowly to catch them with my sword most of the time.
Definitely the best ending I've seen in years, to be honest.

I am going to start on new game + now. The missions do get hard, I will admit. On some I died many times, but then again, I was underleveled for them at the time. I wouldn't stop until I finished it, though.

Well in the US version you can select Hard mode right from the beginning, I'm starting to feel I should've just picked that. To be honest, I don't really mind the mashy combat considering it's a portable game that's designed to be played in short bursts.

And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'
i REALLY like this battle system. very fluid and fun.

don't like the characters too much yet except for angeal, but i'll give it some time. so far so good!

You get used to having healing items on the right side, and attacking stuff on the left side, and adeptly switching between them. It takes practice.

The spamming X part is there in the beginning, but I always dodged attacks and magic with square. Then later you really have to use magic. But later it's a game of X attack, dodge enemy attack, counter magic, maneuver around enemy back, attack back for crit. damage, etc. In this way, the combat is deeper than it looks.

Is Hard Mode the way to go? I mean, does it nicely balance out the difficulty or does it over-compensate and turn the game into a grindfest?

Is there any way to run away from battles? Sometimes I just want to speed through these missions and get my prizes, you know?

Also, what determines the level of the limit break you get? Sometimes I get level 5, sometimes level 1.

It's random.

And you can avoid most battles by hugging the walls.

so...I picked up the 'metallic packaging' best buy exclusive. wow how lame it is. Its just a front cover that LOOKS LIKE metal instead of being metal. Everything except the front image is the usual plastic and paper packaging.

Anyway, glad to get the game. I went to EB at 11.30 and they had only copies for preorders (I thought I had done this :lol so I turn up to be denied.) Although they said available at 2pm, Best Buy called the stock guy so I picked it up around noon at the boca raton (glades) store.

The Japanese LE that came with the PSP bundle is the same thing.

I didn't preorder this game, but do all the Best Buys only have the silver edition cover version?

Just got the game in the mail. thanks UPS for dropping off the package without bothering to ring the doorbell. anyways. HSG5 is put on hold for a bit :lol but damn. the Cutscenes are fucking awesomes. Started the game on Hard mode. I like a challenge ;3
