So, anyone pick up a copy around Los Angeles?

I did, I live near National/Overland and there is a game store called Gameplay on Venice that had it since yesterday

Same here. Not as geeky as the JP voice (which sounds like he stuck toilet paper up his nose) but still wet behind the ears. Wonder how he going to sound after he gets the Buster Sword.

Zack really matures throughout the game. In the Japanese version, I disliked his voice in the beginning too, but as the story gets deeper... I'll just stop there. :)

Good to know. I half expected this.

Just came back from picking mine up here in East Orlando. Gamestop had a line about 10 people long with people picking up the game. Was talking with the manager and he said they had a little over 50 preoders for the game, so hopefully that bodes well for future PSP games and this month's NPD.

The Japanese LE that came with the PSP bundle is the same thing.

I didn't preorder this game, but do all the Best Buys only have the silver edition cover version?

yeah it looked like all the copies they had were with the silver cover.

I knew I should've picked up a charger yesterday. Thought I was updated but it requires an update before doing so. Guess I'll have to wait another half hour before playing. Looks really interesting though.

Ok, so having played the japanese version a ton I have to say I noticed something in the US version I hadn't seen once in the JP version. The realtime cutscenes have compression artifacts up the ass. The intro scene when sephiroth shows up shows it hardcore and I swear it wasn't in the JP version.

Well the funny thing i noticed in the intro and not the in other parts of the game is crazy ghosting, but thats more PSP fault than the games. I didn't notice this on the JP version.

Another funny thing about that is after watching a few more cutscenes the artifacts do not appear. They are incredibly evident when Sephiroth shows up in the beginning though.

He's soo bad ass he messes up the game, there is no other explanation for it.

Is the combat decent enough? I guess another way to ask it is if it's more simplistic than Kingdom Hearts battles..

Hey now, be careful going into spoiler territory. It's not like I don't already know Sephiroth is a badass, but still. Anyways, I just picked it up during my lunch. It's 1:15 and I won't be able to play until around 6:00 or so. I just do this to myself all the time. At least it's sitting next to me in it's plastic -- looking all shiny.

:D

playing non stop.

I am at
the sneakin' mission in the snow area

half ? 1/3 ? how far am i?

thanks ! level 23 btw...

aww shit. :lol I really suck at battles. dodging attacks and bullets and then trying to recover HP is hard to do. I keep pressing O to block. and evading helps slightly but the oncoming enemies gives it more of a challenge. I'm getting used to it but enjoying myself right now.

I wish Sephiroth was born with
his dad's forehead
, that would work great for the lulz. (FF7 spoiler)

I LOVE this game thus far. And im not a big FF7 fan , just liked the game (finished once , like when it was released thats all)

Ugh... I should stop reading this thread. I have to wait till I'm out of class to go pick it up, and then do a ton of hw which hopefully won't take my entire day/night. =\

just picked it up and started the first mission. (after training)

It's too early for me to say much about it other than I really like the music and the game runs very smoothly.
The combat system will take some getting used to but I can see how dodging/evading is going to play a big part later on.

I've got to get back to work so I don't lose my job :P
I'll be able to play more tonight
:D

Summons are amazing

so far i have
bahamut , odin and ifrit
but i saw the other bahamut i guess the zero since i fought him , incredible

I like the combat, the fast pace, and the missions concept, but I still don't understand the roulette stuff. Is it just completely random? It's weird that it is how leveling up is handled.

No. It reads how well you're doing and throws in bonuses to help you sometimes.

Leveling up appears random, but it's not really :)

That's sort of what I assumed... because otherwise that could possibly end up in really bad results.

Woo, get! The BB I went to probably had more than 10 copies on the shelves.

why is her name aerith?

That was the official spelling before FFVII came to the US.

Any pics of the Best Buy case yet? (Not the pre-order box)

I just tried taking a picture, but the lighting in here is too crappy. It looks just like the pre-order box without the BB stamping.

So the "metallic package" is just referring to the cover art insert?

Picking it up in an hour. :) but can't play for another 5 or 6 :(.

Just picked up, the US pre-order bonus the Shin-Ra UMD case, while not practical is pretty nice, if it was metal it would totally badass.

picked it up at lunch at Gamestop in the mall...but knew today was going to be meh. I left my PSP at home. CRAP, I actually have to do work in the meantime :(

Neither Best Buy or Circuit City had it when I stopped by today. Damn... looks like I will be waiting till tomorrow for this one

^ Great impressions bro.

Well for me, I was able to pick up a copy in LaCresenta. After doing errands and gym, I'll be playing all night.

Simply mashing the X button won't get you far because even in Wutai, there are enemies there that shoot fire spells at you, and you best evade them because they'll take 200+ damage off of Zack's health. Thing is, you've got only 500 or so hp at the beginning, so just a few of those plus normal attacks from enemies will do you in.
Hm? I am pretty sure fire only did around 120 when hit by it and Zack had 600+ at level 6 (starting level). You should never get hit by a attack in CC unless you are stuck in a animation (those regular attack ones are so sweet but so long) or it is unavoidable.

I like the DMW, don't love it but like it a lot. It plays into personality and his current feelings so when he is happy, upset, or depressed it plays out in the battle. Though I wish the fix some other things like the Summon portion and leveling should not require exp if you still have to roll a 777. I leveled up one battle after another because of the huge amounts of exp I had waiting. Rather the exp not matter at all, be depressing to get a 777 but no level.
