Was anyone else surprised to see third-party games from major publishers that are being created exclusively for PS5?

SquareEnix's new AAA open-world action RPG, Project Athia, was shown and announced to be exclusive to PS5.

The team that made The Evil Within from Bethesda is bringing Ghostwire Tokyo excluisvely to the PS5.

Bethesda is also bringing Deathloop to PS5 and it is also exclusive to the console.

What do you guys think is going on here? Is Sony going to continue to be this aggressive all generation, by making exclusive deals with third-parties while pumping out games from all their own AAA studios? Will Xbox attempt to match them game for game?

Last two are timed exclusives.

True console exclusives outside of Sony-published software is more or less dead with a handful of exceptions. It's not 2002 anymore.

This. But that doesn't mean the PS5 won't enjoy getting first dibs on some big titles, or have exclusive console rights to others. The days of the PS2 will never be repeated again, but Sony's going to make sure the PS5 is the lead console next gen.

I wonder if games like Persona 6 and Dragon Quest XII will continue skipping over the Xbox this generation.

Games like Nier Automata came after they sold enough copies on PS4, so there is hope.

Just business as usual. Probably timed exclusives. I expect Xbox to have quite a few timed 3rd party games as well.

Looks like Project Athia is timed exclusive as well actually.

At this point in time I don't think there's any permanent third-party exclusives announced for the PS5.

Project Athia looks so good. It's up there with Demon's Souls as a true killer app for me. Square Enix is on fire. Only thing that is missing is a PS5 version of Final Fantasy VII. Shit, next generation hasn't even begun and I'm already up in arms by the hype. I haven't been this excited for a new console since the Dreamcast. All day I've been thinking of these games and with Horizon 2 in the mix it's just overload.
