Pffft, male "rockstar" developers all do the same thing. It just seems more obvious when it's a woman.
yeah but they become "rockstar" by making great games.....what has she done??

I can't wait to hear the guys on 1up yours about this....garnett was already going off about how they are trying to sell this game as "jade's game" when she really does nothing....

It's about as distateful as the million of pedobear photoshops this board spams daily. I don't see how accusing someone of being a pedophile is anymore distasteful then calling someone a whore.
Btw. I saw a pedobear-Mii in the Check-my-Mii-out-Channel today.:lol

... nevermind!

But yeah, I agree that Ubi Soft took advantage a bit too much at the fact that their producer was attractive, and that picture reflects that...

No offense, but I can't stand this whole "Jade Raymond" thing. Major turnoff for me about the game.
Brashnir said:
I can see why it would be a major turnoff for reading threads on GAF about the game, but turning you away from the game itself? Why?
CrushDance said:
Because all you ever see is "Jade raymond this", "Jade Raymond that" and it's like: "I care about the game only..."

And the DNA thing totally ruined the atmosphere anyway,
CrushDance said:
No. I'm saying I was interested in it and wasn't so sure about the SCIFI elements. But after seeing more it feels detached from the great atmosphere they set. I'll give it a try for sure and see how it goes.

The thing with Jade(Who I have no qualms about) is the fact that everyone is jumping on the game and her...because of her. Are we talking about the game or Jade people?
CrushDance said:
You're right :)

Lets get back on topic. Sorry for the derail.

Where were we again? Fact is not all of us are some heaving rabbits. A lot of people just care about the game and there's nothing wrong with talking about the producer, but...I mean just look at this thread.

She's created a huge personality for herself and it's going to be tough for some people to get that it's her games that matter not how adorable she is.
PepsimanVsJoe said:
I seriously doubt Jade gives two shits about some dumb webcomic.
She has an interview on GameTrailers coming up soon, do you think she'll allow them to ask about the attention?

Wow, where have I been? I'd never heard of this person.

Aside from her feelings possibly being hurt, the unfortunate thing about the comic is that it makes gamers (ostensibly the intended audience) out to be the same misogynistic sociopaths they're always stereotyped to be.

comic is terribly distasteful, though i wonder if it has so much to do with Raymond being a hot chick in the video game industry or if it has more to do with the comic author venting about how assassin's creed is getting undue hype because Raymond's face is attached to it. despite the distasteful nature of the comic, i don't think its there just to make fun of Jade for being hot.

Gowans007 said:
I guess its probably down to your interpretation of the intent of the comic,

I personaly read this as relating to the underlying assumption that Jade is pushed forward as a spokes person & face of the development team of AC because she is easy on the eye and thus gains press and interest both for the game. (poking fun at the marketing & press love for Jade)

There are a number of press interviews, photos and videos touted to contain Jade as a selling point.

My interpretation of this comic and the joke is that on some level Jade was media 'whored' out as a spokes person because of here appeal to the male audience (& press on some level).

Again this may not be the case (tho personal I believe it maybe on some level) and thus its shit an attractive female producer will have a hard time if these suspicions hang always over there career.

Could it be looked as a personal attack on Jade yes, do I believe it is no.

Oh c'mon...it's not that hidden - it's clear that that is the point of the comic, but the way it's going about it is distasteful. No subtlety, and fairly blatant images (and yes, I'm aware you could argue the same about their point as well), and the long drawn out nature of their 'point'.

I think this is fucking sick and is dragging the game industry backwards. It's already damn hard to be a woman in the game industry, especially in a role like producer. You think more women are going to want to be in the game industry when they have to contend with people talking about how ugly they are, how they need breast implants, or make up slutty fantasies about them?

My belief was that as soon as women had a strong contender to the white house, they'd won that whole equal opportunities battle, but obviously, I'm wrong - at least in traditionally geek settings. I thought geeks were supposed to be more enlightened, but apparently their love of Xbox Live over deep, meaningful relationships has just churned out an entire generation of misogynists. Some of the responses in this thread are shameful and disgusting.

And to those who say that the publicity photo is proof enough that she deserves this sort of response, please. They put the attractive men in the front too. It's a publicity photo. It's intended to make it look like a team of professionals worked on the game. The guys in the back are probably wearing ripped Metallica t-shirts and injecting ground coffee beans directly into their veins.

It's tough being a public figure no matter how you scratch it, but to be subjected to this kind of crap just because she's a somewhat attractive girl just guarantees that you'll see LESS of them in the game industry in the future.

so this must be the new asshole 'meme' of the day? Congratulations, champ. You're a fine example of manhood.

Nope, the comic is poking fun and everyone offended here is up in arms. "Oh my god, I am disgusted! I can't believe they did this to JADE."

If it was anyone else all of you would be laughing your heads off.

PepsimanVsJoe said:

This is the point exactly. She probably had/is having a good laugh.

If people want to blame anyone for this attention blame Ubi. There are only two differences with how Ubi has pimped Jade and your average E3 booth babe:

1) Jade, as a producer with experience, brings a lot more to the table than just sex appeal

and

2) Jade isn't as scantily clad as your average E3 booth babe.

I think GAF knows her emotions better than you. She is clearly sobbing in a corner from forum posts on the web on a site that ravages everybody and everyone...

I think the group photo is a big part of this problem. When you are the producer, it makes sense to be in the front. However, not only is she in the front, she's detached from the rest of the group, as if she's more important. It's just really cheesy looking and it makes it look like Jade is shamelessly promoting herself.

That said, while I initially laughed at the comic because I couldn't believe the extent its creators went to, I don't really think it was necessary.

Somethingawful has made everyone here laugh at times, myself included, but on the other hand it has caused a lot of people (and groups of people) distress. I'm surprised it's still online, honestly...

It's pretty distasteful, but that's just me. On the flipside, UbiSoft could have handled this better by instead quietly asking SA to remove the comic without turning this into a public shitstorm.

How the heck is this comic sexist, anyway? It would be sexist if those dudes were getting a BJ while she was in the kitchen making them sammiches.

I can't say I'm very impressed by the comic. It's pretty distasteful and implies she's nothing but a tramp, which is clearly not true. On the flipside, UbiSoft could have quietly asked SA to remove the comic without turning this into a public shitstorm.
How? Phone threats? SA would've just bloated about that too.

I love how some of the misogynists on this board are acting. According to them, anyone who finds this comic distasteful, poorly done, or unfunny in any capacity is clearly a pathetic loser who just finished masturbating to a picture of Jade Raymond, opened up this thread, masturbated again to the comic contained within, then decided to go all noble and defend her honor in a tragic internet flamewar sacrifice that will surely show Jade that they love her.

How about it's just a badly done comic that goes entirely too far and is entirely too personal in trying to make its flaccid, uninteresting, and obvious point?

So it's okay to exploit her when you're going for PR and pimping your game but when someone makes a webcomic exaggerating it, then it's wrong? Gotcha.

Depiction of women in gaming. <--- Nobody cares if she's crying in a corner, just the attitude we tend to have towards women in this sector, that's all.

This is what we call shooting oneself in the foot. This was to be expected sooner or later anyways.

Undeux said:
I'm kind of surprised anyone would actually defend that comic.

I defend the comic. Why not? Like I said, so many people on here that are bitching about it are completely hypocritical, because they'd cheer equal treatment of other famous people out there that they don't like.

And why exactly should she be immune from being made fun of? Certainly not because she's a she, because that's moronic. Women should be treated as equals / it isn't fair to make fun of women like this... which one is it? And yeah, the comic is a bit... you know... but similar jokes about others have been made countless times, it just happens that those jokes don't always SHOW what is being implied.

I think Ubisoft's response is the WORST thing they could have done. Women, at this point, still have a hard time in the world of video games, when it comes to being taken seriously. So having her "daddy" come in and try to save her is just going to make her look worse, and give ammunition to the people who think girls don't belong in games. ("See! She can't even take a little joke.") Best thing that could have been done in this situation is to just ignore it, or for her to acknowledge it, get a laugh at her own expense, and move on.

When did their official PR have Jade giving fans a blowjob and cum all over the place?

I think the funniest aspect to me, is that everyone seemed to have a jolly good laugh about the comic until the creator of said comic defended his masterpiece by calling the detractors a bunch of faggots. Poor Dave unintentionally slit his own throat with that one.

My thoughts exactly. IT seems Ubisoft pushed her as a figure head to draw attention to their games, people saw through it and this happened. I blame Ubisoft.

That's fine, but seriously, some of you are shocked and disgusted? This is the fucking Internet.

Yes, you clearly are no legal expert.

Number 1: It is not a parody of an IP. A human is not an IP.
How do you know Jade Raymond isn't an IP? That she isn't a made-up marketing tool created by Ubisoft's genius PR department? Just another one of Ubi's fictional characters? Have you seen the way she's presented to the gaming public? They put more pictures of her than Assassins' Creed screenshots in magazines (didn't an EU magazine do a photo shoot of her?).
This lawsuit has made everything so clear to me now: Jade Raymond ISN'T REAL. Ubi's marketing made her up and fabricated her past. These guys made a million-seller out of Red Steel, they could've easily pulled off something like this.

Guys why is this HO getting this much attention? How about all those other ppls working their asses off while this biatch is taking all the credit? She might have good looks but just might be one of those type of females that just want attention. Either that or UBi are making a great job as utilizing her as a type of "prop" (ex: We have hot chick...BUY OUR GAME!) to use to bring in gamers to play their game. Just my 2 cents so go easy on my you Jade lovers out there.

How about politely asking? All I'm saying is that Ubi has now opened the floodgates.
Politely asking SomethingAwful to remove something? :lol

SA does whatever the fuck they want. A friendly request to remove an image or something as big and bold as what Ubi just did would amuse SA all the same.

The other big name producers do the samething.

Years ago, John Romero was outcasted to the realm of cellphone games because of his attitude with gamers and the gaming press at the time, and a serious vendetta by certain sites such as oldmanmurray. Even if he's the co-creator of DOOM.

She has never taunted anyone, she has never insulting the gaming press, she was simply one of the leads on the project, and was its public spokeperson. Click on the assassin creeds threads. Most of the posts about her and what some posters would do to her, or what she has done to get such a high ranking job. Every game will be involved with will always be 'tainted' by the bizzaro internet bs she had to go through for this game. Jade Raymond's "mistake" was that she was an attractive woman in the gaming industry.

The 'boyz club' mentally needs to go away.

Honestly folks if I drew a picture of somebody in this thread sucking barnyard animal dicks while high off prescription drugs and bleach would everyone get offended?

It's possible, because I'm a pretty lousy artist.

So are you saying she isn't the producer? So what does she actually do all day?
