UK Heat Wave

I literally flooded my toilet this morning. Shit everywhere. It wasn't pleasant but I had it all cleaned up and disinfected in 30 minutes tops.

I can't imagine the unholy hell that would've been if I had CARPETS in my BATHROOM.

I'm considering never traveling to the UK after this revelation.

That's not what i was expecting. Time to whip out the general and his privates, and give them a gold rub down.
Get Amazon to hook you up with this stuff, fella....even if you ain't got "the itch", the cooling sensation will make your tadger feel like it's Christmas.

Dogs were too busy shitting all over the pavements in the 70s to get locked in anywhere. You younglings dunno what you missed out on. Having to watch every damn step and still managing to tread in some almost every time you left the house was a great laugh.

Anyway, in other news, 42 in my back garden ATM. Feels insanely hot out there.
Not only that...it was white dog shit!

I've hardwood flooring throughout and lino in the upstairs bathroom/toilet and downstairs toilet if that make you feel any better. 🤣

Bit hot today isn't it? I'm sure those fires will just get tired and stop by themselves. No point making a shameful fuss about it.

Sorted the garden, cut the grass, hung up new curtain rails, hoovered the house, repaired the garden fence, done me weights and had a cuppa

Piece of piss this heatwave :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Working in a care home during lockdown head to toe in plastic during the summer was worse than this (y)

On the fourth day of the heatdome a small town at what could be considered the epicenter burned to the ground. It had been setting the highest record temps for days.

It's where the Fraser and Thompson rivers join.

Looking at the recent photos it appears the fire contributed to erasing a magical circle I surveyed in the area for a group ceremony in 2016. 🧙‍♂️
It was only a temporary installation. It surprised last year when I saw on google that the walked parts were still visible from a plane.

That heatdome really did feel like a god landed onto the Earth.

Every year during a heatwave people want it to rain. I'm sure it will cool us down somewhat, but normally it isn't enough and you end up getting hot and humid which is even worse.

Im deffo getting aircon next year, enough summers to know that these heatwaves are gonna be the norm.

Was 36 here yday and today. It’s not as bad as I thought it would be. Worse was that last night was unbelievably hot and the baby wanted to get in bed with us. Barely slept.

I never brought up climate change. I was referring to the hysterical way that a hot-spell is being misrepresented in the UK media as the next big public health crisis. Go to the BBC website if you think I'm exaggerating. Its pathetic.

For the record I am British, and am resident in the UK.
Fuck off, it's a massive issue. It mostly affects vulnerable people, but that doesn't make it any less worse. Lesser heatwaves have caused quite a few deaths. But people like you only care when it means your granny or grandad die due to it.

It's not COVID 19 levels of bad, but that was the most extreme.

If it's killing lots of people it's a health crisis

When the solution is simply drinking more water, it isn’t a health crisis

It gets much, much hotter else where and everyone is fine. And yes, hotter in poorer places of the world that also lack AC

The fact that it disproportionately effects people in the UK speaks more so to the people who live there and their inability to take simple steps to avoid dying

I feel like we get these heatwave death tolls every damn year. How long will it take you all to adapt?

Heard a statistic that much more people die in the UK from cold homes in Winter months than from heat related illnesses in Summer months, 80:1 or something crazy like that.

So warmer winters could mean less overall excess deaths in this country? And could the rapid push towards net zero force up energy prices even further, making it even harder to heat homes and thus increase the amount of deaths from cold weather in Winter?

But let's keeping pushing for Net Zero and forcing more costs on to the most poor and vulnerable whilst energy prices are already making it impossible for this group to heat their homes during the months where we see the most excess deaths.

Also, unlike certain countries where the heat remains 30c-40x 24/7 for weeks and months on end, the tempature dips quite a lot here at night and during the mornings.

We're already down to the low-mid 20cs and its dipping further

The temperature peaked to the high 30cs for a short window of about 6-7 hours each day. So around 12-14 hours total in an entire year of temps 35c-40c and the media and climate activists have literally made this into a crisis all of a sudden to try and force through Net Zero even faster, which again may lead to much more excess deaths in Winter due to even higher energy prices.

Is it a surprise to you that people living in different countries are adapted to different environments?

If 2 days of a heat-wave is killing people in a first-world country, I'd say there are far bigger social problems than the weather to worry about.
I wouldn't allow my granny or grandad to die from this, because I'd take care of them, ensure they were kept cool and well hydrated. Its not fucking hard. The only way this kills is stupidity and/or neglect, like leaving a little kid or an animal locked in car in the blazing sun - shit that doesn't require especially harsh weather btw.

Stop acting like this is equivalent to the extremes of famine, drought, and disease which accompanies harsh weather in the developing and impoverished parts of the world. Its not the same deal at all in the UK.

Do you not get how pathetic you sound? Stop hiding behind this nebulous group of "vulnerable people" in order to pretend to have a point.

I was complaining about the media and governmental response, stoking fear and paranoia. Two institutions that as we all know are hardly exemplars of flawless competence and truthfulness.

If so, it may be a further surprise to you that rising global temperatures are likely to result in increased deaths in those places too, and that climate change is already being thought of in terms of a global public health crisis.

I never said it was like a famine or a drought.

You're the one with phantom opponents in your head. That came from you. You clearly have issues, as you posted three times in row in this thread. And you're the one getting aggressive.

Ultimately, I just can't be bothered to argue with climate change denialists like you. I should, as I studied the damn subject at university, but I just don't have the energy for it.

It was a massive dump. I even flushed mid-poop hoping part of it would go down in the first flush, but I still ended up with a clog.

My fatal mistake was playing chicken with the rising poop water. I held off on plunging thinking it was gonna go down any second now. I was about a second too late.

I agree with you.

Regarding the Government, I think for any extreme weather, it's fine for the state to issue a warning and advisory, For example, it's gonna be very hot, drink more fluids, avoid exercising when the temp peaks if possible, stay in shade, don't cool off in rivers/lakes and be aware of the symptoms of heat related illness, such as heatstroke.

That should be it. The state shouldn't cause any further disruption to peoples lives and public services unless it was like well over 40c approaching 50c or something.

However, completely with you the media then takes such an event and turns it into the main event, as we can see. This is then hijacked by activists within media outlets such as the BBC and wider groups who use it for their own agenda. It's a completely disservice to the public and perhaps this agenda will lead to higher excess deaths by driving up energy prices further and causing higher excess deaths in Winter.

1. The only time I mentioned climate change was to indicate that's not what I have an issue with. Its the nannying and fear-mongering.

2. I quoted you telling me to "fuck off". But I'm the aggressive one? As for me posting 3 times in a row? I've replied a few times to people quoting me, but mostly hours apart as I've been playing Stray all evening! So, no. Get your facts straight.

3. Since you studied climatology at university, how about you estimate for us the carbon footprint of the ongoing hostilities in Ukraine. And explain why you're expelling so much carbon dioxide pitching a bitch-fit at me rather than about that conflict and how that is impacting anthropogenic climate change?
