Holy fuck, is there seriously NOTHING else happening in the world so that we have to endure complete coverage of a photo of a car with paint on it?

YES! :p

Is anyone listening to this guy on BBC News 24... crying over people being near the Prince of Wales, and saying there may need to be banning orders to keep people away from Parliament Square and the center of London for future protests...

isn't the entire point of protests like these to descend on the corridors of power and make loud voices heard? This guy wants to box people off in Hyde Park where they can be ignored

It's pathetic. Just got in from work and turned on the BBC who at their toadying best and this will now be the story for the rest of the night.

It's a goldmine for the 24hr news stations they can talk about this all night.

Cracking a bullet-proof window is quite impressive actually, aside from the custom paint job.

It's more the 'what if' scenario they are running with.

Could have been a hand grenade.

Could have been a proximity mine.

Could have been a terrorist attack.

Perhaps. I just wasn't expecting this level of fear-mongering from the BBC.

Either I made up lies about the Boston Bomber or I fell for someone else's crap. Either way, I have absolutely no credibility and you should never pay any attention to anything I say, no matter what the context. Perm me if I claim to be an insider

Seriously though, that vote sucks balls. So much balls.

It's just the contrast with it being in the midst of student protests.

If it had happened in the middle of the G8 stuff with all the anarchists talk being thrown around it would have seemed more legitimate.

Basically, this is a load of people being dicks under the justification of having a just cause but unable to offer any alternative or many even having any understanding of what it's about. I'd hoped The Sun's headline tomorrow was going to be "Bloody students", but with them trashing bits of London it's gone a bit past that now.

There's been an occupation at my Uni for a good 29 hours now. They've decided to stay "indefinitely", but it's all a bit shit - vague list of demands of OPPOSE ALL CUTS

It's practically expected from a protest now. It'll be interesting to see what the tabloids make of the 'attack' on the car. I wouldn't be surprised if this was the headline, not the hike in tuition fees.

At the economics building in my uni there's a lot of those socialist party posters for the protests where on the list of demands it has "Stop all cuts". On every single one of them someone has circled that phrase and written "You're insane" next to it. :lol

There was a poster up at my uni with "Who was Karl Marx?" on it. Underneath it in black marker somebody had written "SOME CUNT".

Oh yeah it will definitely be the headline, the students have shot themselves in the foot at every step. Whether hijacked by others or not, this was all very predictable. And many have used it as an excuse to behave like dicks, without the need of cheap Jagerbombs for once.

If there was a vote on doubling fees again tomorrow, it would probably pass with flying colours with public support ;)

And going forward this sets the tone of future protests, things will get even messier. No matter how amusing some people may find it all, this really isn't helping anything. The country is fucked in a lot of ways, smashing up a Top Shop isn't going to magically make University education free.

Charles and Camilla car attacked by anarchists and nine police officers seriously injured by mob as MPs vote for rise in student fees
By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

-Prince's limo paintballed on way to Palladium
-20,000 students and activists lay siege to Westminster
-Protesters throw flares, smoke bombs and snooker balls
-Scotland Yard resort to 'kettling' in Parliament Square
-At least 20 arrests, including two for arson and four for burglary
-Fees increase is carried by 323 votes to 302 - majority of 21

Footage showed one policeman lying motionless on the ground. Medics fitted him with a neck brace and used a makeshift stretcher to remove him.
One mounted officer was knocked from his horse as missiles including flares, sticks, snooker balls and smoke bombs were hurled from the crowds across the cordon.

I agree that its probably only the beginning of such protests. Next year is going to be interesting!

You can only piss on memorials so much before someone kicks the crap out of you.

I'm not gonna get too ticked off about statues and flags and building damage...

its stupid of them, it will win them no support, but from their point of view they're having tens of thousands of pounds of debt heaped on them, the cumulative total of which will far outweigh any damage they could have possibly have done.

I personally think I'd rather have come under this new system than the old one (I'd be paying £14 less a month) but the overall debt burden increase IS huge.

Boris Johnson is calling the acts of violence and vandalism "an insult to democracy" - but again, these students will consider the broken manifesto pledge of the Liberal Democrats to be an insult to democracy.

Yep, we've got a fair way to go before the country can get back on track. A few smashed up windows at Topman will be quickly forgotten, although I'm sure some will champion the anti-tax evasion protesting.

Thank God for that.

Now all we need to do is wait a few years for people to graduate under the new system and finally realise how the system actually works and how it doesn't prevent them from doing anything.

Oh come on, this is ridiculous. There is no justification for all this. Anger against the Lib Dems is just the excuse. Their case is confused with no alternative offered, it's basically asking for their cake and eat it.

You want practically everyone going to University? Then it will have to be paid for somehow. Blame Labour for shovelling everyone through University to score political bullet points with the nice side effect of keeping unemployment figures down as well. If it's free at the point of entry and are paying a negligible amount off each month till you are in your 50's then so be it, it's your choice to go in the first place. And there is no magic alternative.

Compared with something like the Poll Tax riots, which was a grossly unfair system as well as political suicide, this is just a load of self-entitled ignorant students running around London trashing the place waving vague 'no cuts' banners.

They are far more insult to democracy than any attempt to try and make a slightly smaller mess out of the already big mess that education and the country in general is in.

The graffiti will be cleaned, the windows will be fixed, parliament square will be cleaned up, and Top Shop on Oxford Street will resume business and clean up as well... it's Christmas...

whereas this change in the student fees system is more permanent.

And don't get me wrong, I actually think the new system is grossly misunderstood. It would be better for me personally, I would be paying less under the new system. I also think you don't get something for nothing, and that Universities have to funded somehow -- so I actually wouldn't have protested myself... certainly not like this, I don't condone it..

I just think the over-emotional reaction to these images of the cenotaph and the Churchill statue will be just that... an over-emotional response. A bit overblown like the BBC's coverage of Charles and Camilla's car getting attacked.
