Uncharted 4 Gameplay Demo [Up: Sony - Was running at 30 fps]

You know it's going to be a quality post when it starts with "Guys", " Hey Guys" or some other such derivative.

Folks really need to learn what "alpha" means. But then again, this is yet another Sony exclusive thread full of concern and shit-posting.

Getting really boring now.

Holy shit!

ND is really guilty of ultra convenient chest high pieces of cover. You can get away with it in urban environments, but out in nature? It's shatters any sense of immersion. I was hoping less cover overall would be used this time around. The rocks all look rather square, too. I'm hoping those are just placeholders.

Looks hot. I play and replay Uncharted for the combat, so this demo hits all the right notes for me. If the enemies talk and interact with each other during gunplay in a meaningful way, like in TLoU, that's another plus.

There was a teaser pic of some mountain/vista and some birds posted last night, where I was 99% certain it was concept art. Seeing the video start off with that scene, in motion, just blew my mind. I'm glad they kept the stylized look of everything, from the environments to the animations.

Time for media blackout. I've seen enough. Saw way too much of UC3 and I've regretted it since.

All of these people badmouthing the graphics, as if there are so many games that look inarguably better.

I feel like a lot of people are either overhyping the graphics or overly downplaying them. It really does look incredible and I don't think there is another game on consoles that looks better. At the same time, I can clearly see weaker areas in the graphics and it definitely isn't the untouchable graphical benchmark that will blow away all graphics on PC that some people claimed.

Yeah, it does stand out, especially that very first chest high piece of cover before you see the mercs/soldiers/whatever.

The thing that really made my jaw drop on this GIF is how Drake's hair seems to be reacting to the splash of water as well.

It's amazing, look at ever part of drake. The water splashes off perfectly, his hair gets wet, his clothes gets wet and the lighting perfectly reflects off his clothes as a result.

ND can never be given enough praise for their attention to detail.

"It looked good but not mindblowing" has to be one of the most used and most useless pieces of criticism one can say, but when it's UC4 that gets the heap of this kind of nonsense, it's funny as hell.
Its not useless at all. Its a personal observation for some people.

And please lets not pretend that U4 is some victimized game, for fuck's sake! lol Naughty Dog gets insane amounts of praise on this board.

Anyways, finally saw the gameplay. Wanted my first watch to be something 'not shit quality' and thank the gods(by which I mean Blim and team) that it was already on Gamersyde!

Gotta say, its a great looking game. I can see why some people aren't absolutely blown away, though. I think all the elements look consistently good across the board, but nothing particularly stands out as mindblowing. The foliage, maybe. That's top notch. But otherwise, everything looks pretty damn great. Textures, lighting, draw distances, all really good stuff.

I would consider this magical/mindblowing if they get it to 60fps. At 30fps, its merely a 'great', which is no shame. I think some people were just expecting miracles.

EDIT: Oh yea, image quality is superb as well from what I can tell. Another reason why I wouldn't expect this to be 60fps in the end.

Eh, didn't seem to be using too much cover at all. The game is more of a run, gun and stealth style game than what it was in the beginning

Light adjusted by KUFI on Gamersyde (all credit to him)

.

While they look amazing, it's sad that it takes something like that to make people realize how much of an upgrade the lighting and models are. The quality is clearly visible to many of us but for others it's shit unless its got extreme contrast and highlights for the entire duration. Might as well keep Drake wet and have it take place at night the entire game.

Looks like a PS1 game

jk :P.

That foilage in the game is absolutely insane. Loving how great foilage in video games are starting to look with this game and Far Cry 4. Shit blows my mind.

Things have to be convenient otherwise you wouldn't have a playable game, you'd have real life that doesn't allow things like this game to happen.

most people who are badmouthing the graphics are comparing it to the engine reveal. that was an engine reveal not a gameplay reveal. this is a gameplay reveal. Hell latest games have not reached the graphics of the Ruby demos of 2004. you have to think if they have the knowledge of distinguishing between an engine reveal and a gameplay reveal while being gamers..

Gotta say, you should not even be allowed to talk about the quality of graphics unless you were at PSX or have seen the gamersyde stuff because holy hell does it look amazing. Little things like the wind direction blowing throw drake's clothes, foliage, lighting reflection on rocks to amazing animation, draw distance and texture quality, this game is the most raw tech showcase of the gen so far considering it is running real time and likely a year off. Incredible, I have to watch it again.

EDIT: Also the game looks really fun? Don't wanna get that lost in the graphics talk, seamless looking encounters.

Most impressive graphics i saw this generation, really looks good.I don't care a lot for 30fps because i don't see any difference when playing,i just want it locked.

The attention to detail in this trailer is amazing.

Mud on clothes.
the waterfall fight, splash of water after he hits the guy in the face.
Hanging from the ledge, with the enemy hanging from on to drakes ankle, after drake kicks him in the face the enemy bleeds from his nose before he falls down.

Good stuff Naughty gods!

EVERYONE NEEDS TO DOWNLOAD THE BITTORRENT GAMERSYDE VIDEO its 100x better than anything else available

have ND confirmed that its going to be 30 instead of 60fps?

There was definitely some output issue with the game or the system used for the demo.

I noticed the stream seemed overly bright. Check the high bitrate version or even the youtube version. The blacks from the captured video are 15/15/15. The blacks in the ESRB rating screen (edited in afterwards) are 0/0/0.

This clearly kills some of the detail and make the lighting appear more flat.

Even so, the high bitrate version looks insanely good. I'm not sure what magic they are using, but it looks incredibly clean.

Nice to see that enemies can lose track of Nate during encounters (at least in this area) and that there will be scenarios where he doesn't need to kill all his foes to advance. That environment looked more fun to play in than all but the absolute best areas of UC3 - I hope they keep focusing on giving the players lots of options beyond "jump behind cover, pop enemies", using jumps, foilage, and one-off tricks to get by. I hope it's the kind of game where the way a given player beats his encounters is likely to be different from the way others do (like The Last of Us was, at its best).

You could play the game and never use cover if you want to be super technical, but that's not my point. My point is that they are designing the environment around being in cover and it shows. They are basically taking that square rock and placing it everywhere. It's blatant and ugly. You can do a lot with rock formations and dense foliage. Just be more intelligent and subtle with it. Hopefully their environment guys are aware.

So easy to pick up the differences from previous Uncharted's and all the changes. It had me going OMFG at any new thing I was able to pick up.
It was pretty funny. I was at work watching it on my phone and some coworkers popped there head into the office to see what was going on because I was all "hahaha, OH MY GOD!"

Rewatched HD Gamersyde video and the graphics are great. However what impressed me the most is the level design and openness and options in the gameplay. And the seamless transitions between shooting, stealth and melee. I think what this was missing was a huge set piece but I am sure Naughty Dog will deliver plenty of those in the final game.

Going by the note Drake picks up and what is written in his journal, this is who the game is about: Thomas Tew, the Rhode Island Pirate.

His ship The Amity, and its flag, are in the journal. Henry Every (Avery in game) is mentioned in the note and IIRC was the person that people suspected to be involved when the first Uncharted 4 teaser was shown.

You can see they borrowed heavily from The Last of Us in terms of enemy encounters which I am glad they did. What better way to improve upon the franchise by getting the idea from your other game.

I'm really impressed with texture detail work. ND artists are really, really talented. Choice of colors like light brown and yellow combined with greenish foliage is really easy on the eyes. There's so much fine detail. With this game it's more about art style and fine detail, than brute force graphics technology I think. People often forget how important is art direction in games. What's the news on 60fps, is that still the plan or they scrapped it...?
