Uncharted 4 spoiler free early copy impressions

Not really because there's nothing wrong with the gameplay and you still play Uncharted 4 like a cover shooter most of the time.

I guess it's like going back to Super Mario Bros 3 or 1 after playing Super Mario 3D world. Super Mario 3D World is easily a masterpiece game but it's easier to jump on SMB? If that's the case, I get it. It's more of a structure thingy.

Either way I may run through the game for a crushing run and the bonuses unlocked sounds like it'll make things fun. I guess I will run on normal and savor the experience.

it just means that in ranked matches are more focused on team play. so yeah, if you're just going solo into a game vs a team with a party you're probably getting wrecked. but that goes for pretty much all MP games.

unranked play probably doesn't contribute towards leaderboards, stats etc

Ok thanks. Parties are encouraged, but I can get into the ranked matches without a full party right?

Damn shame the length might hurt replay value. I mean it's really cool that they change the enemy placement for different difficulties, but what's the point if the game is too long to get through them?

Also would anyone give their impressions of the ending if it is nice and slow like the UC series deserves?

My final thoughts:

The only thing I didn't like about the game was the soundtrack. There's music, yes, but none of it is memorable in any way. It's merely serviceable. I can listen to Uncharted 2's soundtrack and immediately know where the music played in the game. I can also throw it on just to chill out and relax. I can't say the same for this game. Huge disappointment there.

Thanks for the impressions.

Knew this was going to be an issue. Sad to see it is.

Replay value is purely case by case. I think TLOU is just as good as UC2 but I'd rather play UC2 over than TLOU but that's not really a negative imo.

After you beat the game for the first time you can choose chapters/difficulty.

While I understand the context on what you are saying for replay purposes, but never can understand in a story driven game wanting it to be shorter for replay purposes. For me, these games are all about the adventure/story aspect and the more of that the better for me. It is all about that first play through and experiencing a nice long single player game with great visuals, set pieces and story.

While it's still a cover shooter, I'm back to resuming my play through on UC2 and it's way jaring. Still good but those combat options feel so limited now.

I get what he's saying but I felt like when I had to play UC2 after playing the beta it felt a little jarring at first but I quicklky got over it. I've played UC2 5-6 times already so I think I'm done with that game :)

Yes, in spades. Epilogue is TLoU-esque.

I never got the response to the previous time I asked this I think, so thank you, I really needed that answer.

How does that answer your question? You can chapter select in any Uncharted game. If you just play Encounter select you aren't going to get the whole story, but I guess it's better than nothing.

#NoPassion @HollywoodComposers.

I'm sure the dude is passionate about what he does, nor is he a bad composer. Just that a lot of his stuff is very generic, you can name 50 other composers that sound just like him where as Greg Edmonson definitely had his own style.

We'll see.

JimmyFallon is loving this game according to his Twitter lol.

Jimmy Fallon loves everything though, lol.

I love you, we love you, you're great, you're the best, you're amazing = 75% of the shit that comes out of his mouth when he interviews his guests, lol.

To me, when I go back to games like Uncharted I tend to just play the parts I like as the games have a tendency to be uneven (Even the almighty UC2 had me jump straight to nepal anytime I wanted to replay and quit when I usually get to Shambala). Though it's been awhile since I played and wanted to refresh my memory.

However, depending if I find a compelling enough encounter, I might just go ahead and replay that stuff till the end of time.

It's not at all for Story, I don't mind a straight playthrough for the first time.

Very excited for the game overall. :)

Length=/= replay value is subjective. I see people all the time talking about they beat TLOU like 5 times and that game is just as long and slow as this is purported to be. if you love the game, you'll play it again. It's really no big deal.

A game being too long so you dont want to replay it doesnt make sense to you?

It makes sense, but you can just spread it over more days of play, so in the end it's not really an issue per se. Unless of course you wanted to complete it in just a day or two. For me, the longer the better. Last of Us and Resident Evil 4 were better for it.

Yeah I agree.

One thing I dont understand: why are some people that had already finished the game bothered by the "slow paced first chapters"?

I mean, did you guys played UC2, aka the one considered the best in the series?

In the first two chapters there is almost zero combat. The third one, there is literally 1 firefight and the rest is exploration and slowpaced storytelling. The so called "action" starts only in the fourth chapter.

In fact, Naughty Dog games always tend to have a slower pacing in the beginning. That is the case with UC1, UC2, UC3 and TLOU. They make this to build up the mood and to establish their narrative.

Personally, I found these slow paced sections with character exposition and focus on storytelling one of their biggest strenghts. Few developers can make it exciting and enticing as Naughty Dog.

exactly. UC2 doesn't get going until you hit Nepal which is like what chapter 4/5? The first hour or two is that boring museum entry. UC3 is even worst.

Just beat the game.

It's gonna take some time to type up some thoughts.

Took me 13 hours on normal.

What an absolutely phenomenal and brilliant game. A masterpiece for me. Just filled with emotion and feels all around. 10/10.

Man, I'm gonna miss Uncharted...

Actually the fact that the begining moments of Uncharted 4 are slower and in a different light then we're used to seeing with Drake, I really enjoyed it and out of all the games. It makes perfect sense the way it is.

Looking forward to read it!

This. I'm currently replaying through UC2 (going for the plat on crushing) and the first few chapters are definitely slower paced. I'm fine with UC4 starting slow (and from what some impressions are saying in here the intro sounds very good).

I was a bit worried that ND wasn't going to be able to live up to the hype after TLOU but it looks like its another home run. I'm sure there will be some valid complaints (soundtrack) but I can't wait to play it.

darkx10 said the soundtrack was a huge step up for the series, curious to hear for myself.

I just hope there's some emotional tracks and not just generic action music

I think the soundtrack is great, really hypes up the action. I really don't remember much of the other soundtracks in the other games outside the theme. Seems on par if not better.

Seems like there's differing opinions on soundtracks. I for one don't care for UC2's soundtrack despite that being my favorite game in the series. I found UC3's soundtrack really good yet I don't really like UC3 that much.

TLOU which is arguably on par with UC2's soundtrack doesn't do anything for me either.
As long as the music "fits" the situation it doesn't matter to me.

It is much better.

fucking spoiler man. Come on man.

I literally just got the last boss battle spoiled. I mean it was in 8bit mode and blurry but i still kind of "saw" the scene. Oh well.
