If that ends up how we all think it ends up I still think that event should be in episode 9 with the follow up being the season ending teaser.

Do we think (ADWD spoilers)
Jon's death
will be this season?

It seems like that's the speculation with the haircut thing that is going around the web, isn't it? At the very least, it appears that he'll need to be recast or put on the shelf for a season.

No, that's people running with nothing. He cut his hair a few inches, it'll grow back.

Not to mention that he had short hair during the first season, but wore a hairpiece. Who cares how long the actor's hair is?!

This. It's sad to see so many "news" sites coming up with bullshit conjecture over a haircut.

Exactly. Also, even if he doesn't wear a hairpiece, why can't he just, you know... have a change of hairstyle? Look at Jaime throughout the four seasons so far. Besides, Jon even got his hair cut on-screen during the series premiere.

The problem with Jon's "death" is that the real outcome would be spoiled to everyone through casting news, though I guess even if they push it to season 6 people will know how many episodes he's in.
I think the most likely approach is to have a Stannis scene in the finale right before the Battle on Ice. S06E01 Jon receives the pink letter, for the watch, etc. E02 we get to see what happens after the battle (no way they're gonna spend their battle episode with Stannis alone, it'll be siege of meereen for sure) and Mel revives Jon.

Emilia Clarke could get a short pink mohawk and it wouldn't mean shit because she wear (bad) wig. He didn't even change the hairstyle, he just cut it a bit.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh boy

Has potential to be as upsetting as the RW, especially with a certain demographic..

Get the popcorn ready.

Are we still talking about this? He cut an inch or two off because it was TOO LONG, then slicked his hair back. It looks exactly the same except for the motor oil in it.

Almost finished book one. Can someone tell me why certain people in the book, including Eddard, always refer to Stannis as the rightful heir to Robert Baratheon? What about the eldest bastard son of Robert? He's called Gendry in the show but I don't think they ever revealed his name was Gendry in the first book (though I might have missed that). Is Stannis the rightful heir because he happens to be of noble birth (not born out of wedlock) and so even though he isn't a son of Robert's, his inheritance takes precedence over a trueborn son, because that trueborn son's mother was not Robert's own wife?

exactly, the oldest brother has a bigger claim than any bastard

And because he is the Mannis and does what needs to be done.

Also if you are reading the first book, and/or I assume you are up to date with the show, this thread may not be for you, there are big spoilers all around. Careful!

Yup, finishing the first book and I'm caught up with the show. I like to use this thread because I think instead of googling and accidently stumbling into news that (fake spoiler) some crazy thing happens to Stannis in book five, it'd be safer to drive-by post here, look only at posts that respond to my own post, and then be on my way.

Uh yeah? How did you miss the whole "bastards have no claim" thing that permeated the whole book with Jon Snow? Gendry isn't trueborn, trueborn means within wedlock, not outside of it.

But Gendry isn't Robert's trueborn son, he is a bastard.

Alright I misused the term trueborn.

I thought it was obvious why Jon Snow would have no claim to an inheritance compared to Eddard's other children. I for sure did not miss that.

- EW: 'Game of Thrones' IMAX release delayed (to make it even bigger)
IMAX is pushing back its Game of Thrones plans. Why? To make the release even bigger.

Now the acclaimed fantasy hit will come to IMAX theaters on Jan. 29, one week later than originally announced. But Thrones will also be in about 200 theaters instead of the originally planned 150. The change was “prompted by extraordinary consumer response that drove online mentions for IMAX to record heights, will allow for an expanded domestic roll-out,” the theater company said.

More news: IMAX has released its full list of theaters getting the presentation of HBO’s acclaimed fantasy hit (so at least now you’ll know how far you have to go to see it!).

Thrones will screen in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Montreal, New York, San Antonio, Seattle, Toronto, Washington, D.C. and other cities. The presentation includes the final two episodes of season 4 — “The Watchers on the Wall” and the Emmy-nominated “The Children” — as well as an exclusive trailer previewing the upcoming fifth season, which gets underway April 12. Thrones will still screen for just one week.

Game of Thrones has the honor of being the first TV series to ever receive a run in the super-sized cinema format. The episodes will be digitally re-mastered to be compatible with the plus-sized IMAX format.

The full list of theaters is available on the IMAX site here. Tickets go on sale Friday, Jan. 16.

Wait, wait, wait.

Where are people finding proof that
Jon actually dies at the end Dance with Dragons?

It seems open-ended, unless there's a released chapter from WoW that concretely proves it.

IMO, it can easily still be up in the air, but it didn't look very promising..

Unmarked spoilers all books dude. And where are you seeing people finding proof of such a notion?

Also, if Jon is dead dead, it's very bad storytelling on GRRM's part.

I mean, I'm pretty sure he's dead, but not dead dead. Melisandre will give him the breath of life or something.

That's where I was pulling that idea from - I mean, you're right - it just seems like a convenient narrative device for him to experience Melisandre's influence.

For some reason, I thought there was information I'd missed during my readings or that had been released online. Good to know it's still speculative.

I heard non-readers were freaked out because Kit apparently cut his hair and part of his contract was that he couldn't. So they assumed that meant he dies or something.

I haven't talked to many people that actually thought Jon was permanently dead though.

Is Gendry going to reappear back in the show at any point? Seems odd to just have the last of Roberts bastards floating around and not do anything with him.

They still have Robert's other bastard, the show version of Podrick.

Jon's "dying" just seems like a way to get him out of his Night's Watch oath along with the whole being "reborn" thing.

There's no definitive proof right now but I don't think it's a coincidence that GRRM mirrored Jon's last moments in ADwD with those of Robb in ASoS. They were both attacked without warning and they both called out their wolf's names as their last acts (implying they warged into them) before being stabbed by people they trusted. The problem with Robb was that Grey Wind was killed shortly after that (after it really went crazy killing a bunch of people before being taken down) and he didn't have someone to revive him close by like Jon does.

Gendry will row into the burnt-out husk of King's Landing in the final scene of the last episode of the series. Corpses everywhere. The only two survivors are barely alive themselves: Dany and Stannis weakly wrestling over a dented, ash-covered crown. Gendry shrugs, gets back in the boat, and rows away. Fin.

What if Gendry takes Aegon's role in the show?

:0

And what if Jon Arryn is actually alive and takes Jon Connington's role in the show because D&D.

Then we all complain when Arryn has been recast from the original dead guy on the slab in the pilot.

Man they are really pushing the Arya angles in these teasers.

They really are. I'm kind of worried Arya is the only plot that turned out well, so they're just pushing her like crazy now, lol. I'm sure they just have numbers that say Arya's the most marketable piece of the show, though.

As for the teasers themselves, it looks like all old footage, save the shot of Arya at the doors. Only think I didn't recognize was the non-Arya one looks like it has a shot of someone breaking pots, and I don't know what that is.

Arya ultimately having the best plotline out of all characters in season 5 is highly in the realm of possibility in my opinion. It's the easiest one for book->screen transition in these worldbuilding setup behemoths too.

Still on leaning towards Trystane = Aegon for the show.

We'll see how they handle that plotline, after all, a paper dragon is still a paper dragon no matter what.

I agree. fAegon is something that seems to large to cut especially when George has said there will be a second dance of the dragons. If they haven't cast Young Griff but have cast a seemingly unimportant character like Trystane it makes me think there's a good chance he is their fAegon.

Living in the shadow of Amaz
They're hyping up Arya because it'll probably be the only plotline worth caring about from now on (maybe alongside Jon's).

The rest they'll either make up as they go or simply cut, so...
