Until Dawn Remake price leaked (€70, $60, £60)

Technically a remaster, since this is keeping the original game's story, voice acting, camera angles, etc. and just replacing the graphics and lighting.

by that logic, sotc, demon souls, and even TLOU1 would be just remasters.

p.s they have changed the camera angles to third person in some scenarios and changed others to better showcase the new graphics. they have also added a prologue. its no RE4 but its better than those remasters we got last gen like the uncharted trilogy, tlou hd remaster and batman arkham remasters.

Might have done well at $40. Shame they're sending this out to die.
expecting console people to fundamentally pay premium for a 'remade' 9 year old, last gen game that still looks/plays great & is cheaply available? just because you also want to sell it on pc? then charge premium for the pc version, &, if you want to sell any at all on console, at least halve the price...

with the advent of ps5 'remake fever', sony's been progressively slipping into delusional territory...

You can play the PS4 version on PC? Interesting... 🤔

This is quite simple. Because of the impending movie the game got a remake for PC, and because the PC remake exists, there is an updated PS5 version. Unless folks want them to charge a pittance on PC or have vastly different prices between the PC and PS5 versions, this is what was always going to happen, and will always happen with any remakes.

It happened with TLOU Part 1 as well. When Bloodborne inevitably gets a PS5/PC version, it'll be the same thing. Why folks are still befuddled over this is the truly baffling thing.

Problem is this will bomb on PC at £50-£60 regardless of whether a movies is coming out, both the film and this port are 10 years too late

A proper sequel with actors from the game in the film would have done far far better.

None of us have any clue how well it'll do, the market will decide that. It's a well regarded game coming to a new platform and it's coming out before Halloween, so it might have a shot at moving some numbers. And how worthwhile and successful a project it turns out being depends on the budget of this remake, which we don't know either.

And yes, there're more than a few people who think an Until Dawn 2 is in the works, possibly at Firesprite or at Ballistic Moon. This is not necessarily an either/or scenario.

What's going on with her eye
lol

Hope you sony fanboys like to waste that money.
Did they remodel her based on how she looks now(older)?

If they didn’t and just deliberately made her look older via forehead lines and bigger eyebags then that basically misses the point of a bunch of high school and college kids doing a vacation.
She's fine in the newer screenshots.

The most unnecessary remake of all time.

IMO that was The Last of Us Part 1, though I guess since it rode on the success of the TV show there was a good financial incentive.

Until Dawn movie hasn't even released yet and won't for some time. Also no telling if it's gonna be good or crap. The original game is still quite playable.

But the other rumor is this is being done to drum up hype for a sequel.

how much % is the tax usually in the US?

In my state there's a 6.25% online sales tax; some states actually still don't tax you if you purchase online (lucky them).

So in theory there's at least one state in the US where you can buy it online and not pay taxes or even S&H.

Yeah, I expected this to cost less. I mean, Demon's Souls was a launch title in a time where almost everything PS5-only was also $70 (Returnal and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart), and The Last of Us is The Last of Us.
But as I said before, this was never a D1 from me, so I'm good with waiting.
Now, I wonder how much Lego Horizon Adventures will cost? I mean, I wouldn't complain if it's $60 as well, considering that it's a NEW game that actually looks pretty good.

TLOU was a PS3 game. This one was a PS4 game. Way more ridiculous.

Until Dawn on the PS5 at 60 FPS still looks better than most games (even from Supermassive)

"If you don't want a game, don't buy it. Maybe you're not the target audience."

Well, no shit. Just saying that Sony could have gotten an even bigger target audience by making different choices.

Charging $70 for a remaster of a PS4 game is ridiculous. They will probably sell some copies, but it could have been a much more enticing product.

I dont even think that it will be a much better looking remake like Demons Souls or TLOU were. From what Ive seen from trailers, some scenes will look arguibly better on the original.

They're two years apart in release dates and the remakes are two years apart.

If you want to play the PS4 version, go ahead and play it.

You have no idea the audience this game will have once they release a movie. If the movie does well, the game will sell gangbusters not only on PlayStation but on PC.

You just don't have a leg to stand on here.

TLoU Part 1 released 4~ months before the HBO show premiered.

The movie hasn't even begun shooting* edit: it has begun shooting as of a few days ago, let alone have any semblance of a release window.

By the time the movie comes out, they're gonna need to release a remaster of this remake if they want to capitalize similarly.

They're releasing it before Halloween, which is a key time for horror games to sell. Sony does like to have games to align with their transmedia projects, but they don't always align perfectly and that's alright.

If there is an Until Dawn 2 in the works then getting this game out now could be necessary to give it breathing room before the second game gets announced.

of all the games to choose to remake they chose Until Dawn lol

Go ahead and articulate what the issue is :)

I thought you were talking about Supermassive and I was like that’s probably the only game they have made that is really good. But then I realized you were talking about Sony so it makes more sense.

I suspect they chose it because it was well received at the time and it still looks good so minimal work in getting it “remastered”.

It's a live-action horror movie with minimal VFX, so it will probably be out by Halloween of next year.

So even if by that point the remake is 1 year old, I don't see where the issue would be with that. Take the Fallout and Witcher shows for instance: by the time those came out, the most recent releases from both of those franchises were around half a decade old, yet they sold like crazy anyway.

Technically a remaster, since this is keeping the original game's story, voice acting, camera angles, etc. and just replacing the graphics and lighting.

It is a remake because they remade all of the visuals from the ground up. It would have been a remaster if they had only upped the resolution, framerate and the quality of very select assets from the original game - as it was the case with this generation's The Last Of Us Part II, Ghost of Tsushima, Death Stranding and Uncharted remasters.

They're also fleshing out the story with some new sequences, introducing an over-the-shoulder third-person camera, new items and interactions, among various other adjustments to the original Until Dawn. So it isn't a 1:1 remake as Demon's Souls and The Last Of Us Part I either.

Why not replay the PS4 version you already have? If you got rid of it, should be cheap digitally ir for physical copies.

Like what are the enhancement going to do here? It’s not a game where having more FPS or RT going to do much.
cause it runs like crap, did you people forget? This is also adding more content to the intro

They sold relatively crazy but at their heavily discounted price points, FO4 was selling for $9.99 through the year. Bethesda would have LOVED to have a new FO game at full price around the same time.

Until Dawn is mid at best and noone was asking for a remake. Not exactly an issue but it seems pointless. And then full price on top of that? :messenger_tears_of_joy:

It's a game with a bit of a cult following that sold well enough (4 million copies) and is getting a movie adaptation. And most importantly it's getting a PC version, which is a key reason why there is an updated PS5 version.

As for the price, the market will decide if it's a worthwhile price to pay, only time will tell.

Sure.

Although in the case of Until Dawn, I'm not expecting such steep discounts because that was more of a thing during the 7th and 8th gens than it is now. For instance, the single most discounted regular PS Studios game this generation has been Sackboy, going from USD$59.99 at launch to USD$19.79 today when on sale, followed by Demon's Souls, Ghost of Tsushima, Ratchet & Clank and Returnal, all of which go down from a regular price of USD$69.99 down to USD$29.39 on sale. All other PS5 games go on sale for USD$39.89 (The Last Of Us Part I is included here) or above, from their regular USD$69.99 price tags.

What I'm trying to say is that I doubt Sony is worried that the Until Dawn remake would be totally devalued by the time the movie comes out, around one year after its launch, since data suggests us that it may very well retain a price tag of either 30 or 40 bucks when on sale for years to come.

I'd have taken a Killzone remaster, they did the HD PS3 ports but I imagine that's up to Sony more than anything

I haven't played this as the genre of QTE based David Cage walking sims are not what I play, friends raining praises on the original game has me interested enough because I like the slasher genre in films, so I'll bite this on PC.

No way at full price though. Less than $20, so probably next year's summer sale.

Does this have co-op/splitscreen co-op or just strictly single player only?
