Hey we're 2 for 2 on debates where old white guys try to shut smart sensible women up by speaking loud nonsense. #VPDebate

Yeah I thought he'd be too timid and get rolled. I had no idea he had that kind of fire. He was a fact-spitting machine once he got warmed up. Incredible responses to Pence's vague spin.
I liked this side of him.

He needs to refine his fervor a bit, but I think he effectively drove Pence into a corner and kept him there almost the entire debate.

Saw someone on Twitter say that Pence won the debate but Kaine is gonna win the post-debate debate, when all the fact checking and analysis comes into play

I like Pence more stylistically, but after a rough opening Kaine was pretty effective, and by the final third he was really good.

Pence is the better debater. His problem is everything Trump. Kaine didn't control the pace and interrupted a bit much. My gut says Pence won, but he couldn't deny almost any accusation against Trump. Good face, little substance.

There's no question that Pence was the more composed debater, but I really don't think Trump comes out of this looking any better, and that's what the real purpose of this was about.

My view:

In the end, this debate will matter nil to the next two. All Kaine had to do was not fuck up, and he didn't.

Yeah, the polls aren't going to do shit cause of this. Kaine did what he needed to, which was keep attention off Hillary and onto Trump, and by that measure it was a rousing sucess.

If Kaine didn't have such a rough start, I would've said he won hands down. As it is, it's a tie, or a slight Kain win because he stayed winning for longer.

Again though. It doesn't matter who "won" the debate. What matters is the narrative, and Kaine controlled thst the whole time, and the narrative is what the media's going to talk about after tonight and tomorrow morning.

Kaine did everything that Hillary couldn't. Hillary can't be aggressive. Hillary can't call out Trump as much as Kaine did.

Kaine wanted to pin Pence with everything that is Trump. He had to break some eggs to do so. I believe this is what Hillary wanted Kaine to do. To not give Pence a break at all and make him acknowledge Trump. And when Pence hesitates or argue that Trump did not do something that can easily be fact checked it makes Pence look uninformed on his candidate and it brings attention to the crazy things Trump have said.

I listened to half the debate on the radio, the other half on TV.

Kaine won on radio, Pence on TV.

When I switched from the NBC News YouTube stream to the a local Fox 10 stream, Kaine came across much better. They didn't do the PiP framing and had better camera angles.

NBC News has generally fucked up these last two debates.

PBS analysts feel Kaine dominated although Pence had a more steady demeanor.

Which is easy when you look like you're straight out of Night of the Living Dummy.

Pence will win the debate polls, but he basically disavowed Trump completely lol. But we have seen why Republicans are so damn effective. They just completely lie when confronted with the terrible shit they have done.

If you completely ignore facts, the reality we face in 2016 and focus solely on how they talked I guess you could say Pence won

While I don't think this will effect the race too much, I do this debate may looked at a little closer by voters this year because of how much both canidates seem to be disliked by various Americans. It may be an opportunity for someone that hates them both to get a better idea of which party to go with.

Either way, interesting debate. Much better than the horrible thing we got out of the first Presidential debate. Pence reeks of shit, but he's much, much more stable than Trump and made for something fierce. Good to see Kaine was able to keep up, but I think he wants Trump, not Pence. If Kaine was going after Trump like that there would have been a funeral. Pence just brushed them off in a way that looked fine for most people watching.

All the news cycles for the next few days are just gonna be showing Trump saying something and then showing Pence at the debate saying "He didn't say that"

I see your point, wonder how the debate would have gone if he didn't have to go on the defensive so often because of trump.

Put Jeb or Rubio at the top of the ticket and Pence would've handily won that.

There's no question that Pence was the more composed debater, but I really don't think Trump comes out of this looking any better, and that's what the real purpose of this was about.

He does not. And for anyone that didn't watch tonight, tomorrow's reporting will be about Pence being completely unable to defend Trump. They show Pence saying it didn't happen, next to a clip of Trump saying it.

Pence clearly won, unfortunately. But I doubt it matters. As a Clinton supporter, I'm glad this is the only VP Debate.

I mean, really, do you think any person is going to decide their position based on this debate?

I really don't think he did. He kept denying that he and Trump said and did things that they actually said and did. He basically shed his ticket's convictions, and that's an admission that the platform itself is so reprehensible that the second guy on the ballot would rather outright lie than try to defend it.

Pence may have won but once the spotlight is back on trump it's over again. Come Sunday this will all be forgotten. Neutral all said and done.

Pence staying mostly even keeled, yet spewing nonsense, is not a win in any sense.

He wasn't able to put up a defense of any of Trump's indiscretions. None of them.

Anyone else kind of pumped to see a Liberal show some teeth? Imo this was the right situation for it. The debate itself will move the needle very little (if at all,) but the talking points that will emerge from it could matter, and I feel like Kaine's approach was good (if overdone at times) in this respect.

Pence looked more composed and uh, solid. Think he won this one.

Thing is, Pence's name is second on the ticket.

Pence won if you see this debate as Pence vs. Kaine. But the job of the VP candidate is to make a stronger case for the person at the top of their ticket, and Pence failed miserably at his task.

Those who are saying that either Pence or Kaine handily won: Are you judging that based on your perception of who was better at debating, which of them changed more votes, or some other criteria?

As a few others have mentioned, the secret to the VP debate is that it's all about defending and/or attacking running mates. In that regard, Kaine won, because he kept Pence at the defense and made him defend Trump, which he couldn't since no one can actually defend Trump's shit, and he was so on the defensive that there was very little discussion about Hillary at all. Pence may have been more composed overall, but he really failed at the key point of the VP debate: defending your running mate.
