VGLeaks: First look as Durango XDK (always connected, kinect required, must install)

Always online?
Ehhh, not really like but not a deal breaker.

Games required to be installed?
Sweet, I install all mine anyway.

Kinect required to be plugged in?
FUCK OFF!

MS really wants me to be PS4 only this gen.

Things might not be much different on the PS4.

At least the controller is changing. Thank Mars for that.
Kinect being packed in, bleh. They're both packing in stupid cameras.

Always connected...

At least the controller is changing. Thank Mars for that. Will be nice for PC gaming.

I'm looking forward to whatever controller Oculus is working on. That company does not fuck around when recognizing what is important to gaming. Controller elegance is not nearly as important as ergonomics and functionality. I can almost guarantee button placement will be vastly superior to the shitsipping controllers we have now. When you can't see your hand the buttons must be placed in reasonable positions.

This will be completely unacceptable when you can't see the controller. Finally! Change is coming. Let's see what you got, MS.

Who the hell holds a controller like that?

Always on always connected and only being able to play my games through the HDD rubs me in the wrong way.

Why? I actually like those features. Load times will be better that way. Just means when you turn it off, it goes into a low power state...but still connected so it will be able to download updates. Also instant on....no more waiting for the console to boot up.

I suspect the PS4 will be always on/always connected also.

Always connected.....

to patch your game.

And your system... and your apps... actually didn't Sony announce something similar for the PS4 ? "the system will analyze your gaming habits and will download demos and games before you even ask for it".
It's not different from phones or OS having an auto-update feature.

But the document mentions that the purpose of being always connected is to allow automatic updates. There's no mention of it being a requirement to play.

How are they going to authenticate that the games you have installed on the HDD are yours (i.e. activated for your account) when you go to play something?

Always connected.....

to patch your game.

LOL. Come on man.
One of the features of PS+ is that the PS3 fires up at a set time to download updates for X number of recently played games, as well as any PS3 firmware updates. Why is it so unbelievable that Durango will do the same, except updates will just be rolled out whenever they're available, rather than checked for at a set time?

EDGE wins again. So far they've been exactly right.

- Always on, Always connected
don't care. My computer is always on and always connected when I am at home. Plus I have a smart phone also, that is always on and always connected....of course unless it's for DRM purposes. Then fuck you Microsoft

- Kinect sold with every console, wider FOV, no motors, better tracking
fuck you Microsoft

- Kinect is required to be plugged in
fuck you Microsoft. Thanks for making my decision easier.

god I hope all of this shit is old of bullshit....Microsoft can't be this fucking stupid.

Nevermind the always online, I don't understand how Kinect + will be required to use the system. Some people's gaming setup, be it in their living room or bedroom, just doesn't allow the space for someone to stand up and wave at the camera. Or at least people are not willing to re configure their living space to use this device.

I hope the sensor is powerful enough so that people don't have to make these changes, or at least that it just has to be plugged in (but not used) to use all the features of the system.

I'd say it just has to be plugged in. Not necessarily used.

And when you need too upgrade the HDD after 10-20 game installs, and need to reinstall you buy the game again? Don't play with your dog with the disc ;P ;P

Technically, if the disc had some kind of unique identifier, the xbox store could let you download another copy of the game as the disc is useless on another console.

Technically.

Thats basically what its gonna be. The disc copies itself to your hdd, you play the content from there and then its either:

1. the disc needs to be in the tray to play your game, like some games this gen
2. the disc is registered to your account, eliminating used games

Ah, that makes sense. The disk being in the tray makes sense. Hopefully it's nothing more than that. I'd like it if PS4 did the same thing as well. I hate load times.

The always on, always connected thing doesn't read like its an actual requirement at all, more like the system has been designed to run that way power draw wise ( and for background downloadsmetc while in a low power state) rather than it being an absolute requirement.

I'm looking at that this way, if you needed to be connected to the internet to play games there would've been a DRM acknowledgment or such with how games are ran and played.

Because always online isn't required for PS Plus.

Always needing to be online and Kinect having to always be plugged in, means MS can take Durango and shove it up their stupid asses.

If this turns out true, I really hope the next Xbox is a colossal failure.

I'm just an average man with an average life
I work from 9 to 5, hey, hell I pay the Durango's price
All I want is to be left alone playing my Gears of War
But why do I always feel like I'm in the Xbox Zone?

I always feel like MS is watchin' me
And I have no privacy
Oh, oh, oh, I always feel like MS is watchin' me
Tell me is it just a dream

When I come home at night
I bolt the door real tight
People send me a friend request I'm trying to avoid
Well, can the people on Xbox Live see me or am I just paranoid

When I'm in the shower, I'm afraid to wash my hair
‘Cause I might open my eyes and find Don Matrick standing there
People say I'm crazy, just a little touched
But maybe showers remind me of Bill Gates too much, that's why

I always feel like MS is watchin' me
And I have no privacy
Oh, oh, oh, I always feel like MS is watchin' me
Who's playin' tricks on me

All games required to be installed. Here is your 100GB base drive. Please upgrade to 500GB for the low price of $199.99.

Always kinected!

I have still yet to hear some good "leaks" about the nextbox. If even some of this is true, then I will seriously consider getting a PS4.

Things might not be much different on the PS4.

I can live with everything except Kinect. MS can go screw themselves if they they can force feed me that crap.

I don't think Sony's dual camera or whatever it is will be required or they would have spent time on it during the reveal. Guess we will all know at E3.

The SDK says Kinect is mandatory but it doesn't say an internet connection is mandatory, yet it talks about about always on?

Always connected but not actually used to authorize games. That is one way to possibly read it. Most people have devices that are always on.

Who in the heck would hold a controller like that? Jesus that looks so uncomfortable, you are doing it wrong.

2. the disc is registered to your account, eliminating used games

I didn't see that in the XDK description text posted here anywhere but if that ends up the case, nice knowing ya Microsoft.

Sure they probably get tons of developer support, but sales probably wont be that funny to look at.

It really seems kind of silly to render a disc completely useless once it's registered. You'd think they'd just have publishers sell activation codes or something instead.

To me it sounds like the Wii24/7 service, where the console was constantly checking for updates in idle mode, not an always online DRM.

But GAF loves to hate everything Durango related, so maybe I should join the apocalypse theories.

I bugged out and just bought 100 PS2's and 50 Xbox's, have a dozen Gamecubes, preserved of course. I'm going to use a phone line and a Dreamcast to play and communicate with the outside world.

And your system... and your apps... actually didn't Sony announce something similar for the PS4 ? "the system will analyze your gaming habits and will download demos and games before you even ask for it".

Yeah but this is Microsoft so its JUST AWFUL.

always on/connected = running in a low-power state when turned off. Same as PS4. What people want to know is if you can play games without being connected but this doesn't really say. Based on other rumors, I would say no

I'm not even trolling when I say this but I'm genuinely happy I'm not interested in the next Xbox console. Because if I was, all these rumours would sting. There's too much smoke for there not to be fiyahhhh.

*reads thread*
*assumptions, hyperbole, people proclaiming the end times, ps4 proponents enjoying themselves*

Yup!

*leaves threa....

Actually, I will say this. The docs for a development kit, even if this is real, do not necessarily reflect the full functionality of the final machine.

Curious as to how much storage this thing is coming with.

Thanks to knee-jerk reactions in this thread and others I am also looking forward to the final reveal. I am not sure what Microsoft has done to people to make them believe that the one manufacturer who has always had game license flexibility and online-service provision right, first time, is suddenly going to start fucking things up!
