Well, I played Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles for the first time today.

Now, I think it should be noted that it was just me and another friend so I wasn't able to have the full experience, but from what we played it doesn't seem that much fun. The thing that I find most annoying is that while one person carrys it around as soon as a monster appears by the time he or I drop the bucket thing it's already dead. It seems as if the bucket carryer gets the short end of the stick. Am I doing something wrong, or did Square totally miss the boat with FFCC? On paper it seems like a good idea, sure, but playing it seems like the person with the bucket doesn't get to do anything but run around not to mention you walk slower than the other guy so most of the time my friend had to stop before we could continue.

Being the Bucket Dude sucks.
I didn't find the game to be very enjoyable. The combat is too slow and too simple, and there is very little co-op/competition going on. It's a single player experience cut and pasted to be a multiplayer one.

4 swords is a much better waste of money.

Four Swords is infinitely better. The bucket is the worst idea ever. I guess you can take turns or something, but that onlymeans you will have a bad time half the time instead of all of the time.

I had fun with FFCC until I realized I had to start repeating worlds to progress. I couldn't convince anyone to keep playing once that happened. :lol

Theres no point in playing the game unless you play it with 3 or 4 people. The first time i played it single player at my friend's house i stopped after 5 minutes- it was horrible. Then i started a new game with 2 friends.... It turned out to be one of the best multiplayer games this gen for me.

I never got into it. The GBA requirement was a real limiting factor for me, since playing games in a group of my friends is pretty spur of the moment, and I only own 2 GBAs.

I did get a whole bunch of store credit for trading it in though.

No way guys, FFCC is a great 4 player experience, I would say that Four Swords is the better connectivity title (and we found it more fun) but FFCC is well worth your time if you have the gear to play it the way it was intended (3 other friends with GBA's (cue the PA strip :lol)).

I wouldn't go as far to say that it's a single-player game tacked on to be multiplayer at all, the way that the spells combine together to create different effects ensures this, and with different character classes having different advantages we find ourselves looking to each other for new weapon designs / cheaper items / weapon forging etc.

The bucket isn't a problem, well we haven't found it to be a problem at all, it just needs someone to carry it around and dump it when we run into some monsters, fight, pick it up again and carry on. I'm the main bucket carrier (one of my friends will pick it up occasionally) and am happy to be, I don't mind carrying it at all.

Maybe those of you who didn't think much of the game either didn't have enough players or weren't working well together to combine spells etc.?

The bucket is an interesting social element that doesn't make much sense until you have at least three players. I agree, it is mostly annoying for two players, but the problem of the monsters dying too quickly will go away as you get deeper into the game. What you have to realize is that the bucket holder chooses the path to take and is responsible for everyone's health; it is a honorary position, and if the other players are smart, they will keep the holder happy by letting him get some coins and spells. Not to mention that you want everyone to be well equipped for the bosses.

I wonder how FF:CC DS will play.

Will it be a single player game? or will it retain the same multiplayer aspect?

If it's focus is on mulitplayer, I seriously hope S-E incorporates an online option.

I never really minded holding the bucket, because then you were basically in control of the whole group and had to, for lack of a better term, 'mother' them. Also, you were integral in most boss battles because the bucket holder had to get in close to the beast so the others could do their jobs.

As far as the game itself goes, I had a good group of friends to play with it and we had a really fun time. We were usually very cooperative (which I like more than Four Swords "set everyone on fire" mentale) and were pretty fair about divying up the spoils at the end of each level, especially if everyone took a sort of 'class.' For instance, I was a Yuke and therefore good at magic, so I handled all of the curing. When a cure ring was offered at the end of a level, I was the one who got it. I also really enjoyed the magic system when the combination stuff was put into effect, such as performing Gravity on a flying monster to make it a lot easier. It wasn't perfect, and definitely could have used more instances that made it useful, but it was fun.

My main gripe with the title was that switching items and stuff was a monster and a half on the GBA, although I believe that could have been solved had they streamlined the menus a bit more. There were like a dozen of them and there really only needed to be four if they had just made you select stuff like mail on a submenu.

I found it's ... environment, how the world to be set up to be real nice. Just the plot was retarded and the gameplay left a lot to be desired. The last few stages were a pain if you were alone.

This is true, for sure. It's hardly a pick up and play game for people who haven't played RPGs before because of this insanity.

I also enjoyed the random cutscenes as you travelled from place to place, and saw a few that were quite hilarious at the time, and a few that were quite sad as well.

I really hope they keep the same flavor with the DS version and put out a really rocking 3D engine for it. FFCC's graphics were amazing and perfect for the game, and I'd like to see a reasonable facsimile on the DS.
