Where did all the fake hate for Herman Hulst come from?

Andrew House was CEO for around 6 years, launched the PS4. No one hated him as far as I can remember.

Firewalk was acquired during Jim Ryan's tenure. The GaaS initiative was started under Jim Ryan. Most of the games in development right now were started when Jim Ryan was CEO.

I've yet to see someone outline specific things Hulst has done that makes him a bad leader for Playstation.
He was in a leadership position long before he took over as CEO.

I dont really care about man, i would say Druckmann has more fake hate going for him. My issue with Hulst is just thinking if hes behind all Horizon ip expansion

It’s for things like this why we can’t convince any other government to legalise marihuana.

I had ALL Killzone games day one, Killzone 2 and 3 are master pieces.
You had KillZone 1 day one? I didn't really pay attention to KillZone until the PS3 trailer, it had a nice run in the PS3 / PSP era but even the really nice graphics on PS4 wasn't enough to keep people's interests. Horizon sold more in its 1st game than all the KillZone games put together so yes We killed it.

Is this some troll strategy? He doesn't even talk enough for people to mention him everyday on NeoGaf . When I see his name randomly being brought up I just assume you all was told to do this in some discord meeting or something.
It's delusion. People like to think they know what his strategies are despite knowing absolutely nothing about the man or his job. They built up something in their mind to hate.

A lot of gamers are dumb.

Guy made an awesome engine, gave it to Kojima to make an awesome game, made a best selling new IP himself, and keeps to himself without crazy interviews while getting the job done. Not sure what all the hate is about myself.

Right, but it's coming. It all took so long due to the restructuring in 2021.
Also, no? When was Sony Japan producing games from SK and CN before 2021? Literally never.

They didn't but xdev europe did. Sony didnt had any games from China and SK before and tbh do we even know to what extent they are involved in some of those games. We know that Japan Studios had the idea for bloodborne and approached from Software for the game.

Hulst was stupid to close it and he deserves the hate.

What does Kinect have to do with launching successful first party games on ps5?
Launching what? Another new Horizon nobody cares about? Concord? Until Dawn remake?

Being a leader is about a vision and a plan and he seems to be good at churning out soulless remakes and burning the platform's long term viability for short term cash. He is a disaster. Quite frankly, after Concord, I thought the discussion was totally over, this guy is clueless and has no idea what the market wants and where things are headed. There is no debate on it anymore.

Well sony strategy for my personal tastes has been absolutely horrible this gen ... low first party production, drop in quality with bad sequels, stupid remakes/remasters, DEI flooding their western studios, bad GAAS push...

I could blame Jimboz but he is gone.. so throwing the blame on Hulst is the next best thing.. and all reports puts him as the Concord project supporter at Sony.

My playstation has become a priority multiplat machine for the first time since forever. And I have all the money I want with absolutely zero incentive to buy a ps5pro .

So to each their own ... but sony and theirs western ceo right now can go eat shit

From Stellar Blade's credits, as much as Freedom Wars.

And that's where their creative input stopped.

Yet you haven't brought up any convincing argument for this, and it wasn't a closure either.

Damn all that by himself.

I love when people purposely avoid mentioning stuff that doesn't fit their narrative. Even when I don't agree about 2/3 of these being bad, you can't possibly think that of Stellar Blade or Astro Bot. Hey, everyone knows Death Stranding 2 and Ghost of Yotei will suck, sure...?

Stellar Blade received the same level of support as a small handheld game? That’s surprising.

We need to see more ambitious collaborations from dev. Seriously, where are the Japanese games? It feels like empty words when he claimed they were still important to him and Sony after taking over. A Spencer-style lie, honestly.

Most unique games in sonys line up
Better and more collaborations
Cheaper than all his gaas shit

No its wasn't a closure. He just fired 80% of the people.

I’m glad sales are going ok for the upper guys. But you were talking about software power. Show me these four years of PS5 exclusives.

“Exclusives” doesn’t matter because I know you’re going to be like “bububu crossgen”, I’m talking about software released on PlayStation consoles in general during this time

Demons Souls
Miles Morales
Returnal
Ratchet
Horizon FW
GT7
God of War Ragnarok
Spider-Man 2
Helldivers 2
AstroBot

Not to mention partnership projects:
Sifu
Stray
Kena
FF16
Stellar blade
Rise of ronin
FF7R

And of course lots of remasters

Compare to ps1/ps3/ps4 and it’s night and day

Let me guess all those games were handmade by hust himself as well.

Sigh, if I didn't need any more reason to believe you're just too clueless about this topic...
The same level of support as New Minna no Golf. Happy?
We need to see more ambitious collaborations from dev.
Just so you can complain that they're second-party, maybe...
Seriously, where are the Japanese games?
GT7, ROTR and Astro Bot, with DS2 coming up soon. And I already told you that SIEJ produces more than Japanese games these days.
It feels like empty words when he claimed they were still important to him and Sony after taking over. A Spencer-style lie, honestly.
Producing AAA blockbusters like GT7 and DS2 isn't like enough proof?

Ok, you know? Prove this shit, you guys always like to say this, so I'm waiting for actual proof, with names and all.

Who said it was hand made by him only? He was head of Guerrilla games though wasn't he. Blaming him for certain Studio closures and making some GaaS games isn't just Hulst either though, right? Hulst wasn't even CEO when Japan studio closed, he was only CEO when Firewalk did.

I'm guessing it's from his connection to Concord. Secondarily, the way he's pimped out Horizon and overseen its decline.

He served as the head of Worldwide Studios for several years before being promoted to CEO.

Do people credit the head of Epic Games for Unreal Engine’s success and reputation as a cool and innovative tool? It doesn’t seem like that kind of recognition happens much here. Instead, does he face criticism for Epic’s controversial exclusivity deals? While Hulst isn’t a tech expert, he has made several questionable decisions. However, as the head GG he was decent at overseeing studios without micromanaging or interfering with other studios like he did with Japan studios.

Ok. We’re not speaking the same language here, so I’m not try to argue with you. This attitude creates exactly the type of fan that has driven Xbox to where it’s now. All is alright. Exclusives doesn’t matter. The management is GOAT. Look at the benefits. Fortunately there seems to be more critical Sony fans than yes men in GAF. And that list is pathetic.

Why do you believe he was micromanaging or interfering with Japan studios? So can we attribute Astrobot to him then? I'm guessing you're going to say no.

Xbox’s problems were not about cross gen games, it’s with having any high quality games at all

The games I listed are high quality, reviewed well, sold well. Because some of them also came to PS4 is irrelevant. They sold plenty of PS5s

If I didn't like PlayStation and didn't want it to be around for a long time, I would be fine with Hulst as leader.

The guy doesn't understand gaming, the pivot to GAAS has been shit, he bungled the Sony Bend situation badly, he didn't even understand the right side up to the product he worked on releasing. The game releases are like, riding off the momentum. You look at the early Mattrick years of Xbox, end of 360, and beginning of One, and it was pretty good, but once that ran out, there was nothing left. It doesn't take a great wonderful leader to tell Insomniac to make a game or whatever. They always make great games. Is it a good idea to have them work on endless capeshit? Well it makes sense now but will people care in five years? Does he understand that every Horizon announcement is met by groans amongst gamers? So it's about setting the company on the path to success and he doesn't understand that. He is also burning it for short term cash, the same mistake Spencer and Mattrick made for Microsoft. He sucks, Sony needs to get rid of him. The fact that they didn't exile him to Elba made me very concerned as a PlayStation fan.

You seem quick to give him credit for projects that were already in development long before he took over. Most of those games are sequels, and aside from *Astro Bot*, they were greenlit by others, not Hulst. *Death Stranding* isn’t even a Sony-owned IP anymore.

It really shows that he doesn't care for japan and that he pushes his horizon and gaas games more than other stuff.

Ok? And you think this is good?

Why do you believe he was micromanaging or interfering with Japan studios? So can we attribute Astrobot to him then? I'm guessing you're going to say no.

It was one of the few games he greenlit that actually turned out well, so credit where it’s due for supporting it. However, do I think Yoshida would have done the same? Absolutely—and he was ten times better as the head of Worldwide Studios.

I saw Hermen Hulst at a grocery store in Amsterdam yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.

He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”

I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.

The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.
