Alright FINALLY got the new Deluxe set up. Such a pain after having already done the enormous update. It took just as long this time, and my fiancee got ZombiU and she really wanted to play it, lol. The Network ID thing is so dumb. It has an option to use a network ID you already have, and then you try it and it says "this is already in use in another wii u." Is there even another place where you can HAVE an a nintendo network ID?!

Also, I'm not a big fan of the black. On the white model, I was surprised by how good the black levels looked on the display, and on this one they look HORRIBLE.

Oh wow, the Wii U version of BO2 is getting a lot of love from the reviewers. Where are the ones who claimed the single player had major issues? lol "smirk"

From the IGN Black OPS2 Wii U specific review:

Black Ops 2 occasionally drops in frame-rate no matter how you play it, but both regular and SecondScreen gameplay function well enough that I never felt at a disadvantage or that it took away from the fun, even when playing the super speedy online multiplayer.

So yeah, as I said, it's got framerate issues, but they mainly show themselves in single player, whereas multiplayer is smoother.

1 is definitely a yes, I've done it. Don't know anything about 2 though.

(1) Yes

(2) Correct, you cant use both at the same time.

Thanks a bunch! Looks like I'll not sell my current Wii's component cable and stick with it for Wii U. It can do 1080p with Wii's component cables right? I figure they're just generic components, the thing that limited them to 480p was the Wii hardware, not the cables themselves.

but nothing major like people in GAF were claiming. Nothing like going OMG THIS SUCKS. IT IS LIKE THE PS3 VERSION. Kind of thing. More reviews are out and they have yet to say anything bad about single player mode.

Whoot props to Amazon for coming up with a great Wii U app. Unlike the stinky 360 app that doesnt allow you to rent movies from within the app, this one lets you use both Prime instant videos, view your past purchases, AND rent movies directly from the Wii U. Streaming quality put Netflix's app to shame. Lovely lovely lovely.

Check out Toys"R"Us for a Wii game called FlingSmash. It's 25 bucks and comes with a black Wii Remote with Wiimotion inside. Until the end of today they are having a Buy 1 get 1 for 40% off on all Wii U and Wii games. You could get 2 black Wii remotes for less than 1 with this deal, which is what I did with 4 copies. 85 bucks for 4 Wii Remotes. The only difference between these ones and the new Wii U branded Wii remotes is that the sync button is ont he outside of the new ones as opposed to being on the inside of the battery slot.

Thought that deal didn't start till Black Friday, thanks for the heads up. Just picked up 2 copies of fling smash, NSMBU and ZombieU.

So Nintendo can forgive Amazon... when is amazon going to forgive Nintendo?

Good to hear.

The limitation on the 360 is imposed by Microsoft I believe. Similar to Apple's policy.. they allow "content viewers" on their devices, but not competing "stores" where you can directly buy content.

I don't think you can even use the browsers built into the devices to queue up or buy things.

Baconsammy said what he said either to point out how silly it was to ask if a French Wii U would have English support or he wondered if France would really do something like that. There have been French-only videogame translations, and Quebec has a crazy law that makes English games illegal if there is a French version. It's highly unlikely that would happen with a console, though.
Some games in France are french only sometimes. Same in Germany, Spain or Italy. Hardware always have multiple languages to choose. Nintendo games usually tend to have the classic EFIGS (English, French, Italian, German, Spanish) but not always (Layton, Pokemon, Inazuma eleven for instance have each their own unique translation depending on the country). Third parties is really on a case-by-case basis.
tl/dr. most games (not all) you purchase in France have english in it.

Totally didn't even occur to me that the renting side of Amazon Video would be there alongside the Prime membership stuff. Pretty damn cool.

Everything is great with the Amazon app until I actually view something. The audio is so low and muffled. When I watch a movie trailer it hits HD rather easily. When I bring up an episode of Community in HD it struggles to hit HD and even when it says it's HD, it's clearly not. And once again the audio is really low. I switched to my 360 to see what it's like there as a comparison and it required a 30 meg update, which took 10 seconds to download and restart the app (the update on Wii U took 15 minutes, plus 4 minutes to install...blahhhh fix this Nintendo). Audio is perfect on the 360, but the "HD" Amazon touts is sorta lackluster there too. Maybe it's just that season 1 of Community is shot in shitty HD. The movie trailers on Wii U look really clean.

The app lets you watch on either screen, and when it's on the TV the bottom screen serves as a search mechanism for all of Amazon Video or controls for the movie/TV show.

The second Wii U I bought for a friend has the Blue Flashing Light of Death(or whatever its going to be called.) I havent gotten to take a look at it, but from his texts he says there is a picture on the screen but not the TV. The power light is flashing blue and he can't sync his controller because it asks him to input symbols shown on the TV.

It is disappointing that I gave them a broken one, didn't expect this from Nintendo but it seems to be more common than it should be. Has anyone found a fix?

This overscan issue has me worried enough to consider cancelling my Australian pre-order.

I've got an older Bravia 40" TV with a native 1366x768 screen res and it sounds like I will most likely have the overscan issue. (none of the other myriad devices that I've had connected to this TV have exhibited overscan issues)

Additionally, I'll be forced to use component video because my AV receiver doesn't support sound over HDMI and be limited to stereo sound.

Along with all the other widespread reported issues all my hype and enthusiasm for the system has evaporated.

Can't you turn overscan off on your TV? There should be a 1:1 pixel mapping option, different vendors call it different things.

My 2008 32" Panasonic has it, and they just straight-up call it 'Overscan on/off'.

On both iOS and on 360 I've used the browser to rent movies or buy a Kindle book. The limitation appears to just be within the app. PS3's Amazon app allows you to rent within it.

Finally picked this bad boy up. I started the update BEFORE I looked up how to download it in the background, and now I'm stuck waiting. It's been over an hour and now it's only about 1/3 complete. What can I do!?

Edit: I know this has been asked before. I searched, but so many complaints about the update download make it nigh impossible to actually find anything. Sorry, everybody. Really, though, any help would be welcome.

Community Season 1 looked great on TV and iTunes and pretty good on Netflix if I recall...

They only said it has performance issues, which it does. No one said it was unplayable or anything. Your getting quite worked up over this in multiple threads it seems. Crappy frame rate here and there is not going to ruin the game and make it awful, but it's noticeable and ppl are pointing out the problems.

this amazon app has my mouth watering to test out a movie but I fear if its good I'll be getting PRIME again but it is cheaper than Hulu and Netflix if I think about it.

if I have all 3 once Nintendo TVii hits goodbye life who needs cable

anyone buy a wii u and regret the purchase? i have a basic, with nsmbu and zombiiu still sealed.

i wasn't even really interested in getting one at launch, i saw it at shoppers and bought it for some reason

i figure i can at least unload and get my money back at this point, with the shortage thats bound to happen before christmas and all

Amazon Instant Video is up to download or update.
Finally, a video service I use.

( don't use the other two because they need cc's. Tho with Netflix you can pay via itunes credit, you need a apple tv to be able to subscribe with iTunes credit. :/ I may just buy a Apple tv just to resubscribe o Netflix. (Lost acess to a credit card....I really miss Netflix.)

Pretty cool these are all coming so soon. Can't wait for the youtube one! Of course its last lol.

Just downloaded MSF with the rest of my eshop money. Probaly shouldn't since I have beaten it on 3DS but I want those harder version of levels! Too bad you have to beat the game to do it...which I assume is including the 5 bonus levels >_<

But its a fun game to replay. Really like the new artstyle.

Btw: If anyone is wondering, my WiiU video where I get it + impressions will be coming by the end of the month. Gotta have enough fime to edit it and been too busy playing WiiU. Already played 25 hours on it! I wish the AL was as advanced as the 3DS one...

Just Van Owen, but he was determined to hate it from the outset.

I had this same problem with the Wii U I picked up at Walmart last night, luckily they had another one in stock and was able to swap it out, that one is working fine.

TVII is useless without cable service.

TVii will be great even if someone only has the streaming services - it's a single interface to find all the movies/tv shows no matter which service is streaming it. But it will also be good for antenna TV as well - that's how I'm gonna use it, antenna + Hulu + Amazon (I don't use Netflix).

I'm definitely liking the Amazon app, SOO much better than the Hulu+ app. And I guess because I bought The Hunger Games on Blu-Ray from Amazon, I now own it in their streaming service?

I don't think you can use any of the social features without cable, but TVii is always going to be useful as an aggregator. Especially if they keep adding services, and especially if you don't have one of those little $100 set top boxes. Now that's all hanging on the ledge of the software working like expected. ETA: Or, you know, what people have said up thread.

Ah thanks.

I got some notice on iOS at amazon that content wasn't available from my device, through the browser.

Might have been a specific piece of content flagged by a publisher or something.. weird.

i know nobody cares, but just saying, returned my system today. while there saw another returned deluxe system in the store. i really wanted to know what was the other person's reason to return the system.

probably will stop posting in gaf, not that I'm any popular here :)

and pls don't insult me for this post.

Has anyone figured out what ports the Wii U is using btw?

We're using a USB lan adapter and Wii U Chat still can't connect through our router. Online games like Sonic All Stars also fail to join games.

This is a psychologically rich post about returning a videogame console.

It could also be that I dont use Safari, and the browser I do use on my iPad tells Amazon that it's coming from a normal PC.

Apologies, I thought you meant using it to watch cable TV. If it aggregates shows/movies from the various video apps, that's a good and useful thing. Time for Nintendo to add ESPN and HBO Go.

Check the Videos I Own tab in the app. Everything you've ever bought or rented shows up there.

Went to TRU today and saw a deluxe console or two for sale. Ran home and exchanged my basic for it. I *guess* I'm surprised? I dunno, thought it would be rare right now. Meh, anyway I got the one I wanted.

I love you man I just..... well didn't have the time to tell you

Why did you return your system?

Ah.. yes.. that's it.. I'm well aware you can use alternate browsers to get around services identifying you, which is why I mentioned "built in browsers."

I wasn't sure if IE for Xbox 360 did the same.

Just checked, iOS Safari via amazon.com doesn't let you purchase video.. but does let you purchase Kindle books, interesting.

My point being: It's nice of Nintendo not to impose such restrictions.. it's also particularly nice of Sony, who seems to not care as much that it actually competes with things they offer up.

I tried to email Nintendo saying I had broken my Gamepad on accident and was looking to have it replaced and curious what it would cost.

They replied:

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us. I'm sorry to hear about what happened to your Wii U GamePad, and I can certainly understand your interest in finding out what your options may be. While I would like to answer your questions regarding replacement cost, I need to let you know that due to a variety of factors I'm unable to provide this information by email. In this situation it would be best for us to speak with you directly. That way we can get all the details and work out the best solution.
