Silly question but it's worth a shot: is it possible to boot straight into the Gamepad from the first time you turn on the Wii U? Like maybe holding a specific button while booting or something (like the display settings reset option on PS3 for example).

I turned it on for the first time without hooking it up to a TV and the Gamepad asked to turn on the TV and the U and select TV settings or something (I'm currently living in this apartment temporarily for another 2 months and only have an SD TV and want to know before I buy an AV cable).

The answer is most likely "no" but no harm in asking.

Thanks guys!

I'm seriously considering trading my deluxe unit for a basic, it's used obviously but maybe someone has a used basic and they would like a deluxe. I wouldn't even charge any extra for it, it would be a literal swap. Reason? I prefer the white over black and memory wise I'll be getting an external drive anyway, so I see no real incentive for me personally to hang onto the deluxe, other than what I'm bringing up in my question: if I did that, would it be impossible for me to get my VC games over to it?

For me, I can't imagine NOT having the charging cradle...

Well when they open the servers for the updates, it's gonna be a bloodbath ..! Plz allow me to update first when I get my wiiu :p

Any US gamers here that played FIFA13 on WiiU? Just read a german review that says it's terrible in comparison to PS360 versions with slowdowns and framerate issues... Can anyone confirm this?

Stop It

Perfectly able to grasp the inherent value of the fishing game.
Well, no delivery tomorrow for me, in fact the tracking event earlier saying it was being processed for delivery today has been deleted from my order history on Amazon, which is a bit annoying! Still, it just means my original plan to take Friday and Monday off work is in tact so no major worries.

you don't need the tv to set it up

also sdtv will look bad on a hd gaming console

you should instead buy a led 15-20 inch 720p wide screen, they only cost about $100

Some other EU gaming websites might help but it was always been know that FIFA 13 is really FIFA 12.1 on Wii U so I'll wait for next year's version. Have not read anything on it. Let me check to Miiverse posts for it. BRB

edit: On Miiverse most post are about looking for online matches setting meet ups to play, posting about playing on Gamepad while watching a real live Football match on the TV. Small Community of about 500+ users. Some from Mexico, few americans. Some think it is a great game and love gamepad off TV play while others know it is a FIFA12 EA port.

I guess if you love FIFA it is okay. The Miverse needs Euro fans

You can buy them separately so fear not. Otherwise the nintendo premium network doesn't interest you at all! If no, go for the white

I won't be buying any retail games digitally, so the premium thing doesn't interest me at all. I'm only concerned about losing my VC games, but even with that, Nintendo may be making us rebuy those games just to have gamepad support anyway, so I'm not even sure that it matters.

My Wii U will be here tomorrow, just the bundled Nintendo Land for me for games though. The only game I had ordered was Assassins Creed III which was cancelled, I was holding out for some cheaper prices on everything else, I'll need to pick up at least 1 other game though. It's a choice of either ZombiU or NSMBU.

If its your first time setting it up. You need to have a TV. It configures the resolutions but more importantly there is a code on the TV screen that you have to enter on the Gamepad for the full Sync of the Gamepad to the console to take place.

Hope this helps!

Have you transferred your wiiware games to your deluxe?if yes I should suggest stay with your deluxe until we have some more solid info about wiu to wiiu transfers

I have. You're probably right too, but waiting on information from Nintendo about even the most elementary things can be such a fucking nightmare. Some of the info that they held back about the Wii U until the last week right up to launch day was inexcusable. So waiting to find something like that out may very well be a ways off and by then I probably wouldn't care anymore.

That, and if I'm doing this, I would really like to be able to ship the system to whomever I'm swapping with in the best possible condition so the less time that passes the better.

Thanks! How do I get past this screen?

It's probably trivial but I tried pressing random buttons and nothing happens.

I know it would look bad on an SDTV; I'll just wait until I go back home in a few months where I have my HDTV, but for now would like to update and maybe play some Mario U on the pad.

EDIT: ok so I missed the "sync" button on the back of the pad, but now it asks me to match the 4 symbols displayed on the TV (which I haven't hooked up). Random symbols lead to "could not connect to the Wii U". Any tips on how to overcome that?

Thanks again!

If you'll have someone to play with, NSMBU. If you'll be playing mostly by yourself, ZombiU.

Nightmare is the Least you could say.I have a wii full of wiiware/vc games and they are staying there. I think nintendo will fix this shit but as always with nintendo it will take some time. Keep your wiiu, it would be a same to lose your vc purchases.

Hm, i really wanted a FIFA game because I'm a great football fan but i don't own a 360 or PS3 and my last FIFA was World Cup 2002 on GCN. But i guess i'll wait for it to get a pricecut or wait for FIFA 14

The Wii U has now become my go-to for Amazon Instant, Hulu and Netflix. Prior to this, it was my Roku, but the UI for Netflix is reallyyyyyy nice.

Leaps and bounds better than the 360 too.
The Hulu UI is laggy and choppy as fuck, nowhere near as good as the PS3's. Haven't tried the others yet.

About the FIFA, I haven't bought a soccer game since the first pes of wii. I don't care if it is FIFA 12 named fifa13, but I care if it plays good even if It isn't 13 quality. I saw a trailer with the gamepad goods and they seemed cool. Should I buy it?

Amazon Instant Video app sucks from what I've tried. Froze my system too after freezing video. Hulu I haven't tried but Netflix works like a charm.

Did Amazon fix the sound issue with their Wii U app?

PS3 one is much better. The menus are quicker and sound is fuller. I wouldn't mind using the Wii U app if Amazon fixed the audio. It's not an issue if you just use stereo, but in 5.1 there is a huge difference. Amazon Video on Demand App on Wii U does not use the center channel for voices. Only the left/right speakers.

Netflix is fine though on Wii U.

If you are a fan you won't be missing much if you are not comparing it to 360/PS3, still looking at the Miiverse community and read nothing about slow framerates only complaints was that it was FIFA 12 but the gamepad features that are added to manage your line up seems to be enjoyable. But it seems like these are true Die Hard Fifa fans on there. 557 compared to 1712 on Madden13 I bet FIFA still becomes the top sports community on Miiverse when EU gets on.

I might get it now after reading some more posts about the game

I find it hilarious that people think they can just patch in a fix to eliminate or drastically diminish the load times in between screens. They're obviously there in the first place due to some system limitation and even if they could fix it, it'd most likely involve a complete overhaul of the OS.

nah, i don't know. sounds like a real problem with the coding in itself. with a giggle of ram they reeeaaally should be able to streamline that shit soon.

the updated version (2.0.0) smells likebeeing programmed in a superhurry to be ready at US launch. otherwise it would have been on the system anyways.
not that day 1 updates are rare, but this updates contains some REAL IMPORTENT stuff and i think they would have loved the shit to be right there in place without all the hassle.

therefore i say it was rushed like hell. nintendostyle. and i can be fixed over time. that fatass update seemd to be the total overhaul you talked about. got it all ready to be....patched more! huzzah!

just like the 3DS got way faster in booting up and all.

....btw....where are my folders?

I know Wii saves games can be transferable to Wii U; but has anyone tested it the other way around from Wii U to Wii for Wii saves?

there is no wiiu to wii. afaik

I really hope this is not the case and it can be improved otherwise that could get extremely annoying a few months from now.

I fully expect a fix in the code

moved my Wii SD card to Wii Mode on Wii U and copied my save files without using the transfer app. So yeah I bet I can do it backwards if I wanted to. Xenoblade has a new home.

Thank you, I missed your reply at first for some reason. I will buy an AV cable just for the initial setup to match the symbols like you said.

Cheers!

don't you have anyone with a wii nearby and borrow it?

or ask someone on the street. everyone has a wii nowadays. most people don't use then anymore anyway.

I microwave steaks.
I noticed there weren't any Wii U screen protector videos (well none that apply the thing) so when I got my hori ones I decided to do one! video here

My overall impressions are the thing is great, applied perfectly without any bubbles, and it feels as smooth as if there were no screen protector. Really recommend it! Plan on making some more wii U related videos later on tonight.

i'm going to ask this for the Nth time, hoping that someone will finally give me an answer >.<

what about the touchscreen sensitivity? do you feel any difference after applying the screen protector?

COD community 12,188
are they just becoming more vocal or did they start getting online?

I don't really know where to look to see how many people are playing online multiplayer
its seems to be 400/532 number when I hit public matches

I've applied Hori Screen protectors on my DSlite, dsi, dsixl, and Vita. Never did I ever have a problem with accuracy or responsiveness. I have not went in depth in trying out the gamepad's touch screen but my initial impressions (seen near the end of the video) felt like there was nothing on it at all (cue flanders gif). I would do a follow up but I don't expect any problems.

i won't be able to buy one for at least one week, and follow up will be really appreciated!

He talks about this in the video.

yeah i've just seen it but while i do trust his opinion i think this is the kind of things you notice after using it for a while, first test right after applying it doesn't really weight much =D
