From pain myself yesterday, and looking st yours, try removing secondary DNS (leave it blank) and check your Gateway is correct (not saying it isn't, just be sure).

Good luck, it had me for hours yesterday!

tried it just editing the connection but it didn't work.
- i've rebooted the wii u, got into system settings, deleted the connection
- created a new connection manually

no result

this is also a pain in the ass because my wi-fi password is a sentence of 49 characters with spaces and commas...

I've never paid more than £34.99 for a game this generation, even the big titles on launch day. Nintendo also have the dark art of never reducing their prices, I've been waiting for a bunch of 3DS games to go sub-£30 for ages with no avail.

If you buy online, most games are £38-ish, not far off what new ps3/360 titles are. And bear in mind a new console launch usually firms up prices which soften over the course of a generation. Ignore retail, and ignore digital prices because PSN/XBL are the same where publishers set prices.

Did anyone play Mario Galaxy 1 or 2 on this thing? How does it look?

I'm glad I kept my pre-order after uming and ahing over it for days. I know I've only had a few hours of hands-on time but already I feel this thing has the potential to be a LOT better than the Wii, which is exciting to me because I thought that console was pretty nifty. I stuck in Mario Galaxy 2 to test the Wii emulation and it definitely seems a little more crisp and bright than the original Wii component output. The only major downers right now are the slowness of the network and I've had a couple of hard freezes while playing NSMBU. These are hopefully minor kinks that will be ironed out in the near future.

From the very first post on this page.

First impressions are pretty good of this thing, for me. I was pleasently surprised by how little I was annoyed by the OS speed. After the US launch I actually considered skipping the UK launch because I'm pretty sensitive to sluggish, crappy OS waiting times, but very little about the Wii U OS caused me any frustration. It's kind of strange that the slowest application on the system is settings, but it's not like I intend on diving into my settings much anyway now I've got going. Miiverse etc were all perfectly fine, speed wise.

Infact, Miiverse in general is fantastic. Really fun to follow and see what people are up to and talking about. I've barely actually played any games yet but suspect Miiverse will come into it's own even more once you do start.

Also, the GamePad is fantastic. Nintendo seem to have a habit of making controllers that look bizare but end up being incredibly comfortable and functional. This thing is massive but personally that's a plus for me. There's something about the GamePad's size that speaks to the part of my brain that loves how far apart my hands are for keyboard and mouse, and while the GamePad isn't that wide, I definitely like the size vs something like a 360 or PS3 pad.

When adding to Wii U, have you tried changing the 31 at the end of your IP to different numbers within your IP's range? It took me a few attempts until I found one that worked.

Find the DNS settings for your ISP and use those in the setup instead of googles.

(We are at the 'throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks' phase now )

Weird. Does it connect when you turn off all the security on the router?

My front end of the console (wara wara) just has lots of system icons with Mii's running around. How do you get it to show human players and game icons?

honestly i wouldn't want to try that, also because it cannot be a permanent solution.

anyhow i tried again with my ISP DNS, and nothing.
if i want to follow Mistle advise and trying keep changing my IP address do i have every time to reboot the wii u or can i just change the configuration and try again?

Mine didn't yesterday, it was totally fucked. It's OK now though but I just followe the guide to the dot and it worked for me. So weird. The annoying thing is I hooked up my PS3 to the router last night (new house, new router, just unpacked) and it connected first time, just like my iOS devices, Kindle etc.

It wouldn't be permanent of course but you can at least check if the WiiU will connect at all.

Got mine yesterday and I really like the design.

Nintendo is right when they say you have ti try it to understand it fully. ZombiU, NintendoLand all make great use of the GamePad. The OS is much improved since the Wii and I can imagine using this daily if some more interesting apps become available. I like how you can switch between the Wii Remote and GamePad for controlling the OS. Have to dive into Miiverse further but it looks fun so far.

The GamePad is very accurate with motion control. You can really feel that it is a huge improvement over the Wii Remote Plus. I had no trouble with any of the motion controlled segments in games.

Played with some friends. Nintendo Land will be a huge hit! It really does function like Wii Sports and will spread the word quickly.

Try it, for your sanity alone!

new approach:

12 meters ethernet cable, connected to my macbook pro
my macbook pro creates a new wireless network without password acting as a bridge,

i download the console update, and after that i'll try and see if the new os version is kind enough to speak directly with my router

Do old DSi/33DS/Wii eShop cards work on Wii U's eShop?

points cards only work with dsi shop and wii. everything 3DS or Wiiu related has to be in money cards.

No, it is currently unavailable in Germany (or Europe) it seems.

you mean the game? it's very available in germany for me! :p

whateever happen to that NNID thread? i can't find it anymore....and i suck with the gaf mobile search.

Well after some trouble connecting my wii u to the internet and downloading the update, finally getting around and discovering every detail and aspect of the console.

got to say that the browsing on this is amazing, and watching videos on the big screen while searching for the next video or just surfing is nice.

Posting from the browser btw :)

Is it normal that my Wii U sounds like a jet engine when there's disc in there?

I've got my Premium stood upright on the stands. Not sure if I should try it flat.

Friend, I think you've made a mistake. The freezing appears to be an issue with Nintendoland, which just does not appeal to me at all - it's no Wii Sports, so I haven't encountered the issue at all.
Stories of 'slow OS' are overhyped. Yes it could be a bit quicker, but it is definitely not bad like some people have been saying.
Gaming on it is fantastic on what I've played so far and the OS features like miiverse are definite killer apps.

After all the talk of freezing and slow menus and such I decided to return my Wii Deluxe unopened. Been burned too many times now with launch consoles (Xbox 360, 3DS) and to be honest there's not too much on it right now that made me have to have it.

The best part was the dude at Gamestop when I returned it. I always took the Gamestop employee stories here on GAF with a large grain of salt, but I actually encountered one of the crazy ones out in the wild.

He asked why I was returning it and I said that I had heard of too many problems with it. He looked at me with a completely serious face and said "It's the best console I own." I asked "But isn't it really slow, like loading and menus and stuff?" and he proceeded to tell me that Nintendo was releasing a 320GB hard drive next week that was going to speed the system up. When I politely expressed surprise that I hadn't heard or read anything about something like that he told me that they (Gamestop) had been informed about it ahead of time.

It was a total WTF moment, and if I hadn't heard it with my own ears I would have called complete bullshit on someone telling me this story.

I thanked him for the info and got the fuck out post-haste.

edit: holy shit I just bothered to check and he's not insane. Time for me to eat crow. Although he told me it was $30 and the one on their site is $80. Will it actually speed the system up or is it justused for more storage?

cw_sasuke

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
I have a question, can the Wii AC adaptor be used for the WiiU console ?

i know the signal from the router is not a problem, it's extremely close and when the wii u search for wi-fi it has the max amount of signal

I had a similar problem, after googling it the solution that worked for me is adding 10 to the last number of your ip address when you input it on your wiiu. I'll try and find the link to the tutorial I used for you in a bit..

I got the game icons and real Mii's on my Wii menu now. The messages that pop up, are they directly from the community section? I can't see to post directly from the home screen.

You can click on every Mii and you'll see what message that person has posted to the community.

Does anyone have any tips for being TOTALLY unable to fucking update this thing?

It finds my wi-fi fine, it connects to the internet fine, but when I try to update it throws upo an error message on "checking for update..." or sometimes "downloading the update..."

It's been like 20 different error messages. Googling them has yielded no real answer.

Starting to be really pissed off. How Nintendo can make this so bad when updates have been standard on consoles for years is boggling my mind.

Try this dude:

Ok so far heres what works, entering in everything manually.

1. Go into connection types, Hit "Manual Configuration"

2. Input your SSID

3. Input the correct security type, this is key.

4. Put your password in properly

5. For ip address "Do not auto obtain".

6. open up cmd in your computer, type in ipconfig

7. Now input that ip address but add 10 to the last number so "192.168.0.1" will be entered as "192.168.0.11"

8. Enter the rest of your info inside such as subnet mask and default gateway exactly as you see it in your ipconfig.

9. Now hit next, hit configure now for your DNS. When asked about DNS hit "Dont auto obtain".

10. For the first server put in 8.8.8.8

11. For the second server put in 8.8.4.4

12. Hit Next, when asked about a proxy hit no proxy

13. Leave mtu as the default

14. it should work, if not check the ip and that it is the internet ip + 10. Good luck
