so, what games are people playing and looking forward to? i sort of went into this blind, so i don't even know which games i should be excited for haha. i have a ps3 for all of my multiplatform games, so i am just looking at exclusives. so far, i have nsmbu and nintendoland. is zombiu the only other real exclusive great game of launch? i don't really play horror games so i guess i will continue to wait.

I'd say that zombiU is the real standout exclusive. Maybe scribblenauts. I'm not really into horror games, but I just can't resist, and it'll be a nice change of atmosphere from the usual Nintendo candy
In the days of nearly 100% mortgages, and with lower prices in the US maybe. But in the UK houses are expensive and since the credit collapse you often need a 40% deposit
I prefer Tekken out of all of those just because the costumes amuse me. I'm not that great at fighters either.
Only update installs doesn't let you play, update downloads can be done in the background while playing.
I'm pretty shocked just how little I'm using my TV for the Wii U so far. I'm a big handheld gamer so I knew I'd probably play a lot on the gamepad, but I haven't even turned on my TV since the day I received it. I know that'll change once more games that require the TV are released, but so far 95% of my gaming time on it is handheld. I thought it was weird at first, but having all the menus accessible on the gamepad was a great idea.
So you just have to be in the queue for the free games? Not that I'd bother. Knowing my luck I'll be the 101st person.
And I can't even get my mother's Christmas present at the same time. Gee thanks Nintendo(!)

Haven't tried out fight lab. I've been playing it quite a bit. It's fun with CPUs too and there's also Tekken Ball which is great if you enjoyed it in Tekken 3. I'd probably give it a rent first and see if it's truly a game you would enjoy buying.

Because its the only system that zooms into the screen? My PS3 and XBox 360 don't. Its a WiiU problem only and it needs to be fixed.

I think I am going to end up with 90% of the launch games by the end of December at this point.

I'm planning on using the Wii U with my computer monitor, but since it doesn't do optical output, I have to find another way to get the audio from the hdmi output.
Does anybody know a good solution to this? The only solution I've come up with is to buy a cheap receiver and use the headphone output from it (the cheapest I found was $150). Is the quality of headphone output from receivers decent? What other solutions are there?

Fight Lab is short and will only actually teach you anything if you're new to fighting games. I'm not sure I'd recommend the game for purely solo play. There's ghost battles but they get boring fast. The online play is where TTT2 really shines.
I've already bought nmsbu, ac3, ng3, blopsII, nanoassault, and zombiu. Plus i have nintendoland. Too many games!! I wanted batman as well, but figured i'd wait for a deal. This all better last me until pikmin or mhtriu hits >_<
Ng3 is great btw. no goty contender, but a lot of fun

Well, Miiverse is perfect for this kind of thing, since you're asking your questions to people who actually played the game. Not people trash talking based on reviews or hate.
I actually asked about NG3 framerate issues on the Miiverse before buying it, since I was kinda upset about if those were frequent or not.
Many people told me it was fine and the experience was great, that the framerate drops were scarce.
They were right, I bought it and I'm enjoying it a lot. Miiverse ftw! ^^

Gaf, I got my Wii U on Black Friday.... Best Buy..... At 1:30am.... While there were thousands of customers who checked out before me.... And I saw maybe 30 boxes for each model... This usually never happens.

Please remove your rose tinted Nintendo glasses for second before spouting childish nonsense. There are plenty of legitimate reasons to be down on the Wii U in it's current form. From the slow as shit OS, the poorly optimized ports, the dissapointing performance capabilities of the hardware, the random hard locks to the fact that your purchases are tied to your system instead of a profile. There's plenty of reasons for people to hold a negative view.
That said. I can't wait for mine to arrive.
At the beginning of the week I was kinda down and contemplated cancelling my pre-order. I was looking at the whole ram issue, OS problems, Account issues etc but this thread has been great for me. I know there are some issues but I'm looking forward to getting the console next week!! It aint perfect but its nintendo.
Well I never played the first release but I'm really enjoying it! A lot of it is just a mindless hack and slash gore-fest, but that's really all I wanted so I'm satisfied. On a technical level, there is some slow down, but it's not game breaking, and you can minimize it once you figure out what enemies cause it

I'm enjoying it, but could have easily waited a year too. There are real issues with the console, but many that Nintendo can fix if they care to. I also think this is just a shitty and lazy launch effort from Nintendo. People don't really know it's out or what the console is about. NSMBU is a fun game and all, but as the premiere launch title, it recently had a wii and 3ds version released. It's hardly a must see Mario 64 experience.
Both MS and Sony will beat the shit out of them in marketing when they launch their consoles. MS had Halo 4 on Mountain Dew products, what are they going to spend to hype a new console? Nintendo has a slim window to sell people on this before the MS/Sony hype machines start rolling.

I agree with Danielsan that there are plenty of reasons to be wary of picking one up on day one. It seems that Wii U is suffering from launch day problems moreso than any nintendo console in the past. Depending on what you prioritize though, it's not necessarily a dealbreaker. The OS speed and patching are annoying but after the first day, none of that felt like nearly as big of an issue. Miiverse is the system's killer app for me.

I laughed at your post because you go onto admit you aren't yet a Wii U owner, which was what the post you were responding to was trying to say (albeit crudely, with the fanboy accusation).
If you're on GAF or some form of game journalism, all the Wii U's flaws are serious business. But if you own a Wii U, you might not even encounter these problems. The only one I've seen is the slow OS, and it is what it is, not a deal breaker if you're patient. All consoles have load times and startup screens. Faster would be nicer, but...

I'm no NG purist, though I played NG 1-2-3 on NES and Gaiden Black - Sigma 2 and the NG3 Demo on PS3. Though I'm not the kind of guy who knows X badass combo by heart, but I enjoy the series.
If the OG NG3 (PS360) demo (and some videos I saw) reflects the complete product, well, Razor Edge is nowhere near the QTE broken mess NG3 was. The closest game I can relate the controls to are those of Sigma 2.
Graphics? looking good if you ask me, though its 720p with no AA, I don't give a damn, still looks good to me. All that ninja killing extravaganza feels good at 60fps.
Playing on the Gamepad while laying on the bed feel great, especially if I compare it with my Sigma experience on the Vita which is 30fps, well, the game itself is good but at this point I prefer playing it on PS3.

Sainsburys has taken my money and is now awaiting despatch, a bit early taking the money me thinks. Should be here hopefully for release day, i remember when my PS3 shipped it was processed several days before but not a week early. Oh well lets see when it gets here, hope my games get shipped soon. The GF works there so I got a nice 20% discount (including the 10% offercode) so the pro only cost me £240 in the end. Any other UK Gaf got any notifications yet?
