I still wish Darksiders 1 had been brought over as well. Sorry, but I'm not jumping into the middle of the story. A port would've been cheap for the company to produce, and I suspect it would've brought in a whole new audience of folks wanting to experience it from the beginning. Starting with part 2 makes no sense to me, and the OCD part of my mind would be bothered by this, even if I were to watch a YouTube plot summary.

This isn't the middle of the story, though. It takes place in parallel to the first game. They take place at the same time; I actually think most (all? haven't beat it) of DS2 actually takes place before DS1 starts. If you youtubed the story, you'd even give yourself some spoilers :)

DS1 starts off War was framed and went away for awhile. DS2 stars his brother Death and takes place during the period War is gone. Basically before title screen in DS1. No issue if story is all you're worried about!

(It's a better game, too).

I feel kinda out of place here. When judging a launch window, I ask myself, "Am I enjoying these games?" and not particularly "How am I liking this OS?"

This time, the answer thus far is, "Why, yes, yes I am, quite much. Thanks for asking!"

Generally I like to explore the dusty corners of a system too. What. Does the options menu let me change? When you have a wide ranging OS now, that can take some time. And if it gets in the way of playing games, I can understand that being frustrating

In many regards it's not terrible, but it's also not remotely good. Installs that take 20-30 minutes (infinitely longer if the game is larger than 2 gig), horrible download speeeds from Nintendo servers, a joke of an account system, a slew of ports that are worse than versions on 7 year old consoles, and 2 games from Nintendo that don't really do anything to show off the supposed power of the console. I can't blame anyone that's let down by what's being offered straight out of the box. Outside of Miiverse, there's not much to cheer about. They can't even get demos on the store. If the next Xbox and PS come out this deficient in so many ways, they better get ripped to shreds. People tend to rip Nintendo less simply because we've learned to have incredibly low expectations (hardware-wise). If Microsoft's next release is like this, the noise will be deafening.

On the upside, it's not like things can get worse. I expect a performance patch for the general OS. Opening settings etc shouldnt take this stupidly long to occur. But sooner than that I expect a patch to fix the netcode that's causing the entire Wii U to die when communications with Miiverse go wrong. That should never happen, and I wonder how many people will be getting their Wii U's "fixed" because they think it's the hardware messing up. What will never be fixed (imo) are the slow installs, the lack of achievements, the bad ports, and the inept account system. All reasons why people like me only buy Nintendo consoles for Nintendo-developed games. Not an insult, just a fact of life.

Nintendo fans can lament the criticisms being lobbed at the Wii U/Nintendo(part of being a Nintendo fan), but it's all fair imo.

Sounds like the PS3.

So for real, is the THQ financial situation the main reason people havent picked up Darksiders II for Wii U?

With it largely being considered the definitive version and considering it's early reveal, press, hype for the console... it seems to have just been completely ignored. I'm wondering if it's fall from spotlight because most people are just writing off the pub now? strange.

Or it's another sequel that available on other platforms already.

Why would I jump into into something like darksiders for the first time with the sequel when the games can be played cheaper on other platforms.

How are people finding Wii mode? On the giant bomb quick look, it seemed to take ages to boot up so I was thinking to just keep my Wii lying around - probably starts up quicker plus the wiiU can still be downloading something or someone can be playing on it while I play on Wii.

But I'm assuming you can't easily use wiimotes on two machines? So that'd add to the cost as I was going to reuse my wii's wiimotes for the wiiU.

No issues with a hacked Wii doing the transfer right?

it's slow to start up, but runs fine for me. only thing is... it doesn't seem to be much slower than anything else on the wii u when you launch it.

the worst start up is when someone tries to call you using the video chat feature. you have to wait 1 minute for whatever software you're using to close, another minute for the video chat software to open, then 15-30 seconds to connect. by that time hopefully the person is still waiting for your to answer.

a friend of mine (and fellow neogaf user) were playing phone tag. i called him, got sick of waiting and quit the software. he called me, got sick of waiting and then just turned off his system. this step happened 3x.

tl;dr, the wii mode, or any feature of the wii u is neat.. but slow to start/exit.

anyway,

i left my wii hooked up for the purpose of having a gamecube to play classics like Killer7.

Make sure you sign up for Club Nintendo, don't wanna let all those points go to waste.

Don't worry, I am. Only 30 coins from Platinum.

So, Wii U is out in less than 2 weeks or so (Japan) and I'm planning on getting NSMBU, Nintendo Land, Zombi U and one of either ACIII or Batman.

Does anyone have either of them who can give me impressions of which is the better port?

FYI, Japan has less games announced for Japan on the Wii U on Nintendo's site than there were launch games for the US. Th list includes stuff like 'Smash Bros.' and 'Monolith Soft Project'.

I haven't played my copy of AC3, but I'm almost positive it's a basic clone of the other versions. Impressions of Batman seem to be mixed. If framerate is important to you, Batman may give you trouble. I'd like for someone that has spent a good amount of time with Batman to give some info regarding the problems of the port. I'd like to pick it up if it isn't too bad.

Yep, using the official one and can't figure out why it's slower than WiFi. It didn't dawn on me that it was slower until I realized I couldn't get a HD stream from the Amazon app.

Lame, I guess I can cross that off my wishlist then. Wanted a stable connection but if it's going to be slower might as well forget it.

Unless you live in a highly congested area with a lot of interference, wifi should be more than enough for gaming with any decent router.

I reaaaally can't see anything about the account system that would make it "mediocre", GAF can complain about 187655 issues that the Wii U currently has but that "can't download my games from another system" is a real no-issue to me.

This is my first console launch since being part of the GAF family and it's amazing how everyone acts, people who don't even own one yet are hating and judging it like if the system had 3 years in the market. If it wasn't because I'm loving the shhh out of my system (notable considering I just own NintendoLand currently), I would think 3-4 times about buying a system so broke, outdated, flawed, prehistorically dated and boring, hype and anti-hype is like 1000000x the reality, it's like every feature and issue has to be turned into a soap opera. :lol

Oops my system has a problem. That's ok, I'll just return it to the store and get another one. Better remove my account first. What's that? You'll delete it and I can never use my desired username again? And my eshop purchases are all gone? Shit.

Hmm, NSMBU was ok, but this post launch drought is annoying. I'll sell my WiiU on Craigslist and buy one later in the year when zelda comes out. Oh shit all my stuff is gone forevar.

Hi Frank. What's that, you got a WiiU - cool, me too. You want to come round and play some BLOPSII? You can log into my WiiU and bring all your XP along. What's that? You ant because your account is locked to your system? Fuck.

in scenario number one everything will be recovered as long as you send the system to ninty HQ

See? that's what I was talking about.

Example 1: If my system really breaks I can always send it to NoA and keep my account info intact. If it's any other kind of small issue there's nothing that confirms Nintendo will not release a system-to-system transfer tool like the 3DS one. Only way you could get screwed is if someone stole your system.

Example 2: Easy one, I'll always keep my system around, not interested in flipping systems.

Example 3: If people find this too big of a problem, devs could always find a way to get over this using a separate account system, like Uplay and Origin.

the important thing about my post is that I was talking about myself, not for everyone.

a zelda cameo would do wonders. the game is essentially zelda

Example one is fine for the US where it seems shops don't like to take returns, but in Europe I'd expect to return a faulty machine to the store and get another one.

Your last point is fair enough :)

Nintendo Land is a lock. I've been enjoying the single player games.

NSMBU if you can handle its strong similarity to its predecessor (I was fine with that except the music... whoever was in charge of that should be ashamed)

ZombiU if you're cool with FPS (I've always been turned off by first-person perspectives since something about them makes me motion sick, which is a shame since it keeps me from playing a lot of great games)

ACIII is the better choice, I think. If you're going to support WB with your cash, you're better served getting Scribblenauts or Injustice when it comes out.

In situation #1... given the season and the very unlikely scenario of finding a replacement deluxe you can simply exchange with, I kinda see this as a non-issue until after the holiday season. Also, don't the majority of stores charge re-stocking fees for opened electronics and ask you to refer to the manufacturer for warranty assistance to get a free replacement anyways since salesmen are not qualified/trained to assess malfunctions?

And not to take away the validity of situation #2 being possible, but the system's been out for a WEEK, isn't it a tad bit premature to call it out for having a "post-launch drought"? If nothing else in the 20+ launch titles interest you and aren't willing to hold onto it, perhaps a re-evaluation of an impulse purchasing problem is in order.

Truthfully, I expect these issues to go away only after the Deluxe promo is started. Part of how that works is, in December, you register your NNID along with a console identifier (likely the serial #), Nintendo confirms that NNID is in use by the matching console and you retroactively get credits for anything you bought prior to the start of the promotion. If NNIDs are getting swapped around to different units, that makes something simple as claiming your promo bonus into a REALLY messy ordeal for everyone involved.

After that, though? Yeah, the NNID will be permitted to be used on other systems, just a matter of when.

I wanted it based off of enjoying the original Darksiders, but I'm hearing that Darksiders II is tedious and repetitive and somewhat glitchy.

So I may end up getting Ninja Gaiden III: Razor's Edge instead.

Was planning to buy it on the Wii U, but I can buy the whole game + Season Pass for €22 on the pc, while it's €60 for Wii U.

I'm surprised by how roomy those bullet train seats are... I'd do something like that for a long journey, I often have my laptop plugged in after all, but this is the shitty seating (in non first class) in the UK:

Virgin-train-seat-blocked-2.JPG

The fold down tables can sometimes actually dig into you. In a seat like that my laptop's lid won't go back far enough for me to have a good view... I have to sort of balance the laptop on the hinge and claw away at the keyboard like a T-Rex

Had the game for a day now and it's fun as hell. Played a ton of Sonic even though we couldn't finish the Boost Challenges. Like a lot of people here, I've spent way too much time with Miiverse. Looking at pictures and answering people's questions has been awesome. I hope this idea has longevity and will be this good after several months.

Overall, totally happy with the system. I'd say add me as a friend, but I don't know which name I'm supposed to give. Heh, heh.

In Europe you can't just return for no reason if you buy from a store - so no restocking fee stuff happens. But we get a 1 year warranty as standard, and if there is a defect we'd expect the store to handle the situation with Nintendo and just get a new box from the shop. Of course in this situation we are forced to go direct to Nintendo which will slow things down.

The drought point wasn't for now, just a hypothetical point for the new year.

Ohhhhh its getting close, just had the call from game, they are doing bundles of the premium bundle along with a game of your choice and a pack for the game pad cloth etc etc for £349. Not much of a saving.

OH MY GOD

I only fucking won £200 on a scratchcard whilst in town.

Walked right into GAME. Had two zombiU packs left. Preordered one, can pick it up at midnight

I have some good luck sometimes, fuck me

How many scratchcards have you bought over the years? Also: never buy another scratchcard, let that be your lucky last.

Not many at all, actually. This was only brought to reach a £5 minimum card spend in the convinience store I was in!

Big queue behind me. Was 90p short. Easy option, gained me £199 profit.

Really enjoying Club Nintendo, I had no idea they had a points program like this. I like the ease of use and setup of it.
Club Nintendo has been great in NA till 2011 in terms of platinum rewards, we get buttons and now shitty posters. What happened? Japan and Europe still get great platinum rewards and we continue get bent over with crap.

Also the stuff you can redeem for is almost all trash, i have 1110 points just sitting in my account waiting to be spent.. I mean you can only buy so many reversible fucking pouches and 3DS cases.

I am enjoying AC3, I play one day the story, (only 15% after 1 week!) and the other day the multiplayer. It has legs and it seems to be a port at least on par with the other consoles. Framerate did dip once in a story mission, but I haven't noticed it since.

That's awesome mate. Conglaturation.

I just got a call from some kid at my local Game confirming my attendance for the midnight launch on Thursday. Said they'll be opening about half eleven to minimize queueing, but no Wii Us will be sold before midnight.

He tried to gete to commit to an accessory pack and two years extended warranty. I laughed.

Still, roll on Thursday!!!

Europe doesn't even have platinum rewards. We also don't get any points for 3ds eshop purchases and are unable to use our points for games on Club Nintendo. The NA site is actually far superior to ours.

I love my Wii U but Nintendo needs to fix this shit. I don't want to have to jump through hoops to get my software on a new Wii U when/if the time comes.

Could of swore UK got platinum rewards and you guys have MUCH better reward stuff.

Thanks, looks like it's ACIII for me. First one since the first one. As for WB, Terrell, I would get Scribblenauts, but it's not being announced for Japan (DS one was). I post asking everytime I see Jackson about, probably doing his head in.

Does Nintendo Land appear on your products list if you registered the Deluxe Wii-U?

You don't need to register either of them. Just linking your Wii U to your account does it for both. I got the survey for the Wii U about 5 hours after linking. It took a full week for the survey for Nintendoland to finally show up today.

I really wish Nintendo would allow us to install disc-based games to the HDD. I'd love to have all the games right there as soon as I turn the system on.

If they did it like Live, you would still be required to have the game disc in the drive to play it off the hdd. Otherwise you could install rented or borrowed games.

The system is probably the best justification for having a digital library though. I'd consider buying all of my first party WiiU games digitally if they fix the profile being tied to hardware.

l

It's a big deal to me because every other competent online service ties purchases to an account not hardware.

I don't want to have to beg over the phone or send anything in to nintendo just to manage my purchases. It's a harsh anti consumer stance on DRM, one that even ''evil'' companies like Apple, Sony, or MS don't take.

I can live with a slow OS or crappy launch ports. I just won't put my money into an online shop that keeps me tied to hardware. Hopefully they change it, but I'll only buy retail until then.

OK, that explains why there's this weird twisted idea that NoE's Club Nintendo is so good. People see some images and assume they are rewards. Yes, we sometimes have good one of things like the Mario Kart 7 trophies but those cost points and often those good prizes come out after everyone's points have expired or sell out faster than you can say "Club Nintendo being good is a myth". We don't get a bonus reward for saving up a certain number of points by the end of the year.

Anecdotal evidence here, but the GAME I went into earlier only had two Zombi U packs left available to preorder, one of which now has my name on it.

They had all but one of their premiums snapped up already, and only two Basics left. 9 people, now 10, confirmed coming to their midnight opening. And this isn't a big store either.

Anyway. The Zombi U pack is a brilliant deal for £349.99. Considering that the standard premium is £309.99 in store, paying an extra £40 for Zombi U AND a pro controller is great. Basically getting either the game or controller free, depending on which way you see it.
